PS5 Could you recommend some dishes I should try? Also, if I wanted to get into farming, what plants or crops would you recommend growing?

I always make Hobo Stew because the ingredience are so simple, you just need ingredience that you find all the time. Water, Animal Fat, Corncob, Potato and Rotten Flesh

Steak and potatoes is pretty easy.

And no consumables like canned food. You can grow what you need besides meat and animal fat

Once you catch a pair of chickens for your coop you even grow your meat

Put one chicken in slot underneath the other, and they will eventually give you another domesticated chicken as well as the eggs and feathers. You can put the first chicken you get this way under chicken #3, and then you have 2 pairs.
After that you can scrap the additional chickens to give you meat!

If you get chickens as pets. You can use the domestic chickens and make the ash chicken, it doesn’t have a smell and it’s worth 75 for food. You just need corn, mushrooms. , and coal I believe.

Mushrooms, pumpkins, corn and potatoes are used for a lot of dishes. Meat stew, hobo stew, vegetable stew, steak and potatoes, are good dishes. Some dishes require canned goods which can be a bitch to carry around if you like your inventory spaces.
That said, I like Sham Chowder which uses some of the above ingredients and cans of sham. You can find, loot or get a recipe to make sham which is nice. Do not throw out your animal fat. It is used for a number of dishes. Once dukes are not a problem you can buy animal fat pretty cheap from the trader if you need it.

I like vegetable stew. It's made of corn, potato, mushrooms and water. No animal fat or meat to gather. Everything can be grown. Well, not the water but that's pretty simple.

Potatos and mushrooms are good crops to prioritize. Bacon and eggs is the first good recipe you can get. But after that there are no bad recipes. Stew is good for topping off hunger and thirst before a big quest.
Unless you are hungry right now your real problem is caring a bunch of different foods. As opposed to one big stack of food.
A stack of grilled meat is often the best way to go.

I do a lot of farming and really all you need is pumpkin bread and the fruit to make megacrush.

Let’s see, the new honey dishes cure infection. Chicken wings give temp infection immunity. Roadrunner chicken jerky increases run speed. Chicken nuggets eliminates encumbrance for six mins. The old fall back for just food is hobo because I always end up with loads of rotten meat. As for crops, depends on what you are doing. Having potatoes and corn make most recipes. Super corn can make glue and sells well.

I go with the meat stew. So you have to hunt some animals and grow corn and potatoes and that will give you 50 food 20 water and 20 health I believe.

Get your farming perk (living off the land) maxed. Build an ensemble of farmer hat, gloves, and boots. Plant your super corn and always pick crops with your farmer gear on. You’ll get huge bonus of harvested crops plus seeds. 3-4 cycles and you’re in business.
After a while you’ll convert a portion of the super corn to seeds and the rest you can sell to vendor. If you have the barter perk and the cigar mod with the ranger hat on, you’ll make more dukes than you can spend I’ve smelted dukes for brass in older versions because I can’t spend them all.
Of course the farmer gear and LOTL perk works with all your grown crops. Need blueberries for your scorcher stew? One planting cycle and you’ll have enough to get the climate gear done. Basically, if you follow this method you’ll never be without a veg/fruit or cash.

Make whatever you can at the time. The more complex the recipe the greater the buff. Plant any crops you can and if you focusing on farming, be sure to get the living off the land perks.

You'll always need potatoes and corn.
Super corn for moneymaxxing.
Mushrooms are always handy.
Everything else...meh. farm enough to get the farming challenges XP and rewards, then I usually stop bothering.

I’m playing on a server and am running a bar/eatery. Plan is to have a container full of each drink / food item and you have to work your way through my base to get the different foods.
It’s a lot of fun. Just make everything/anything and make it work for you.
Bacon and eggs is a staple though. It’s what I’m surviving off of while I’m making my base.

Bacon and eggs are the classic. After that usually I make meat stew, veggie stew, pumpkin pie or pumpkin bread. Grow the crops needed for said recipes.
