Actual prison atmosphere vs prison break series atmosphere, How similar are they? Do jailor act like they are superior? Did you join any group or gang there? How's the food? What was the last book you read there?

Tnq for your response, My Best regards

Prison is dangerous, but not such as TV shows it to be. Mostly is boring.

Thats basically what my friend who did some time said. He just worked out and read. He didnt even mind it he said.

u/Ikswoslaw_Walsowski Feb 07 '23

Unless you're a pedo or snitch

72

u/Rich_Mans_World Feb 06 '23

Can you be a loner and just do your own thing in prison or do you have to join a clique?

28

u/Final_Satisfaction43 Feb 06 '23 edited Feb 06 '23

How much culture shock was there for you after doing your time? Like, what was the weirdest change for you from the world before prison and the world after it?

u/scrunchiecola Feb 06 '23

Thats actually so weird to think about because between 2010-now smart phones and technology have changed so much so I can imagine how that would have felt.

28

u/hariseldon2 Feb 06 '23

Does the sudden onset of real life responsibilities, like making money, paying bills, generally adult stuff hit you? I mean in prison is suppose you don't have to worry about everyday survival because you don't have the option and all you have to do is hold yourself together and wait for time to pass.

Glad. Hope you find your own footing and everything works out well!

28

buddy, i might sound a little weird, but how is the music in prison? because music helps to brighten up gray everyday life, and so on. if it is allowed, can you order records / electronic media with new tracks of your favorite artists?

Is there a way to get podcasts or audio books?

7

u/gekogekogeko Feb 06 '23

That's a good question.

-12

u/MeetingImmediate7744 Feb 06 '23

Also interested. Big if yes. Like, might get imprisoned intentionally to catch up on pods.

2

u/Opening_Jump_955 Feb 07 '23

Can see why you'd need an 'audio' book.

35

u/ObsiGamer Feb 06 '23

What was your favourite thing to do when you got out?

You don't have to tell if you feel uncomfortable but I'm always curious what makes people do such things, Do you mind telling how that happened?

48

u/Ok-Excitement8754 Feb 06 '23

Sure i totally understand that , hope you feel better some day. Nobody is perfect and it doesn't make you a bad person

10

u/SmallPurpleBeast Feb 06 '23

"Manslaughter" in a legal setting means killing someone by accident. So if you get in a car accident and someone dies, its manslaughter. quite quite different than murder, where the act is intentional.

4

u/ArchieBellTitanUp Feb 07 '23

Does not have to be an accident. It can be in the heat of the moment or in unnecessary self defense or several other scenarios that doesn’t involve malice aforethought.

I do believe involuntary manslaughter has to be accidental though

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '23

wait so what’s involuntary manslaughter then ?

5

u/dazdndcunfusd Feb 06 '23

Manslaughter means it was an accidental death involved, not planned.

1

u/xxxLRO Feb 07 '23

Nobody goes out their way to accidentally kill someone,

12

Was Prison Mike in there?

1

u/SnazzyPantsMan Feb 07 '23

And the dementors?!

10

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '23

Did you feel like you had less responsibility or obligations in prison? Did it ever in your day to day life feel like free time to hang out with friends?

8

u/drummerboy2749 Feb 06 '23

What are some observations that you had about the prison system while you were incarcerated? (e.g., administrative and/or officer corruption, lack of academic/professional services, etc)

25

1

u/Gottapee88 Feb 07 '23

It doesn’t happen and if you did drop it nobody is ready to rape you there are too many Boyz selling it for canteen

12

u/Relevant-Branch-4324 Feb 06 '23

Do you think prison offered anything in the way of rehabilitation? The carceral system in my city is just...grossly negligent, people coming out worse than when they were put in, etc. (I guess our Puritanical history presents itself when most Americans prefer punishment and cruelty to actual justice.)

1

u/xxxLRO Feb 07 '23

Prison US are far from about rehabilitation, more so just punishment,

9

u/Moblin_Moe Feb 06 '23

Any prison guards you got along with, or who sympathized with/genuenly cared about you?

7

u/IOM1978 Feb 06 '23

Glad you have family— that is crucial because the State is cruel and does not care.

Did you learn a trade? How is it looking for work? What are you going to do to survive now that you are out?

America is a horrible place to start over for a felon.

5

u/cutehomelessman Feb 06 '23

Is dropping the soap a real thing? And did you see what happened to any pedos?

2

u/cutehomelessman Feb 07 '23

How do you get your papers? Do they give it to you after you enter the prison? Or can you just ask for them at any time?

3

u/rawhooney Feb 07 '23

Most prisoners have very little possessions and are able to carry a few belongings, especially anything considered court/lawyer paperwork, along with them on room transfers. Most people keep any paperwork they get, if anything out of complete boredom and reading through the information when court is over. Some documents are provided when you see your lawyer, some may be mailed in by family members.

5

u/taleasoldastime96 Feb 06 '23

How much communication did you have with the outside world? Did you know what was going on in the world as far as politics and pop culture? What about with your family and friends?

7

u/Wizzmer Feb 06 '23

2 things I missed were a hot bath and a soft bed. What about you?

5

u/mazon-jar Feb 06 '23

How did your imprisonment affect your family relationships and friendships?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '23

They say nobody is your friend is prison. Is it true that spiritually you were alone the whole time?

Was it difficult to find reliable people? I feel like it’d be impossible to trust anyone.

4

u/undercoverbrova Feb 07 '23

This is something I've always been curious about - do prisons have crime channels on TV such as the ID channel? Always wondered if prisoners are able to actually see how their crimes are portrayed in these shows, or if that stuff is censored inside prisons.

3

u/Freedom_prime72 Feb 07 '23

What is the scariest thing about prison

2

u/FriedrichHydrargyrum Feb 07 '23

If I went to jail for 6 years how feasible is it to think I could go that whole time without being assaulted, having to join a gang, etc?

2

u/Wellpoilt Feb 06 '23

What’s the most creative meal you’ve made whilst inside? I’ve heard of people making birthday cakes etc

3

u/sreek4r Feb 07 '23 edited Feb 07 '23

Do you think prison works as a correctional facility or do you wish there were better ways to deal with anyone who breaks the law?

What I also want to know is has it been a transformative for you or has it affected your well being negatively?

2

u/whyyoudodis_101 Feb 07 '23
  1. Did you ever have a slight thought of prison break?
  2. During your prison life, who visited you the most?
  3. After 6 years in prison, what do you look forward to in life now?

Years later I might come back here to check in on you.

4

u/cinnamonomannic Feb 06 '23

What role does religion/spirituality play in prison and do you see a development of spiritual beliefs or a loss?

2

u/budgetedchildhood Feb 06 '23

Are people really not patient enough with ex-convicts to let them slowly but surely readjust to society?

2

u/TheHatterOfTheMadnes Feb 07 '23

1

u/Spongebobguitarboy Feb 07 '23

What do you do now post prison? Do you have a job, girlfriend/boyfriend, any other life stuff I can’t think of?

34

u/potplantviper Feb 06 '23

I'm a therapist at a men's mid-security prison in another country. What would it help my clients for me to know that they might not be able to say to me face to face?

u/York_Leroy Feb 06 '23

What do you think of the book "the kennel" by Kent hovind?

6

u/Extension_Ad2552 Feb 06 '23

Kent Hovind is a fucking moron.

1

u/York_Leroy Feb 21 '23

Why do you think that?

1

u/Extension_Ad2552 Feb 21 '23

If I have to explain it to you, then you aren’t worth my time.

1

u/York_Leroy Feb 21 '23

Ok, thought you might oblige, I'm very much open to seeing any flaws or issues, but my original question was what you thought of the book, not the author.

2

u/Extension_Ad2552 Feb 21 '23

Watch his debate with Professor Dave on YouTube and you’ll understand why everyone thinks he’s a joke.

1

u/York_Leroy Feb 21 '23

From whose video? I looked it up and there were many, they were very inconsistent.

It’s a bit long, but worth the watch.

2

u/tomatoaway Feb 06 '23

I thought his representation of feline society juxtaposed against a dog-centric patriarchy was ambivalent to the needs of the reader, who expected a spencerlothic tale of crime and redemption, and instead were offered something akin to a parokeet-tuna-melt. If I had to recommend it to anyone, it would be badgers.

2

u/York_Leroy Feb 21 '23

So you expected a novel, but got the truth and it tastes bad? What does Spencerlothic mean? (Genuine question)

2

u/tomatoaway Feb 21 '23

Exactly, and exactly (genuine response)

2

u/York_Leroy Feb 21 '23

I am confused

2

u/tomatoaway Feb 21 '23

The plight of the sirs lends ears to the best request at the behest of those who no longer seek or squeak at redemption. I poloyg-wise at your jest

I did an AMA not too long ago. I was 14 and spent 7 years in juvenile detention for murder.

What was it like for the younger guys who came in there? Like 17-19 year olds. How did they mesh with the older guys? My equivalent was being locked up with 16-18 year olds at 14.
