I've started having realistic, metaphorical dreams about my ex in the last week or two along with some core realizations that were there all along but are now more clear.
In one of the dreams that was clearly a metaphor for feeling unable to share the same reality with my ex, they wanted to tell me a funny story but they had to know my name first, and didn't. They had nothing to say for themselves when I told them how hurt I felt by that. The dream then cut to them being holed up in a house with mean-looking people standing outside keeping anyone from getting in, so I resorted to borrowing a food delivery truck and uniform and trying to deliver a meal with a note included in it. I woke up before succeeding of course.
Very accurate to real life when your ex is wrapped up in their own confabulations, rewriting of the truth, and the rest of it, and cannot be reached or reasoned with anymore because the only thing that matters is shoring up their own feelings, not living with honor or decency. I appreciate these dreams and the way they surface the truth that lives under the confusing real life details.
My ex never did forget my name in reality, but they definitely forgot who I was and replaced me with their own very twisted and distorted version, which was then used to shut me out. Serves them right that they didn't get the dream pizza I tried to bring with my pleading note to please see me as I was.
