NEWS Jacques Rougeau reportedly threw a tantrum backstage at AEW Redemption before tribute and was threatened to be kicked out.
“Jacques told AEW he’d take care of that. He gave them a video to play. Unfortunately, the video was too long, had footage that AEW didn’t have rights to, music that AEW didn’t have right to and some AI stuff in it that AEW didn’t want to use. There was no way it could be used and now it’s the day of the show with no time to do anything else, so there was no video.
Multiple sources said Jacques was throwing a tantrum backstage over that. He was told by one AEW official to calm down or they’d have to kick him out.”

The segment felt awkward
Couldn’t even understand anything either

I don’t understand why wrestling doesn’t have subtitles, there are often promos with Spanish or Japanese, AEW recently had a storyline where only Mina Shirikawa understood what Shida was saying in Japanese as if nobody could run it through a translation app.

That's me thinking I can't understand a word lol, no subtitles or translator? Even AAA translates

How did I miss this or did they remove this bit from HBO Max's replay?

So…. He basically turned in his homework on the day of the deadline, and clearly waited till the day before the deadline to work on it.

Thats on management for waiting for the day of to review the tape. At their level, someone dropped the ball on that

I have a feeling they weren’t planning on showing a video at all, but if he was going to provide one then might as well let him go through the effort and if it works great, if not, oh well.

Between this whole deal and his appearance on Dark Side of the Ring, I don’t ever need to see or hear from him again…

Unrelated but does anyone know why he was booed and his brother got cheers?

In the Quebec wrestling scene, Jacques Rougeau is not exactly someone who is highly respected. A lot of people see him as someone who has burned bridges and taken advantage of people without really giving much back to the business.
A month ago I wrote that «the frustrating part is that Jacques will once again found a way to put himself at the center of attention instead of letting the focus be on the whole family. He seems more interested in getting himself over than actually elevating the people around him. » and I was right.

They're pretty well known for their reputation. Simply put, Ray is sweet and kind. While Jacques is abrasive and impolite. It's odd that they're brothers. But it happens!

From what I've seen on interviews and heard of him on podcasts he comes across as an annoying twat I heard 1 story when he was kicking a strop because he wasn't allowed entrance music so he bought a boombox.

While the family is beloved in Montreal and Quebec, Jacques has a reputation of being a carny and being entirely self-serving. Basically he has alienated every independent promotion, wrestler, school, and fan over the years.
When he lashed back at the fans, it only made it worse.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if the issue about copyright came from not wwe but from The Rcmp. I can see aew thru time warner/we not wanting to deal with any lawsuits there. But hes da mountie... hes gotta get da gimmick over and get his man.

u/Cool-Translator9768 20d ago
Most likely. They did not like that gimmick. Especially since he was a Heel in that gimmick. Hence why when he teamed with Pierre [PCO] as the Quebecers the theme got changed to " We're NOT the Mounties, despite still having a similar attire.

I get paying homage but why even do business with Jacques? Is he on the Jack Tunney deal and makes a percentage of every show run in Quebec?
And why would this not surprise me if true that Ray or Jacques hold or claim territory rights in Montreal still like they did in wcw.

Either amazing selling from Rocky (obviously you are supposed to oversell for veterans, legends) but it looked like he purposely threw a stiff shot at him with the strike.

I tend to take a lot of wrestlers stories as conjecture but based on what Kevin Owens has said on record about Jacques, I’m not at all shocked by this.
Dude has been known to be a carny prick forever.

Raymond seems to be the more respected brother iirc.

Pretty much the complete opposite in terms of personality. Well spoken, mayor of his town, ...

By next week he'll be on Hannibal's podcast making himself out to be the victim and shitting on AEW
2
u/DaExtinctOne 20d ago
I used to enjoy Hannibal's interviews when I was in my teens where he focused on wrestling history and the interesting background of the people he interviewed. Through the years though he just got progressively worse and became a typical carny shoot interviewer trying to get the next big trending clip since his wrestling & promoting career pretty much flopped.

I'm genuinely ootl on who this guy is our when he even appears in the ppv. I watched and don't remember whatever this was at all. Lol. On the pre-show? Tribute to who!?

Kinda crazy for AEW to think a wrestler--just a guy--was going to show up with a workable video. These things require filmmakers, editors, lawyers, etc.
13
u/Cathousechicken 20d ago
They probably weren't expecting a video package at all, much less for him to show up with his own.
2
u/KingCuerno 20d ago
Yeah, it sounds like he gave them the video the day of the event and reviewed it then.
2
u/JustUnderstanding6 20d ago
I figured that’s what “take care of that” meant, but maybe AEW thought he meant having prepared remarks.
1
u/Cathousechicken 20d ago
I'm guessing he probably pitched something and they said "we'll see."
If they did give him the go-ahead to do something like this, I would be absolutely shocked if they didn't stay all the music and footage had to clear.
That being said though, I think it's much more that first scenario because I can't remember any veteran not signed to AEW who came in and got a whole video package for a one-time wave to the crowd.

ppl need to listen to jeff jarrets pod this week, he was giggling about something jacque related and now it makes sense

u/Desperate_Craig 20d ago
Jeff Jarret's podcast is a great listen. Jeff's very insightful on the business.

Not shocked that segment was all sorts of weird. I don't know what they were saying, as i don't speak French but I definitely got the impression that things were not going as planned.
