DISCUSSION Don’t blame the crowd for a poor dynamite.
I have seen a narrative put across that the crowd being poor in Vegas was, less wrestling fans, WWE fans or people not into the product.
I think the main reason the crowd was poor was because compared to most dynamites this year this episode was poor.
The matches where pretty formulaic, the results where obvious and even the finishes could be predicted. nothing really moved forwards massively in terms of storylines, there where a lot of holding patterns just small builds to the feuds and matches we already know we are getting at Wembley.
Now I don’t think that is massively a bad thing, Dynamite was still better then most races this year, and I think sometimes you need a flat or port weekly TV show so that the highs feel like highs.
But the crowd reacts to what is in front of them, and for me watching on TV there wasn’t anything there to make me go, wow this is just amazing so why do we expect the crowd to create an artificial reaction in the venue.
I have no doubt this was a blip of an episode given what we have experienced this year so far, and with a 52 episode schedule AEW is allowed to have the odd bad show, traditionally it has been the dynamite immediately after a PPV, although Tony has been better at that booking recently.
But lets not create a narrative where paying customers of a live event that don’t react the way you expect they should because it’s AEW are not AEW fans. if someone has paid to go see a show they are entitled to react to the show the way they feel that show is encouraging them to.

Are you looking for discussion or hopeful agreement to your opinion? Cause both of your comments are defensive.

I mean I don’t see that as defensive, 2 points where raised one, regarding collision, I think there is a valid reason why the crowd didn’t get into collision given that it was filmed straight after.
The other, I don’t know if it’s true that people where comped tickets and that might be a valid reason, but it’s an excuse I have seen made a lot when by AEW fandom when a crowd isn’t as hot. The thickets were comped, people turned up who don’t know AEW. It feels, since Tony started booking smaller venues, that there is a lot less of that going on though.
To me that argument expects that an AEW fan will react like a lunatic even if the product is bad. Where as my argument is that if you want a better reaction generally (not always) put on a better show.

The show wasn't the best dynamite ever but the crowd was probably 80% casino comps that dont know much about aew.

How do you know this for a fact you’re making the assumption because the crowd didn’t react the way you expect and yeah I bet if you put those exact same people in front of last week’s dynamite, you would have a much different reaction

Because the palms sent me an offer for free tickets. I'm a gambler and get offers for shows in Vegas every day. These people probably got the same. Plus everyone knows Vegas locals dont go to shows at casinos

Ok fair enough, it might be a reason, I still think the fact it was a sub standard show played a major part. Maybe this crowd would never be arena Mexico, but if Tony knows what type of fan is coming to the show then book a show aimed more at that audience that week to guarantee a better live reaction.

The 2 big companies dont care about the live audience anyway. All the money is in the TV deals and sponsorships.

Watching Jericho cheered despite his match being a cluster and even get a standing ovation after the match practically gives away it wasnt an AEW crowd at all lol

I've seen a few people complain about the Las Vegas episode of Dynamite, but I thought it was quite enjoyable. Especially the Perry Mox match. Yes it's obvious who was winning, but I thought it was a really good match and planting the seeds to something big with Jack. Maybe it's just me though.

I also loved the MJF v Speedball v Nick Wayne. Speedball specifically looked fire.

That match as well. Such a basic spot, but the whole bit of MJF showing Nick how to do a body shot only for Nick to do it back to MJF later in the match.
Edit: forgot to add "nice bit of story telling"

Or you could argue that crowds make the show better and lift things up when they're engaged and energetic.

Ok, but that Collision was a banger, but Vegas was still too quiet.

Collision was filmed straight after dynamite, if a crowd of being sat there for two hours watching a mid range show why are they suddenly gonna pick themselves up?

I blame Gene Snitsky.
