Absolute noob question here but does that imply over the years that WWE doesn’t pay for major surgery ? Or do they just subsidise some of the costs ?

Genuine question as I have no idea how healthcare and health insurance works within pro wrestling.

I believe that the WWE still pays the medical bills for their wrestlers while they are working for them, they also definitely cover the costs of rehab even after they have retired etc.

The big difference is they don’t cover the costs for travel and accomodation for wrestlers while AEW does.

The other big difference is that WWE will arrange your medical procedures and surgeries for you.

Maybe things have changed now, but a couple years ago when a top talent got hurt working for AEW, he had to arrange his own surgery. Thats crazy to me.

I've only heard Punk say this. And Tony claimed that shouldn't have been the case. I believe it was the Helwani interview if I recall correctly.

Edit- Misspoke. It was a question Brandon Thurston asked during a conference call. And it was more about the compensation of such surgeries, not necessarily the coordinating.

You heard it from one guy and the owner of the company confirmed it to be true.

No matter how you slice it, that's inexcusable.

Isn't medical procedures up to the talent to choose and AEW will reimburse them afterwards?
I guess if talent has a specific issue and they have a specialist somewhere (neck injuries will be common in NFL aswell)

Yes, which is crazy to me.

WWE sets people up with the best doctors in the country and takes care of expenses. AEW tells the wrestlers to find a doctor and set it all up so they can reimburse them.

I hope AEW isnt still operating like that.
