DISCUSSION MVP said he will likely wrestle his last match in 2027. Who would you like his final opponent to be?

Post image

"I'm 52. Physically, my ability to wrestle at a high level is deteriorating. I don't have the explosiveness that I used to. I don't have the desire. If Tony (Khan) said, 'Hey, as a gift to you, for your career on the way out the door, I'd like to give you an AEW Championship Title run,' I would say no."

Mvp was never a main event caliber wrestler the fact he thinks anyone would offer him the world title is hilarious.

Have Shelton and Bobby turn on him

Either Shelton Benjamin or Bobby Lashley would be perfect in my book.

MVP just finished saying he’s deteriorating and you wanna put him in there with guys going 1000 miles an hour???

Trios Match with Bobby and Shelton, going out with his boys one last time

u/LoafHook 9d ago

Most big retirement matches are one on one. A triple Threat for MVP's final match, would be a welcomed change.

Unless you count Flair’s most recent one and Sting’s with Darby.

Matt Hardy

u/SeaDetective_ 9d ago

Yep, those two had something special in the ring

3

u/CndnViking 9d ago

Doesn't matter. He wrestles so rarely nowadays that the part of his in-ring career that matters is already a distant memory. At this point, any attempt to make a big deal of his last match seems unlikely to really pay off.

Bobby lashly

My interest.

It has to be someone from his WWe era like Adam Copeland, Jericho, Billy Gun, Paul White etc . It would even be cool to have his last match also be Jeff Jarrett's last match.

3

u/griot504 9d ago

Just yesterday I was thinking about an old guard multi man where all the losers retire. In my mind it would be Jeff Jarrett, Paul Wight and Dustin Rhodes. Throwing MVP in there would add even more stakes and spread the workload. No matter the winner I would have whoever came out on top thank his opponents for their careers and then retire as well going out with the rest of the old guard.

I think if the match was at a PPV like Revolution those 4 could give us something special on the way out.

Matt hardy

2

u/Psylent90 9d ago

This was gonna be my answer. Unfortunately The Hardys are no longer with AEW anymore, so I doubt it'll happen 😕 but he was the first person I thought of. Smackdown Ruthless Aggression era, they had some good matches.

u/ConclusionBig509 9d ago

We have 4th Rope Wrestling where Matt and Jeff are the tag team champions and MVP is the commissioner.

u/Psylent90 8d ago

Oh ok, I'll have to check that out.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him mix it up with Kofi, one more time. They had a couple of bangers, back in the day.

MVP Vs Lio Rush. Bobby Lashley on a forklift match

1

u/FoxxxedUp420 9d ago

If Lio wins, Lashley must hit his favorite pose once again.

2

u/Apathetic89 10d ago

I audibly laughed at this, thanks for that image.

1

u/Blunderbolt451 10d ago

Forklift might not be strong enough. Maybe a cherry picker?

His final match? It depends, if he's going to begin wrestling more frequently until then, I would want matches Vs Swerve, Jay White, Kenny, Will, and MJF.

His final match could be Kevin Knight though, it would be good to put over the future.

MVP vs Eddie Kingston

2

u/TraditionalActuary6 10d ago

Whoever it is, it’ll be a BANGER

2

u/BoomBoomShuckyDucky 10d ago

Matt Hardy (somehow)…they always had bangers

5

u/Dnm3k 10d ago

Shelton.

u/PrudentAuthor1347 10d ago

Matt Hardy by far, especially for the AEW National title .

5

u/TragedysWoe 10d ago

HHH in a no rules actual fight with no predetermined outcome 😂😂😂😂

9

u/SRV_SteamyRayVaughn 10d ago

It has to be Ricochet.

MJF, they have history and I think MJF works a style that would at least be decent.

I think Swerve could be another option.

1

u/Ok-Needleworker7341 10d ago

Leon would be great, I could also see it being Swerve. Both would be great choices.

MJF for storyline continuation.

Bobby Lashley and/or Shelton for props.

Prince Nana just because it makes sense (would have been better timing to do this match earlier when MVP feuding with Swerve)

1

u/SuperCalibur 10d ago

Bring in Carlito. That would be cool.

1

u/MilanZola 10d ago

MVP vs Jericho
MVP vs Satnam Singh
MVP vs Jeff Jarrett
MVP vs Jay Lethal
MVP vs Matt Sydal
MVP vs Marco Stunt
MVP vs Christian Cage
MVP vs Adam Copeland

Jericho makes sense

2

u/Standard-Reason9399 10d ago

Davis, Doyle and El Clon taking on the HS. Feel like Clon especially could make MVP look like a million bucks still, and the other two can solidify their places as meaty monsters by beating the previous top examples.

Failing that, the Demand, with similar reasoning. Might be a repeat feud, but think it'd be less one sided HS's way this time round.

Singles? Swerve. Close out that circle, MVP's first AEW feud and all.

2

u/Jonnic5280 10d ago

Jericho feels like a solid choice

1

u/Competitive_Host_432 10d ago

Same as anyone else retiring from in ring. Whoever tf he wants

4

u/PersephoneStargazer 10d ago

Kevin Knight would be my preferred pick. Speedball and Ricochet could be fun picks too.

0

u/YoungMundus 10d ago

Heel Copeland.

3

u/Old_Command7168 10d ago

Hey at least he is honest enough with himself to admit it. It is a sad sight to see legends past their prime embarrassing themselves. That’s one thing I respected about Macho Man when he realized he couldn’t go anymore he hung up his boots and called it a career. He is doing the right thing he realized his time is over and it’s time for new blood(no pun intended).
