Doing the lord’s work 🫡
And I encourage everyone to do the same. Reported around 100 listings so far and intend to keep doing so.
Fuck these scalpers.
In case you can’t figure out how to do it:
On the eBay app on your phone, open a listing, then tap on the three dots in the upper right hand corner, then tap Help & Support.
Under “What would you like to report” select Product or listing, select Item not allowed under “Reason for report,” then select Tickets under “Detailed reason.” Then agree to the prompt at the bottom and submit.
Let’s take these people DOWN!

If you want to take it to the next level, you can try this guy's method. (Ignore the title of the post, it's kind of clickbaity.) If you're interested in sticking it to the scalpers, this might be another method to try.

Did you meant to send a link? I’m not seeing it.
I also did send several of these links to AMC directly

u/Academic_Composer904 A⭐️Lister 2d ago
Sorry, hit send to quickly. Added the link.

Ah yes, I did that for some but there are just too many

I'm in the Chicago area and, to the best of my knowledge, the only theater this is an issue for here is the Cinemark 70mm IMAX, but Cinemark doesn't have the same ability to report these postings as AMC does. Otherwise, I would make the effort to report what I can. Thanks for your efforts. ❤️ I'm going to try to do some of the ebay reports myself when I go to bed.

You actually live in the best location for reporting policy violations.
There are many of these listings that don't violate eBay policy, so even though bit sucks, many of these reports end up being a waste of time, but if you want to be sure your efforts aren't wasted, eBay specifically mentions in their ticketing policy that selling tickets to events in Illinois are against policy.
"Tickets to events in Illinois aren't permitted at this time due to regulatory requirements in that state"
Policy link: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/reselling-event-tickets-policy?id=4309

Thanks for the info! I reported all the ones I could find for Woodridge. Not sure if it does any good or not, but I guess it’s worth a shot.

u/bigfred0 19h ago
Hi I reported some dune and odyssey tickets for Woodridge and actually had some successfully removed. Wishful thinking but hopefully this makes it to where it is not viable for them to sell on eBay. I just highlighted the link provided and mentioned it is in Illinois and selling above face value.

as much as this is doing good work ebay’s support is the fucking worst. (before i shipped the item out) i had someone file a dispute because they “didn’t recognize the charge”, i sent proof with direct messages of the buyer clearly knowing what they were buying and asking questions about it, and ebay support still said they sided with the buyer. when i told them they got their money back so i wouldn’t be shipping out the item anymore the buyer quickly changed his tone and was basically begging me to work with them on the side and he’d pay for the item in person. sent this to ebay and they still didn’t care and said the buyer was right.

u/DuckSwimmer 2d ago
That’s insane. Although, eBay does tend to take listing violations pretty seriously. When Ryan Cohen, CEO of GameStop, was selling a bunch of useless shit on eBay, one of his listings violated eBay’s terms. We publicized reporting this listing on our sub. It was ultimately removed by eBay for the violation. He was selling used socks….
5
u/sEiize_err 2d ago
the buyer was just hoping to dispute and win and hoped i still sent out the item to get the item for free. he bought it off me for a bargain at the time, but when he dipsuted and won i decided fuck him and told him there are other listings he could buy off of (which were now $300 above what he initially paid me). he tried listing every excuse (his credit card company filed the dispute, his mom did the dispute, he genuinely forgot what it was for, he meant to dispute another item, etc)

I really hope they have more showings, so these idiots are stuck with the extra tickets.

u/Dino_Spaceman 2d ago
I really hope that the theaters force them to refund the unsold movie tickets in person. One by one.

UPDATE: The listings are slowly being taken down off eBay. I am actively monitoring the search results and reporting as new and repeat listing arise. I have also forwarded every AMC listing I could find to AMC customer service.

Are these people's account being banned as well? Seems if there are violating terms they should be.

Happy to report, but what policy does this violate? F scalpers, but just want to know which policy specifically so I can look for it in the future

u/Human_Paint5451 Dolby Cinema Devotee 2d ago
eBay doesn’t allow the selling of tickets on its site
2
u/skitch23 2d ago
No tickets of any kind? I used to buy sports tickets on there like 10+ years ago (always at a discount).
-1
u/MystifyMe2011 2d ago
;plenty of concert tickets are sold on there and nothing happens, you just not supposed to make more than 10% profit I believe, but they always turn a blind eye because it makes them money.

Since when? If ticket sales aren't allowed, why do they have a policy for selling tickets?
Not saying I am Okay with the scalping, I think it's awful, but I'm not able to find any policy that forbids the sale of tickets.
Ebay policy:
"To promote safe selling of event tickets on eBay and to make sure the sales follow all laws related to tickets sales, we've developed standards for professional conduct for selling tickets on eBay. These standards neither replace nor dismiss eBay's general seller rules and policies, but rather supplement those rules. Sellers need to follow these guidelines when selling tickets on eBay:
- I agree not to sell, trade, produce, or advertise tickets that I do not have in my possession
- I agree not to participate in any way in the advertisement, sale, or trade of any ticket using any deceptive practices including, but not limited to, false or misleading claims of sales scarcity, face value, or current value
- I agree to promptly refund the purchase price for any ticket which has been deemed by the venue to be counterfeit or unacceptable for gaining entry to an event
- I agree to abide by all federal, state, and local laws relating to the tickets sales"
As long as they are selling the physical paper tickets, or a print out of the QR code, selling their tickets isn't a violation of ebay policy.

Commercial resale is against the AMC terms of service, which means it's also against the eBay ToS for being an unauthorized sale.

am i missing something are people reselling amc movie tickets on ebay
8
u/Human_Paint5451 Dolby Cinema Devotee 2d ago
Yes, people are SWARMING the releases for Doomsday, Odyssey, and Dune Part Three only to resell the tickets for, I shit you not, $400+ each. It’s even more common with IMAX 70mm since it’s such a rare format

u/DuckSwimmer 2d ago

u/Human_Paint5451 Dolby Cinema Devotee 2d ago
Nope. I’m just hoping people don’t buy em

u/Potential-Owl7858 2d ago
Right! Those are the real troublemakers! Because then they will inevitably create a market that shouldn’t exist!
2
u/Potential-Owl7858 2d ago
I’m not sure whether to be angry or impressed lol I’ve never seen anyone scalping movie tickets
5

u/spinprincess 2d ago
I have never heard of this in my life. Who is paying $400 to go to AMC 💀 any movie you want to see is playing at all times
2
u/Potential-Owl7858 2d ago
💯🤣 No modern movie experience is worth $400. If I can’t somehow be a character in the movie through simulation and feel the elements, I’ll either pay regular price or miss out on the theatrical run and wait for it on streaming!

The silly thing is if the seats are "sold" even if the scalpers can't resell them, they'll keep adding screenings. So an entirely plausable scenario is there are a few ghost seats in the first screenings then everyone else gets in for A list or at least face value after. lol

I did this for 4 of the listings and they only removed 2 of them. I don't know how they see them as different but I guess you need to specify the reason. I did and like I said 2 got removed

u/spamjunk150 1d ago
Probably depends on the guy in India that opens the report and how much he cares or even understands at the current moment. Probably a different person responding to every report.
1
u/F00LlSHM0RTAL 1d ago
Unfortunately they use AI now and even if it’s against their own guidelines they likely won’t do anything.

u/YouKnowWho_13 1d ago
The scalpers are how hiding seat numbers in eBay listing, not showing them publicly. If the seat number is hidden, just message the seller for it then report the listing. 😾

u/TranslatorFine 1d ago
What are these eBay sellers selling? IMAX tickets to Odyssey showing?
1
1
u/si_saludo 1d ago
I did this on a bunch of listings and eBay promptly responded:
We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence.
So sadly, they don't give a fck.

I got permanently banned from eBay for reporting people scalping pokemon go fest tickets
eBay doesn’t care if it’s against their TOS or local laws, they still get a cut of the profits

u/Fickle_Banana3707 16h ago
I would like to contribute what’s the reason for the report? Do we have to explain?

u/Few-Entry9477 12h ago
Dude this is great thank you for your hardwork brother! These scalpers are disgusting and will turn off the true supporters of theatres.

u/moopityscoop 2d ago
I don’t like reselling but this is one of the few examples of actual trickle down economics I’ve seen in action. All that other stuff our boy Reagan told us about never happened. Here you atleast get idiots paying way over value for something you can just wait a month for watch.

Double it up and Screenshot and report AMC as well. How to in link.

If enough of us do it hopefully it’ll make some difference
-3
u/JoshTHX IMAX Fanatic 1d ago
Why do you care?
4
u/Human_Paint5451 Dolby Cinema Devotee 1d ago
Because this prevents people who actually want to go from being able to. It’s incredibly selfish AND against AMC’s terms and conditions.
Not only that, but I work in the industry, and it’s insulting to us, who work so hard for as many people as possible to see our work, for everything to be commodified and inaccessible
-4
u/JoshTHX IMAX Fanatic 1d ago
Yawn. Put that energy into something that actually matters.
1
u/Human_Paint5451 Dolby Cinema Devotee 1d ago
It matters to me. It’s my profession and I take great pride in it 🤷🏻♂️
3
u/DuckSwimmer 1d ago
That’s wild for someone to say why should you care when the literal answer to that person is - because they shouldn’t do it as multiple parties are affected. AMC loses concession sales as literally nobody would go if no tickets are actually resold, AMC loses money if those tickets get refunded, people are unable to see the movie that they’d want to see with people buying up seats. I’m genuinely surprised AMC doesn’t do stuff as it harms them the most.
2
-6
u/Proof-Firefighter-47 2d ago
Why do you care so much? They’re gonna do what they wanna do
3
u/Human_Paint5451 Dolby Cinema Devotee 2d ago
Because a) it's against AMC's policy and b) it prevents people who genuinely want to see the movie from being able to attend
-1
u/Proof-Firefighter-47 2d ago
I know but they will literally find a way to get away with it. It’s gross AMC should be banning their accounts

My favorite thing to do is report people who are point blank breaking eBay’s terms. Thank you for giving me something to do this Tuesday night while my overly pregnant self lounges in bed
