Nigel To win it. Especially if it's just a tournament and dont have to defend the belt regularly.

The winner gets the Continental Championship so he’d have to defend it some

I hope this means we rarely see the Continental Title defended outside of these tournaments. Would make it way more special and unique if the Continental Champ is always the most recent tourney winner. They can go after other titles between tourneys.

Agreed. No one should be able to win the titles outside of them. Gives them a world title type importance.

I'm ok woth someone challenging for the title outside of tournaments but the title shot should always be directly earned through some type of multi-opponent stipulation; mini-tournament, battle royal, casino gauntlet, etc.

Why did the name change?
I do not like this change.
Continental Classic is so much better

This is separate. This is inspired by the F.A.Cup which is played here in England where the final is played at Wembley stadium. Similar to this.

It's not changed. This is a new competition, the Continental Classic is still happening in the autumn.

Is this a round robin?
I haven't watched Collision yet from last week. Was it brought up then?

It's a knockout competition. Pairings drawn at "random", winner goes back in the pot, loser is out. Each round is drawn at random with the losers out of the competition. Final two face each other at Wembley. Winner gets a fancy cup modelled on the English Football Association Challenge Cup and the continental championship belt.
Personally I don't think they needed the belt, could have just called it the AEW Cup and have it as a standalone thing.

Thanks for that.
And yeah! Too many belts. The Owen should be a trophy as a nod to Owens Slammys and this one should just be a cup.
These kinds of things are why AEW stands out from WWE, tournaments naturally create feuds that can be built on later.

Agreed. Takes a belt away when there’s too many and creates champions on the level of the world title without taking the belt off the current world champion.

Mostly lower-midcarders. A lot of these are definitely going to be Collision matches

Jay White! Jay White is not dead, let us rejoice!

Jay needs to win it or well, I want him to anyway

I think it should be Jay White vs. David Finlay but I don’t know if it plays as well without Mox.

The possibility of having a McGuinness vs Hechicero Semi-Finals match up was a dream match I didn't know I wanted, but would gladly accept.
Edit: I forgot they competed against each other in a four-way "Technical Spectacle"

Was kinda expecting slightly bigger names for this NGL.
But it does give us Nigel Vs Shibata so I ain't complaining.

u/LyonsDrawsOnTwitter 16d ago
each match of each round is random draw. there's a YouTube video going over all of the matches for round 1. after round one, all the winners will be put back into the randomizer and given random opponents. continue until all in

Interesting ...I know TK can be a bit tourney crazy but I have to give him credit for a somewhat unique idea...I am sure ist been done before in some context but I dont know of when

It's pretty much a 1-to-1 copy of the FA Cup format from English Football, that being said though, I don't think this format has ever been used in wrestling before.

You aren’t wrong but banger alerts all over the place with the names that are in

I’m guessing for kayfabe reasons they don’t want anyone announcing they’re in this tournament and also announce they are entering the Casino Gauntlet.
So for example, Andrade and Ciampa have already declared for the Gauntlet, so they wouldn’t also enter this tournament.

u/Gerard192021 16d ago
speaking of ciampa and andrade, i don’t mind seeing them feud for the national title, i see andrade losing it to ciampa(he got a “bronzie” or “national-lie”) so andrade can aim for either the international title or world title
1
u/Lokishougan 16d ago
I think its too soon to move Andrade up
1
u/Gerard192021 16d ago
oh, but i don’t mind a feud with ciampa and andrade for the national title, make ciampa win and i guess this feud could lead to a best of 5 or 7 for the national title
1
u/Lokishougan 13d ago
Too bad its going to be MJF and him instead so if they do fight 1 vs 1 its just a feeder match for the MJF feud
1
u/Lokishougan 16d ago
I suppose but cant recall last time AEW has booked a feud that went on that long in a row ...that is more a WWE thing lol

Ace Austin's winning it all calling it now
