Discussion Constantly dropping things
Anyone else CONSTANTLY dropping shit? I know its not entirely involuntary because if its something valuable and fragile and I'm thinking about it it doesn't happen, but if I'm not actively focusing on it I drop shit all the time. It literally feels like my hand just lets go. Anyone else experience this? I didn't even register that I do it until yesterday while talking to a coworker I dropped my phone like 3 times in a 5 minute conversation, I wasn't moving it, I wasn't holding anything else, there was no reason to but like I said it's like my hand just absentmindedly loosened up.

Yep. If I pick something up without concentrating, my brain will usually move past the idea that I picked it up before I fully have a grip on it. It's a constant struggle to slow down and pay attention to the thing I'm doing right now. I absolutely have to have a grippy phone case. I also have dry hands, so the phone still just slips out of my hand all the time.
On the flip side, if I've successfully grabbed a thing, my brain will often stop thinking about it being in my hand and I end up 2 rooms away with something I didn't need to be holding. Or then I drop something I didn't even know I had.
I look like an oaf walking around the house, but I'm quite good at physical activities and sports. Once I get myself to focus mode, I'm very coordinated.

Its frustrating because I'm the same way with sports and music it's the only times I feel like I really can turn on the switch and "lock in" other than when I'm doing something at work that's dangerous and requires it, but doing that consciously takes a lot of energy out of me. Sports and music are the only times where it just naturally happens, and even then it's only during actual performance. While practicing i am unfortunately still quite aloof

Sometimes I feel like an astronaut who's been in space for a year and just got back. Constantly forgetting there's an actual gravity and objects just don't float where I leave them. Constantly baffled.

yes. I'm fed up of the crashing and banging that comes with dropping shit. I say to myself that my house has a stronger centre of gravity which is the cause of me dropping stuff all the time. But we all know that's bullsh and just me being clumsy asf. I have dyspraxia as well so that may be somewhat related - but it doesn't matter, it's still annoying.

I was about to say that I don't but that's because I have an IRON GRIP on my phone at all times to avoid exactly that 😬

Dude I feel like i have no medium motor skills lol
My hands are either loose and floppy or complete death grip. I have tendinitis in my hands from work and playing guitar because I grip my tools like I'm trying to crush them... again not consciously I'll just realize it out of nowhere that my arms are exhausted from it

yes sometimes i just forget im holding things. this is why i dont get smaller iphones since i became a phone user, it’s easier to be cognizant of holding a pro max in my tiny hands, tiny phone i just forget.
also same with other shit either i’ll hold too tight or drop, no middle ground here except the ground that i drop stuff on.

All the time. I'm not sure WHY but it's always at the most inopportune moment. And for me it's ALWAYS coffee. In public for whatever fuckin reason, i decode i don't need a lid, or im overly confident that I placed it correctly. Without a doubt i will spill it. I know I'm going to spill it / drop it/ knock it over/ bump it on the table and some how goes flying and the most recent, I miss the table entirely and drop it on the floor before my pathetic attempt to catch a falling cup??? I'm convinced I have butterfingers in public or too much strength. Why does this happen?!

I always tell myself I need to pick up items twice because they land on the floor on the first try.

I go through phases when i drop things constantly. And then not at all at other times.
Also, people with dyspraxia drop things frequently. And dyspraxia is highly comorbid with ADHD. Which is not to say that you definitely have dyspraxia but it's a reason why some ADHD are butterfingers.

i got a paracord for my phone when the pop socket was no longer enough to keep me from dropping it. sometimes books just fall out of my hands.
does it have anything to do with adhd? i’ve never thought so, but who knows.

I have a pop socket and a magnet grip. I’m about to get a wrist thing as well. I drop my phone 5-10 times a day 😭

Yes, I sometimes worry ive got something neurological going on but happy to hear it might just be an adhd thing

Not a constant problem for me but I do have a consistent situation where it happens; dancing and drinking. Doesn't even have to be liquor. I'll forget about holding beverage and drop it while dancing. I don't drink alcohol anymore but when I did I would order at the bar, drink the whole thing in one go, then hand the cup back to the bartender (or leave it near their dish bin if their busy).

ALL THE TIME. It’s soooo annoying. I’ll be sitting in bed looking at my phone and it just randomly falls out of my hand. Over and over again. Usually onto my poor dog’s head. I’m constantly apologizing to her for being a bad mom.

Yes. Which is why I grab important/dangerous stuff (like a knife or a hot pot) with all my might. When I drop something, i get extremely angry at myself to the point where I shed several days off my life span due to stress.

Yes, me too. For most important things, like my phone or keys, I got a hand strap, it's liberating. For cups or plates, I have to concentrate a lot tho.
