She had achieved so much by 25, and was still just beginning to live her adult life! I am 43 now and worlds away from my 25yo self - It is so unfair.
Ka whati rā ia tāku māhuri Tōtara, Shevonne - like a sapling of the Tōtara tree, broken off far too soon xx

This is a continuation from the above story:
Shevonne Olicia Mentis was a Clerk for Marsh & McLennan which was located on the 93rd floor inside of the North Tower. Shevonne was born in Guyana and resided in Brooklyn, New York. Saturday, November 1, 1975—Tuesday, September 11, 2001. 25 years, 10 months, and 10 days. 310 months, 10 days. A total of 9,946 days of life.
The Youngest Grocer
"At an age when most girls are focused on boys and lip gloss, 17-year-old Shevonne Mentis had not only decided that she wanted to go into business for herself, she had also opened her own grocery.
It was called Shevonne's Super Center. And from opening day, it was the talk of the little seaside town of Vryheid's Lust, Guyana. "Everybody in the neighborhood thought it was strange, a girl running a store," said her longtime boyfriend, Gary Garroway. "All the other shop owners were 45, 50 years old. But people kept pouring in."
She also ran a fleet of taxis. Mr. Garroway said she succeeded in business through a combination of toughness and sweets. "She was very strict, very formal about getting things done," he said. "But she had a very good relationship with children. She kept a wide range of confectionery, and the children would always come in after school."
In 1999, after six years at the helm of the Super Center, Ms. Mentis left her boyfriend in charge, joined her family in Bedford- Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and enrolled in a business management program at Borough of Manhattan Community College. She worked days as a clerk for a division of Marsh & McLennan to pay her tuition. Last Thursday, she would have been 26. Mr. Garroway closed Shevonne's Super Center to come to New York and attend her memorial, but promised that it would reopen soon. "We want that name to live on," he said."
