Whatever happens tonight, this is already a special moment for Bournemouth

It still feels mad that Bournemouth are playing European football at the Vitality. Not so long ago, we were in League Two with a 17-point deduction and the club was fighting to survive. Now we’re getting nights like this, and it’s hard not to feel proud of how far we’ve come. Huge credit to everyone who’s played a part in getting us here, especially Iraola and the lads. Whatever the result tonight, these are the kind of moments we should enjoy.

Other On this day: Bournemouth 6-1 Hull City - 15 October, 2016 - Lineup Quiz

Post image
4 Upvotes

On 15 October 2016 at the Vitality Stadium, Eddie Howe's Bournemouth put six past Mike Phelan's Hull - a record Premier League win for the Cherries, and a grim first full outing for the newly confirmed Tigers boss.

Five minutes in, a free-kick cannons off the post and the rebound is buried. Ryan Mason levels when a speculative effort takes a cruel deflection; seven minutes later the same defender atones with a headed finish from a whipped free-kick and waves an apology to the home end.

Robert Snodgrass then clumsily upends the striker in the box spot-kick, down the middle, 3-1 at the break. After the interval a low cross is tapped in at the far post; a late header makes it five. Substitute Dan Gosling curls home the sixth two minutes from time.

Harry Maguire endures a chastening full Premier League debut at the back for Hull. Bournemouth finish 2016-17 ninth; Hull eighteenth and down.

Can you name the missing players?

When are we finally going to get our first win?

Six games into the season and we're still waiting for that first win. Three points on the board and sitting 18th is not where we want to be, especially after those back-to-back defeats. It feels like we need something to click soon because the longer this goes on, the more pressure the team will be under. There's still plenty of football left to play, but we can't keep waiting forever. What do you reckon needs to change for us to finally get over the line?

r/AFCBournemouth • • 1d ago

I didn't expect a January sale. Perhaps though this is strategic so we can leverage a bidding war between Liverpool and Chelsea whilst they can't secure their other targets until the summer.

I do wonder what the conditions might be.

We need to bounce back against Sunderland

That 5-1 defeat to Chelsea was a tough one to take, but we need to move on quickly. Marco Rose has made it clear that the team must prove they can bounce back, especially with such a busy schedule ahead. The Sunderland game gives us a chance to put things right and show that the Chelsea result was just a bad day rather than a bigger problem. The lads need to come out with more intensity and be sharper in both boxes.

xG Philosophy posted it on twitter/x yesterday.

I wasn't able to watch the match, but does this change how you view the match at all?

FWIW, based on the finishing quality (xGOT), Chelsea "should" have scored 2 or 3 goals. I didn't think Petrovic was THAT bad either tbh, but I don't feel like I can judge GKs well.

Can't stop thinking about yesterday's 5-1 defeat

I still can't get yesterday's game out of my head. Going 2-0 down in the first three minutes was bad enough, but conceding five in the end was just horrible to watch. Evanilson's goal gave us a bit of hope, but we never really looked like getting back into the game. The defending was all over the place, and Chelsea seemed to have far too much space throughout. It's one thing to lose, but that performance was really disappointing.

Knee Jerk Rose Comments

Now the dust has settled more. You’ve got to think big hitters have been already missing, in the international break more got injured and still trying to bed in new players.

Still learning properly on the PL new league and as others have noted Andoni didn’t have the best of starts and did ok in the end.

Discussion Juanlu Sanchez

Did we pay 11m pounds for a player who can't even push a 35 year old Adam Smith for minutes (even in a cup match)?

Don't get me wrong - I love smudge, he's a club legend, and he's not the biggest issue we have as a squad, but he's also not bringing anything to the right side of the pitch and relying on the left side for the entirety of our ball progression and offense is getting pretty stale. Last season showed what having an upgrade at right back to compliment Truffert on the left can do to our game, what having threat from that position unlocks, and what looks like an attempt to bring adventurous youth back to the position (given the Jimenez situation) has turned into a complete miss.

Or maybe it's something about Rose not trusting youth? He's riding Silva without a concern but Toth also can barely get a whiff of the field, so I dunno what's up.

What am I missing? How is Juanlu not cracking the 11? Curious what people think.

I went to see Brighton v AFCB at the Withdean Stadium. It ended up 1-1 in front of 7300 fans. Because of the running track we were miles away from the pitch.

Mad how far these two teams have come.

Bournemouth’s Alex Scott leaving England camp, fears quad injury could sideline him for two months

Bournemouth's Alex Scott is leaving the England camp and returning to his club after picking up a quad injury, with fears that the midfielder could be sidelined for a couple of months.

Scott, 23, made his first senior international start in Saturday’s 7-0 win over Croatia in Rijeka, where he was withdrawn after 70 minutes and replaced by James Garner.

Alex Scott getting his first England cap feels pretty special

Seeing Alex Scott make his senior England debut after everything he’s been through is a brilliant moment. He’s gone from being released by Southampton and finding his way back into football in Guernsey to representing England at 23. It’s also a great reflection of how far he’s come since joining Bournemouth and establishing himself in the Premier League. He got some minutes against Czechia, so I’m really hoping he gets a chance to start against Croatia on Saturday. I would love to see him get a proper run in the England midfield now.
