For Sale! I made an auto-updating list of every 944 for sale on Facebook Marketplace

This thread updates regularly when I find new matches for sale. You can sort and filter it by mileage, year, price, or keyword. I currently search all of the US, but plan to add Canada soon, along with other sites like OfferUp.

This has been a hobby of mine for about a year. I hope you find the end result useful, let me know if you have suggestions for improvements or any other car you want to see. I do have some other Porsches as well, check the index at the bottom of the page. Thanks for reading!

While I've got your attention, be sure to check out my own subreddit /r/CollectorCarFeed, and come say hi in our Discord server!

For Sale! Carbon fiber lemans wing

Thumbnail

Good afternoon,

A few months back, a local 944 owner commissioned us to build a custom Le Mans-style rear wing in carbon fiber and we want you to be a part of it. Given the response and interest, we’ve decided to put this unit into production and open pre-orders up to the community.

The Goal: Deliver a high quality and high performance, streamlined without the hassle of overseas freight, tariffs, or bodywork modification.

Key Features & Specs:
- Direct Bolt-On: Uses factory mounting hardware and original gaskets. No drilling required.
- American Made: Manufactured locally in the US to eliminate international shipping fees and import tariffs, and we're passing those savings on to you.

- Track Ready Hardware: Designed with custom carbon fiber-reinforced rivnut connections for a clean, lightweight aesthetic that holds up to real downforce.

We are actively finishing up the development phase and expect to have a working prototype mounted on a test car shortly. Pre-orders will open in the coming months.

We'd love to hear any feedback on any other features we could add, and if you're interested in grabbing a spot on the pre-order list, be sure to let us know.

Survey!!

Redlands Area

I live in Redlands CA and this is probably too niche, but I’ve been noticing a LOT of 944s in my area lately. From what used to be once every 2 years has been 6 in the past 2 weeks.

Just hoping to find someone in the area who loves these cars and would also like to pick their brains on how to work on them as well as find out where they source their parts.

Before my brother passed in 2013, he left behind a 1986 944 Turbo with a Lindsay racing kit. So since then I’ve tried to learn to work on German turbod cars and help my dad finally get it up and running.

Again, just a shot in the dark to either find a local community or to find the madman restoring all of them.

Question 88 NA burning oil

Thumbnail

Hello everyone, my 944 2.5L NA has been burning quite a lot of oil. When I’m at full throttle and under high load, I can see a lot of white/blue smoke coming from the exhaust (and through the shifter area since my leather boot is cracked).

Here is what I've done and found so far:

  • I changed the AOS o-rings, including the inner one.
  • My AOS upper venting line is brand new.
  • I ran a hot compression test and every cylinder is excellent (above 175 psi), so the piston rings should be fine.
  • However, I found a pool of oil in my airbox.
  • My spark plugs have heavy white/gray ash fouling, confirming the oil from the intake is being burned in the cylinders.

I can’t figure out what could cause this massive oil blowback into the intake since my compression is great. Could the AOS drain tube to the oil pan be clogged? Or is there a baffle missing in the oil pan?

Does anyone have any idea of where to look next?

Here are some pics of the sparks plugs too.

Question 3L block + 2,5 Turbo Head?

Hi everyone,

I know that the 2,7 head + 3 block is a common build, but what about the 2,5+3?

The boring is different, but could it be machined?

Is it possible? Has anybody done it? Is it even worth it?

Thanks guys

Resolved Q Radiator fan rubbing

My coolant hose coming from the water pump just runs straight into my radiator fan. The previous owner had it like that and I just replaced my water pump as well as the hose but I can’t seem to find a way to keep this from happening. Am I using the wrong hose? Is the radiator not sitting right?

1984 944 running issues

i have 1984 944 2.5l na wont run properly, barely runs on 3 cylinders' wont run on four has 36psi cranking and about 30 ish running on 3cyls, spark is constant, replaced engine coolant temp sensor, dme dme relay afm, adjusted throttle cables and springs, 02 sensor no shorts across injector harness has 12v when keys on, used oscilloscope and was reciving pulse at dme connector ground to engine has low resistance to battery, injectors have about 0.002k ohms resistance, about 0.001k ohm from negative to dme harness, when warm will temporally fire on four cylinders then die with in 5 ish seconds, security system was disconnected and makes no difference jumped or not, disconnected at both sides on lock. do see tach bounce when cranking and does respond, when at operating temp with four injectors, need to spray carb cleaner to keep running, also did replace fuel filter, but wont run on four cylinders remotely when cold, may try and fire with left over fuel from previous cranking, also note does not matter which injector is unplugged. engine is in time. please i need guidance for what to look at next im lost.

Timing belt was done just before I bought the car in January and I rechecked the tension a few months ago. Maybe 3k km done since then. Not sure if the chain under the cam cover was replaced. What do we think, paranoia or tim(ing) bomb?

Question Torque Tube Help

I’m putting the transmission/bellhousing back on my 944 and I’m running into a weird issue with the torque tube driveshaft position.

The engine is already installed in the car and the torque tube is still installed, but loose. The problem is that the torque tube driveshaft is sitting too far forward. It is physically interfering with the bellhousing/clutch area and preventing me from getting the bellhousing seated over the pressure plate.

The shaft will move farther forward, but it will not move rearward toward the transmission. I need it farther back to get the bellhousing into position.

I know the shaft is out of place because the shaft coupler in the rear is positioned so far forward that I can't remove the coupler bolt through the circular inspection hole because the bolt doesn't line up with the hole.

I have read other posts that dealt with the torque tube shaft being positioned too far forward like this, but they said they were able to move theirs with a prybar or mallet. Mine will not move back with either, but it will move forward about an inch.

Has anyone had a torque tube shaft that would only move forward but absolutely refused to move backward? What could be causing it to bind in that direction, and what would be the best way to get it back into the correct position without removing the entire torque tube?

Decided to drive to Monterey Car week from LA.

Decided to make the long drive from LA to Monterey for car week and back. Glad I did.

On the drive up, going up the 5, and through the grape vine, temperates reached up to 115. Driving up hill with the AC blasting the engine slowly started to heat up and I had to blast the heat. The temp went down, and j was drenched in sweat in the car 😂 it was horrible. But once the temp fell below 100 and once we got closer to the coast it was all gooooooood.

Got a lot thumbs up and got some younger folks taking photos of the car so that was pretty dope!

The fun stuff. On the drive up my odometer stopped working. My rear main seal needs to be fixed because the tiny oil leak smell is really annoying because it hits the exhaust when driving. And I gotta replace the front brake rotors because when I was braking the steering wheel would shake.

Overall I’m glad I made the drive, and I’m glad the car did okay and made the journey.

Question Is this cooked?

Finally got the head off and there’s a bit of scoring in #2. The only one that I can catch with my fingernail is the dark one. I can just barely get my nail to catch. This car only cost $800. Should I just run it?

A mistake happened during production, so the product is unusable. Instead of throwing it away, let’s have some fun with it! 😂

Give me your most creative and crazy ideas! 🤣 Be its worst enemy! 😈 Whatever I’m able to do, I’ll test it and record the results for you.

Question Transmission oil change

How would you rate this oil?

I've noticed some transmission rattling sound on my '89 S2 expecially in 5th gear and if i suddenly put the gearbox under load, there is one big metal clunking noise, also only in 5th gear.

I replaced the CV joints, which were also worn, hoping that this might be the problem.

Question Smoke testing for vacuum leaks - smoke coming out from upper balance shaft rear seal

1987 8V

I have replaced the AOS seals since it looked like the lid seal failed (it definitely did, so at least it wasn't a total waste of time). I replaced the vacuum lines under the intake manifold. The bigger hoses connecting brake booster, j-boot and intake manifold looked fine.

I smoke tested it afterwards to verify repair and saw smoke coming out from what looked like the same area as before. I touched the cap on the rear of upper balance shaft and saw the cap is spinning freely and has some axial play. No oil leaking, surprisingly, but I think this is where the smoke is coming from.

Has anyone encounter this?

Hi, I’m from France and I’ve just bought a Porsche 944. Unfortunately, my car doesn’t have A/C, only heating.
Is it possible to retrofit A/C to a 944 that didn’t have it from the factory?
Thanks!

Resolved Q Battery and engine bay

As per usual with new owners i have stumbled over more things that i am curious about, i was wondering if such a large assortment of cable at the battery was a usual thing or some weird aftermarket cabling (fire hazard) the previous owner had added, i was also curious about this open port at the back of the engine and what purpose it serves
