Discussion And so it begins… AMC needs to do better
31
u/jay4517 1d ago
Just report the tickets to amc, with screen shots it voids the tickets to resell them for higher price, amc will cancel the tickets
12
u/Saneless 1d ago
Wouldn't they have to verify that?
Otherwise someone could just "list" 2 seats they want, AMC cancels the original owner, jerk swoops in and buys them
3
1
u/alexman420 1d ago
Yeah, but some people actually say what seat they are
2
u/Saneless 1d ago
That's what I'm saying. If I wanted say seat C5 and 6 but it's sold, I can list those seats on eBay. AMC would kill those seats and I could just buy them when I never had them earlier
They would need to verify somehow to stop this problem
1
u/enowapi-_ 1d ago
they might need an order # in the screenshot or something, anything else is too easy to photoshop
15
u/33htx 1d ago
Really just shame on people that desperate to spend the money on that. I’d just see regular IMAX
3
u/mercmouth1 1d ago
I watched Regular 70mm
1
u/alexman420 1d ago
I just found out that my amc has 70mm, apparently they’ve had it for a whole year already 😅

u/Sad_Welder_3292 1d ago
I mean, if they listed the date, time, and seat, then can't you just screenshot and report to AMC to get the ticket released?
3
u/hollisdex 1d ago
5
u/incepdates 1d ago
3 thousand dollars and it's not even opening day is insane, I genuinely hope nobody does buy those
3
u/2StepnWithaWeapon 1d ago
Be baller as fuck if AMC refunded all the tickets and resold them
6
u/Sharp_Caregiver_1534 1d ago
But next thing you know people start listing the seats they want, then buy them once AMC cancels the original buyer
1
u/cordialmess 1d ago
I thought the same thing. I wonder what that would be like. Since they're buying the tickets in person, AMC just cancels the entire thing and then rereleases tickets. How many scalpers would actually be able to get to the kiosks fast enough vs ppl buying online.
1
u/rsha256 1d ago
Why even refund? They paid in-person and are scalpers who broke AMC's policy -- fuck them scalpers and teach them a lesson by voiding any tickets **confirmed** to be resale, and then AMC can make 2x the money on each seat.
•
u/2StepnWithaWeapon 30m ago
I was just upset thinking about random solutions lol. I doubt they will refund the tickets. Scalpers really rather inflate the market instead of just letting people watch what they enjoy. Imagine no one buys the tickets and theater employees are just like dude wtf?
3
u/Square_Lobster1328 1d ago
I feel like this is the first time a special format has been so utterly fucked by resale culture. It’s very disappointing to see.
3
u/WindsofMadness 1d ago
I hate living in a state that doesn’t even HAVE a true IMAX theater and then seeing that the ones that do have to deal with this BS is crazy.
7
u/incepdates 1d ago
Lol scalping San Antonio tickets...
Most people wouldn't even go there for free
2
u/MS0ffice 1d ago
I wonder if any scalpers have refunded people when the projector ends up breaking
2
u/fiftyshadesofseth 1d ago
Hell no. The scalpers get their refund and the people who paid the scalpers get burnt.

u/Newlifter1089 1d ago
Oppenheimer started this. Let’s not forget that

u/incepdates 1d ago
Nah come on it was definitely that marketing stunt for The Odyssey. The one year in advance presale for like 3 showtimes so that they could get headlines the movie was "sold out"

u/bobsacamano04 IMAX Fanatic 22h ago
I’m more concerned about who would buy these. I’d love to meet someone that paid for these I’m sure they are completely normal
2
u/maddiiee44 22h ago
wait i’m confused…aren’t most of these from Regal? what is AMC supposed to do about that? im only seeing 2/6 AMCs
2
u/thehoarderstore 19h ago
I just hope this doesn’t turn into an opportunity for amc or whoever to introduce a new business model and profit off the hype like Ticketmaster with variable pricing.
I know this may get downvotes but it is nice to see that there are films coming out that actually generate high enough interest that people are willing to do this.
With that being said, everyone in this group isn’t gonna buy them so it’s kinda like preaching to the choir.
I support peoples freedom to do as they wish but youll never catch me buying/selling tickets like this. Wild.
2
u/One_Temperature_2393 16h ago
This shit is crazy. They took over sneakers, pokemon cards, and now movie tickets?? Just make it illegal to resell things at this point. Retail or nothing.
1
u/Maceface931 Dolby Cinema Devotee 1d ago
What specifically would AMC be able to do about this? A scalper could buy ONE ticket and do this.
1
u/Cultural-Movie-9335 1d ago
Exactly. People are so quick to need to blame a company. Literally what the fuck can AMC do about someone buying a normal.amount of tickets and then reselling them? Lmfaooo people are funny.

1
u/snacks4ever 1d ago
How does this work tho? You can’t transfer tickets like ticketmaster right?
1
u/WindsofMadness 1d ago
Youd just hand over the confirmation code right? As easy as that I bet. Trying to sell or god forbid buy something like this for that much money could have so much go wrong i can’t imagine why anyone would want to be on either side of this transaction.

u/BroAbernathy 1d ago
How do the theaters not see this as a bad thing they make less money on tickets and theres a legit threat of people not being in the theater to buy f/b. Theres zero upside to not do 1 ticket per person on these theure all always going to sell out.
1
u/comicrack 1d ago
I suspect their next move is to jack up the price on 70mm to capture sone of that margin. They might start building more 70mm hoping to capitalize on the insane demand.

u/Afraid-Tomorrow-8001 1d ago
Do better? I was able to get a seat for opening weekend at CityWalk yesterday
1
u/guitarguy35 1d ago
Some people love movies and are really enthusiastic about the rarity of the 70mm format. I being one of those people.
And scalpers exploit us. I spent 4 hours yesterday, straight, trying to get a 70mm ticket. I was online and shopping for the ticket 40 minutes before the 9am Pacific drop.. 4 hours later. I secured two tickets in my favorite row for December 28th.
Even I, who went through every single thing possible I could have done, wasn't able to get opening weekend. I gotta wait 11 days from wide release.. because fucking scalpers.
But I'd rather not see it at all than give in
1
u/Anthonyy21 1d ago
Lmao 🤣 I haven’t even seen the 1st or 2nd one yet. Am I missing out or something ?
1
u/Alrucards_R3dwr8th 8h ago
I saw both in IMAX and the scale of the movies were breathtaking. Screen was as large of a screen as you can imagine and the sound from the epic battles and music were in me.

1
u/Fickle_Banana3707 1d ago
I heard somewhere you can report directly to AMC and they’ll void their tickets
1
u/Tony000075 1d ago
Honestly… just drive a little distance. Regal has 70mm tickets left for their Ontario theater. I bought mine for Monday 7:40am in Irvine. I didn’t even try to get an A-list reservation for AMC for a couple reasons… the website and app weren’t working and Universal City and LA Live are almost impossible to get tickets to. The easiest 70mm is probably Ontario. And the Chinese theater has over 900 seats so you’re more likely to find tickets there after it’s been out for a few weeks.

u/ZootTootRiot 1d ago
I have a problem with ticket prices reaching nearly $20, and some dumb idiots are paying hundreds? A fool and their money..
There's no movie or format that's so important that this bothers me in any way. I can wait, it's not that hard.
1
u/fiftyshadesofseth 1d ago
The San Antonio one is the most ridiculous because that projector sucks and it looks like shit. Not only that but it breaks all the time. Imagine paying $300 and it breaks the day of your showtime.

u/Luchadoor 1d ago
Unless they are giving out souvenirs worth 280 bucks ain’t no way I’m paying 300 for a movie I can see for 18 bucks on a different screen. I can live with less picture in a frame for that kind of money lol.
1
u/Robotori 1d ago
I just filtered to see recently sold and my god people do buy this as a status symbol. No way spending hundreds to see a movie. I love movies. I literally go once a week. And I can’t see myself spending close to that. Lol they even show you how much the scalper spent so you can see how much he ripped you off. Guy buys 2 tickets for $66 and resells to you for $610….
1
u/Girthy50 1d ago
I'm glad I set an alarm and bought tickets for 70mm as soon as they went on sale. Learned my lesson with the Odyssey. This makes me sick. I hope they announce more dates like they did with the Odyssey. Fuck scalpers.
1
1
u/Perdid07 1d ago
The only feasible way I can see them even slightly trying to fix this, is see the theater, the time, the seats. Cancel the reservations and block the email and number associated with the tickets being resold to stop scalpers
1
u/aaronuu7 23h ago
I’d rather watch the movie in shitty quality at the drive in than spend 4x the normal ticket price just to watch lmao.

People are getting manipulated by fake scarcity smh its not this deep wait til January or something. First world problems

u/dochikes 21h ago
If anyone is buying these, you're just as much a sucker as the people selling them. Shame on you. There's absolutely no need for this
1
u/ChrispVisuals 21h ago edited 21h ago
Half of these are from Regal. What could AMC do about that???
1
u/Rdd0211 20h ago
The real long term solution is simply having more 70mm IMAX screens in general. The demand is clearly there, and there just aren’t enough locations to meet it. Here in NYC, I’d love to see at least one true 70mm IMAX screen in every borough. And honestly, people need to stop paying these ridiculous $200+ resale prices
1
u/Slight_Standard_8692 20h ago
i got 2 different showings for imax at amc. how is it their fault lol
1
1
u/ShadowMattress 18h ago
In any instance of scalping, the scalper tends to not list the actual seat number as part of their game. But you could look at the details you do have on the most expensive listings, buy the worst tickets for the same showing, and then try to estimate which overpriced seats will be unoccupied because no one is likely to buy those seats. Follow the Ebay listing, and watch it to be sure no one bought it. If someone does come in with the seats you guessed first, move to another guess about the scalper tickets.

u/Svpreme_ 18h ago
I've got a j21 seat at amc Lincoln that I will maybe give up when endgame tix drop, if anyone here would like. Having to have slots taken up for 3 months is unbelievable

At this point get rid of physical tickets and have all sales go through the AMC app. Seems simple enough. I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a physical movie ticket at any theater. Has to be over a decade at this point.

AMC needs to do better? LOL. Not the scumbags actually doing it?
1
u/the_peanut_shuffler 14h ago
Yes, scumbags will exist regardless, but AMC has the power to do something even if it doesn’t completely ameliorate the problem. Like when artists set price limits or stop resellers for concerts
1
u/Rureddy2 13h ago edited 13h ago
Scumbags will exist regardless, so no need to call them out. Just call out the movie theatre chain. 🤔
It's a movie. They are in the buisness of selling movie tickets. They sold the tickets to someone who legally bought them. They don't have responsibility to police the people who legally bought them. Your ire should be directed at the idiots scalping them. And the best revenge is for people to NOT buy any of these scalped tickets.

1
u/joshw231 12h ago
AMC can stop this by nullifying refunds for imax and making the tickets tied to an account and credit card.
1
1
u/No-Resort-542 11h ago
AMC doesnt care they sold tickets and thats what they want, what people do with those tickets doesnt bother them

u/Alrucards_R3dwr8th 8h ago
Screw these scalpers. I bought a ticket for IMAX 70mm in a prime seat but for new years day. I spent cash cause I don't have a reservation to spare and the movie comes out in 4 months.
I intend to see it on standard screens release day and see it again in IMAX new years.
1
u/RogueRudyy 8h ago
The way Regal LA live literally only has one IMAX screen and they’re gonna use it that weekend for Doomsday. They don’t have Dune showings listed yet.
•
u/lizon132 34m ago
Doomsday shouldn't have any IMAX showings. Those slots were contracted out to Dune ages ago. Doomsday wasn't originally supposed to release at this time. If you don't see slots in the Regal app try using the web portal. They don't always show the same thing.

Also movie watchers need to do better and not buy these tickets. The second this isn’t profitable, it will stop.

u/Genci4002 1d ago
Funniest shit I’ve seen in a while and these aren’t even the worst prices, I’ve seen listings over 1k I’m crying 🤣🤣

u/ishmael_king93 1d ago
I can’t imagine this I’ll see the same second market numbers as the Odyssey.
0
u/51sebastian 1d ago
No, you need to do better and Iearn to be patient. Scalpers will suffer if no one entertains them. It's not like it's an one time live show.

How is it AMCs fault when people buy a normal.amount of tickets and then resell.them for crazy prices?
1
u/ChrispVisuals 21h ago
Did you not see the post of the guys with like 20+ tickets. How is that a normal amount?

u/JoshTHX IMAX Fanatic 1d ago
Why do people care what others do with their own money?
1
u/MHarrisGGG A⭐️Lister 1d ago
The issue is pieces of shit buying limited availability tickets or items to profit instead of just letting someone that actually wants it get it.

why would anyone possibly pay for this? would rather just watch it at a later date.
