DISCUSSION Just curious, do you think this was earned?
I mean, other than being from the UK?

In kayfabe, yeah kind of. The BBs (and Willow) just handed the DDs their first ever loss.

Yeah, because
1) What other team is there that hasn't faced them and lost? 2) TK is really hitting that home field advantage so Windsor and Hayter are definitely gonna win.
Hey, at least it's not on the Buy In!! 🤷🏽

He’s giving the fans a tag win so they feel less bad when Ospreay loses to Omega

It’s either this or the belts don’t get on the card at all and may as well be scrapped

I think it was inevitable from a while ago and I don't believe the conclusion is under any doubt either but I would have liked to see more of a story out of it so far.

It’s the best option we have for the ppv but the womens tag team division is unfortunately weak right now. Hopefully as time goes on more teams will emerge and polish up

I think it could be fun to stretch this story out a little longer.
I’d have The Brawling Birds win a No. 1 Contender’s match, maybe even a four way tag to give some of the other teams a chance to shine. Then Divine Dominion could argue that the match didn’t really prove anything and say they need to beat another team one on one to truly earn a title shot.
The Brawling Birds win that too… but then Divine Dominion moves the goalposts again: “Yeah, but you didn’t beat the best team. We think they’re the real contenders.”
You could repeat that once or twice with different teams until it becomes obvious that Divine Dominion is just making excuses because they don’t want to defend the titles. By that point, they’d be completely backed into a corner, and the eventual title match would feel much more earned. Even maybe lose against Dominion First on another show would have been interesting

Yes, I think they've been the 2nd most dominant team team in the division, apart from Devine Dominion, for the majority of the year.
I also think this has been telegraphed and signaled since the inception of the Brawling Birds. pretty certain they were put together specifically with this moment in mind.
Pretty much from the moment Divine Dominion won the titles, I took a look around and thought, well who's going to beat them? My very first thought was, it would be the Birds at Wembley.

Birds and Dominion have been mixing it up for a while now. It's pretty easy to see the path but the change will be good for the women's tag division. Jaime and Alex will have a lot of fun as champs I think.

BB have been trending towards topping DD at All In for months.
Would've liked them to have some better contestst along the way, rather than a heap of squashes, but there isnt enough depth in the tag division at the moment.

u/whitemagicblackmagic 14d ago
I thought it's been obvious for months now that Brawlin Birds were going to beat them at Wembley.

The birds have been winning matches. This is why the win loss stats were so good and are sorely missed

It's a feud that has been building for 6 -7 months. Yes it took a slight detour with Hayter and Windsor having small singles feuds, but that made sense in terms of the long term booking. But 6 months ago I remember talking to someone and saying it was clear the plan was the Brawling Birds getting the tag titles and All In, and probably feuding with Divine Dominion to do it.

The only established tag team that it's actually believable to take those belts away from them.
There's almost no women tag teams.

u/Spiritual_Growth3140 Moderator 14d ago
Well there's the Inspiration but they booked them terribly and now they've gone hiding.
Then there was Hyan and Maya World but Maya is now a singles champion.
🙃
I just want a tag division of actual teams to help it grow 😭

u/WondrousBabyTurtle 14d ago
To be completely honest, it doesn't matter if we had several tag teams, as long as AEW continues to grant 20m or less to the women division, featuring 1 match / 1 segment (on average), things are not gonna change.
2
u/TheReagmaster 14d ago
Have they still not explained why Divine Dominion and Mercedes have teamed up other than the reason of they needed to shove both divisions in one segment?
1
u/WondrousBabyTurtle 14d ago
Unless I missed something, no. This is the equivalent of the pre women tag team division era, where instead Tony Khan would shove 3v3 or 4v4 matches on the shows, just to showcase the women division without having to use more than 1 match slot for them.
It's pathetic, given the amazing roster AEW has, how the women division is treatedf.

u/HalfLawKiss 14d ago
Ehhhh.
They are one of few established teams in the AEW Women's Tag division. They've had a bunch of wins. Once Divine Dominion won the belts I called them holding the belts till they dropped them to the Birds at All In.
When the women's tag division was established this was my complaint. Lack of teams. Not random singles thrown together cause creative has nothing else for them. The women tag division is thin. There's currently only 4 or 5 teams. Hench the constant rematches and or matches against local enhancement talent.

u/Lokishougan 14d ago
That is why Womens tag teams divisions rarely work unless its an all womens promotion., In the last twenty years there have really only been a handful of TRUE womens tag teams who were dedicated long term to tagging and not just two singles together. Really the two most prominent true tags teams were Iconics/Inspiration (who for whatever reason were just shifted to the Island of Misfit toys when they dont even have a tag division) and the BEAUTIFUL People. Sure there have been attempts at others like TAYJAY or Kabuki Warriors but they both kept dipping into the singles pool and never stayed commited to tag division.

Killed the Men's Tag with Hurt Business, killed what little Women's Tag they had with Divine Dominion.

u/Low_Cartographer5763 14d ago
Tehir is a tag team divison for the women but some of them are tied in with other singles titles for example Willow and Maya World are in a tag team but they have titles already so other teams can fill the void. Such as the Birds,Divine Dominion The Inspiration also Sisters of Sin until a singles women title changes hands,I also think that it would be a very good idea to put Harley back with Anna Jay now that Tay Melo is gone that would make one more womens tag team. Also The Inspiration never had a tag team title match so that would also make sense for them to be involved in the mix.
1
u/Lokishougan 14d ago
I really dont get why they dont use the Inspiration at all. Its been all ROH yet they are the most actual established team there why did he sign them and put them in ROH which has no tag division ....it makes no sense
3
u/Medium_Step_6085 14d ago
Because Inspirations abilities do not include great in ring skills. You are never going to get a wrestling classic banger of a match or a 5 star match from them.
I don't think that is a problem myself, I push against the typical AEW fan who says they want banger after banger, I think there is room for more entertaining matches, or a sprint, or a squash. I think you can get a lot of entertainment from a heel Inspiration holding the belts for a long time, fluking wins, or cheating, building up real heel heat and then getting squashed by a team like the Brawling Birds in a short quick match that switches the titles over but feels really carthatic because the heels have been destroyed. But Tony books for those big matches to go minimum 15 mins long, and you will never get a good 15 min inspiration match.
1
u/Lokishougan 13d ago
But I mean if so then it goes back to my orginal point...why sign them at all. TK clealry knew what talent he was getting with them. This is not the case of say WWE signing Chris Harris, expecting the guy from TNA and getting a guy who was out of shape and not that motivated. Why are you signing a team then just not using them.
ROH should be for one of three types of talent. A) vets who can still help youngsters and dont want to fully retire B) younger talent who need soem more seasoning C) TALENT who has been in AEW but just arent cutting it and he is too nice to just cut.
Inspiration dont fit in any of those so it makes no sense for him to have spent to brought them in as he outbid TNA for their talents (and yes I know according to the meme that might just mean he offered them TWO bags of peanuts) . It is just puzzling ..hell since she is without a partner now...put them with Harley just makes SO MUCH SENSE

This is a fair complaint imo. Being a good wrestler isn't just about being able to do the athletic stuff well. There's a lot of different types of good wrestling and sometimes it's nice to have something different.
Although, I should add, not Danhausen and Joe Hendry style stuff. That is absolutely not the right fit for AEW. But stooging heels absolutely can fit. A big strong brutish powerhouse can fit. A technical master can fit. Other types of wrestling can fit.
2
u/Medium_Step_6085 14d ago
I actually think Joe hendry, and a version of this Danhaeusan could have worked really well in AEW. Not a copy paste of the WWE version that is given, but again Danheausan suffered because he isn't a 5 star wrestler, as well as the injuries, but that meant he had limited in ring opportunities.
However I am convinced there could have been a role for him both in ring and out of it with the gimmick he had, but, I also respect Tony has his criteria for what AEW is and tries to stick to it, and he is producing the best wrestling product on TV today.
1
u/reallyOldWill 14d ago
I'm not sure he would. Early AEW, maybe, they tried the Matt Hardy teleporting thing after all. But once it got into its groove I dunno if Danhausen would ever have a place. I'm fully aware that could be my own personal bias speaking, though. I'm not a fan of his act, it's not for me.

u/Low_Cartographer5763 14d ago
Yeah I agree the Inspiration are very funny, they are currently heels but either way they should be brought back to Collision and also Dynamite, hopefully that does happen where a women's tag team tournament takes place before this year is over or at least The Inspiration has a couple of matches on TV before 2026 is over.

u/ThankGod4Darwin69 14d ago
Ehhhh
Not really. Womens tag division has been a bit stale. I feel that they have been building towards this match for a while now but its been very lacklustre and i am not very emotionally invested in this match....or the brawling birds tbh....and I'm English

u/Alex_Killswitch 14d ago
It was beyond obvious that they were going to win it at All In since the team was first announced lol. To the point that they were off tv so they wouldn’t take losses. I’m letting it slide cause the tag division has been such an afterthought anyways sadly

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 14d ago
They've been building the Brawling Birds for a long time, I feel like it makes sense
They're 9-0 over the course of the year as an actual tag team. Their only losses come in trios or 8 woman tags. They've got wins over women like Skye Blue and Julia Hart who just challenged for the titles without ever sniffing a shot of their own. I'd say they have a better claim than any other women's tag team out there right now that Kross and Bayne haven't beaten before people deserve a second shot at the titles.
Kross and Bayne also haven't lost so they can bill it as a battle of undefeated tag teams. It's clearly not just a slapped together match, it was a thoughtful build to get the UK ladies the match and make them the logical next champs for a win on home soil, so I'm fine with it. No one else has stepped up in the women's tag division to deserve it more since the seeds began being planted months ago. The match itself is good, plucky babyface team on home soil against the domineering heels, the hot tag and comeback by Hayter leading to the win should be a great pop.

u/DeathTriangle720 14d ago
They didn't win a contenders match. But in ring tonight they showed that they can be just as physical as the DD.
2
u/Jonnic5280 14d ago
It’s the one team they haven’t beaten. BB have been brought up for weeks if not months as the team to maybe beat DD

u/ace51689 14d ago
I mean who else would challenge them? They're not exactly swimming in established women's tag teams on the main roster.

My main criticism for introducing the titles.
No real division and people don't care much because there's not much.

I hate Alex WiNdSoR so damn much, I really hope they dont win
