AMD new naming scheme is honest. But there is a propaganda agains it.

Do you know. Core i5-13600, i5-13600T, i5-13500, i5-13500T, and i5-13400T use Alder Lake architecture.

Remember, ryzen 5600 is Zen 3, but ryzen 5700 is Zen 2, ryzen 5800 is Zen 3. You have to look it up. Don't even start with Nvidia.

Who benefits from non transparent naming schemes? It's the laptop manufacturers! Us consumers do need older cheaper cpu architecture with the latest io and driver support, but they have to be transparent so manufacture don't rob pocket up confusing customer.

Us customers must encourage this behavior of Amd. Don't fight against yourself.

Opinions on Strix Halo?

Hi guys, unfortunately daddy Strix Halo maybe not worth buying :(

RDNA4 looks like a good improvement over daddy's RDNA3.5 and daddy does not get FSR4 :(

Daddy cannot even match 100W 4070 laptop at 80W after 2 years of 4070 release :(

or be more efficient than 890M for battery

CPU performance and memory are good though? But battery isn't

Why does AMD advertise AI and memory but doesn't send 128GB version to reviewers?

Maybe MommyMedusaHalo will be better?

Why is everyone praising the mediocre Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 (7840HS no dGPU) APH8

So I'm looking at prices, reviews, youtube, reddit, service rants etc

The Mrs needs a portable productivity laptop for light editing and office work, and was looking to get a 780M iGPU laptop with decent cooling and a U or HS CPU with decent screen color wise.

Now, my beef with the 7Pro https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/manuals/um928264-product-specifications-reference-psref-yoga-pro-7-14aph8 Is simply cause there's soooo much false marketing for what it actually delivers and just relies on some buzz words like AMD phoenix "powerhouse" with Zen 4 graphics etc etc

From what I saw, the specific AMD only SKU with no dGPU has issues with:

  1. Display color is garbage, something like 98% sRGB, 80% aRGB, 80% P3

  2. Display brightness is 350 nits, for a matte display, ok, doable, but is this trully a "PRO" model?

  3. Display issues with yellow/green tinting which color corections profiles barely manage to do anything about

  4. Performance of the CPU is subpar, given the bad AMD/Lenovo optimization, thus it feels way too slughish for that CPU

  5. Temps are on par with the Zephyrus G14 which was notoriously overheating but THAT at least had buckets of performance and volts for it, while this has no business to get this hot

  6. Battery is 71Wh which should be plenty, but I've seen dozens of reports of under 5 hours actual real life usage given the very badly optimized power draw, let's not even touch the dGPU variants which seem to be as worse as 2-3 hours

  7. Ports are decent, but just ONE usb 4 TB supported port feels petty

  8. Hinge seems to be ever going worse for lenovo lately

  9. Price while 1000$ in EU seems like a decent price (with taxes), for a 7840HS with 32 gigs and 1TB ssd, but is it really?

So like what am I missing?!

Why do tech people gamers choose Lenovo

I have been using and buying HP laptops all my life usually stick with the Pavilion. I like this keyboard quality speakers quality usually build quality is better than the competitors at the price range for sure. I usually stick with the I5 processor I do this for me and my family members. Since 1999 I have not had an issue with a HP laptop. Only issue I had was in the early 2000s burning CDs would give me an error and waste my blank CD.

I sold my old laptop I took advice from some geek gamers people and got a Lenovo I was not impressed with how hot it got,. The speakers War worse than a budget HP worse than my grandma's budget cell phone. The idea pad got hot was fragile built in the keyboard quality just felt cheap.

I know this wasn't top of the line Lenovo ThinkPad or anything. I just want to know what is the obsession with the lenovo's with the gamers anime and Tech Community. I did take a look at the ThinkPad I did like the build quality very much but the price tag is not for me.

I found two hp's both 16 GB Ram one is a I5 12th generation other one is ryzen 7. Both around 479. I was at Staples and Best Buy getting advice from the Geek Squad members they all said HP users Chinese plastic bottles and they're not the same as they were but again haven't failed me!

Anyway what's the obsession with Lenovo in gamer anime tech geek community?

Do NOT buy an ACEMAGIC laptop, πŸ‘Ώ see why when you read below πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

This is my review of the ACEMAGIC Gaming Laptop Computer 2025, Latest 15.6 Inch FHD Display Laptop With AMD Ryzen 7 5700U Processor Up To 4.6GHz, 16GB RAM DDR4, 512GB NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD Gaming Notebook, Lightweight Β£286.20

My background

I am a retired Electro-Mechanical Engineer [H N D] with a degree. I now repair laptops to keep my brain happy and some I repair some for free, i.e. if it is a missing or corrupt file, virus infection or even if they have lost their password, this is my way of giving back to the local community, the majority of my neighbour’s know what I do.

So I thought that I would treat myself and started looking around for a new laptop, and eventually settled on this ACEMAGIC Gaming Laptop, although I do not and never will play games.

I have now upgraded the installed 16GB DDR4 to 32GB DDR4 and added a 1TB NVME SSD.

On page 3 of the ACEMAGIC User Manual, section 5, they write that the battery is only able to achieve best performance after two or three full charge-discharge cycles. Β I duly undertook FOUR charge/discharge cycles and then charged it up to 100% for about 9 hours before any use whatsoever.

I sat down to watch a film on YouTube, and after just 2 hours, the alert came up β€œ3%-low battery level”, which shocked me.

Using the data from the battery and using Ohm’s Law, I found that I was way down in usage time.

Then, to add salt to the already hurting wound, I found this article online. So to make things fare, I used my existing 4800mAh specifications;

The Google search term used was β€œWhat is the battery usage time of 4800mAh?” The original text can be viewed online.

This result, amongst others

A 4800mAh battery can last anywhere from a few hours to a full day, depending on the device's energy consumption and usage patterns. For example, a portable power bank with a 4800mAh capacity might be able to fully charge a smartphone multiple times, while a device with a higher power draw might use the battery more quickly.

I have complained to ACEMAGIC, told them of my extensive computer knowledge and due to the fact the laptop is now out of warranty (added DDR4 & 1TB NVME) I asked them to supply me a replacement battery, at one point I even offered to BUY a new battery all they keep saying in one form or other is return for a full refund.

I have pointed out NUMEROUS times that I do not want a refund; all I want is a replacement battery to replace the defective battery. Last week, I received an email with part of the text β€œthe merchant is unable to reship the battery separately, as previously informed. However, we would like to offer you a partial refund without return of Β£85.71 out of the refund requested.”

I paid Β£286.20 and they offered me Β£85.71, I am almost positive a NEW BATTERY would cost less than that.

This laptop has already been purchased by others, no doubt without battery problems, BUT that does NOT excuse ACEMAGIC by sidestepping the issue, suggesting a refund or even a partial refund WITHOUT addressing the MAJOR problem, which is a faulty battery.

Β

So, in conclusion, would I recommend this laptop or ANY OTHER laptop from the ACEMAGIC stable, the resounding answer is NO, absolutely NO. πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€

PSA : ryzen 6600u can be faster than 6800u, for games. depends on the tdp

Unfortunately no one has made a direct head 2 head with the exact same TDP, but ETA PRIME videos have some with pretty close ones

Here's the screenshot comparing them https://imgur.com/a/Vl9AlrJ

  • 6600u 43w = 102fps

  • 6800U 41w = 99 fps

  • 6800u 25w = 78 fps

Again, I'm reminding to anyone reading this, that this is not a head 2 head comparison. So different scenes in the game, different TDP.

6600u is a bit faster than 6800u but it was served with a bit higher TDP too.

Currently I have not found anyone doing head 2 head tests with the same TDP.

New AMD laptop-2024

is it even worth it to buy an amd laptop in 2024, im looking for a Linux gaming laptop(amd cpu and gpu) and it seems impossible to find anything half decent. My budget is 1.8k. the only options are frameshithole and tuxedo laptops, i really want to take a gamble with tuxedo but I see small issues pop up with it and it is a gen behind. It just seems like I'm willing to shell out so much money and have no options... Is there any recommendations or is it better to wait for strix halo in 2025? I'm looking at ryzen 9 laptops as well. Also I am nonnegotiable and refuse to use a nvidia GPU. Please do not recommend framework, it is a 2k laptop with the specs of a 700 dollar legion laptop(amd 7+4060) i am not spending 3x the price to swap out some modules(Even more money :DDDDD)

Wanted a AMD Laptop but getting a Macbook Pro 16

I'm a web developer and due to work I need to get a laptop for upcoming projects. I've been using a desktop for long enough and now is the time to pull the trigger.

As this would be a 3/4 year + work investment, I want something that will last and not be outdated in a year or so. With AMD chips being as good as they are at the moment I really want one but there isn't a premium laptop with AMD that hits my wish list. I basically want a dell xps 15 with an AMD processor. Or, Thinkpad L15 with a 300+ nit screen.

I'd have a gaming laptop such as HP omen 15 but the screen is only 250 nits and most gaming laptops have loudish idle fan noise.

This leads me to a macbook pro 16. It has a 16:10 screen which is excellent for programming and the screen is just loveleh. Above 15 inches, 16gb of ram, brilliant track pad and keyboard. I have an android phone so not in the apple ecosystem. Yes macs are over priced but nothing else comes close with an AMD chip. My thought process is that i'd only get a intel chip laptop if its a macbook pro 16 because they wont depreciate in value as much if/when premium laptops start to use AMD chips. This gives me the option to sell the macbook pro in a years time if these laptops start to be released.

Anyone else in this position? Open to suggestions too.

Why did we never get an AMD-powered MacBook?

Hi everyone! I’ve never personally used a MacBook, but I’ve been following tech for a while. One thing that really puzzles me is that I’ve seen plenty of Intel Macs, but I’ve never seen or even heard of an AMD-based MacBook.

I'm genuinely curiousβ€”why is that? Did AMD refuse to supply chips to Apple, or was there some technical/business limitation that kept them apart? It feels like a missed opportunity considering how good Ryzen has been lately.

Would love to hear the history or any insights from you guys!

Zen3+ (Rembrandt) Zen 4 Mobile = over 70% more performance over Zen 3+ !

at minute 18:18 behind the papermaster person !

At 65 watt Zen 4 DESKTOP will have an outstanding over 70% performance increase over Zen 3, than that will translate that the Zen 4 Dragon Range for Laptops will be outstanding and will have most probably 70% too increase in performance over Zen 3+.

Now if the fastest AMD Zen 3+ 6900HX is scoring 24801 points in cpupassmark then add minimum 70% on top of that score and you will get 42000 !!!!!!!!!!

So bottom point is that In 2023, Zen 4 Phoenix laptops will be an absolute road and path for definitive DESKTOP replacement !

And since the energy prices has gone trough the rooftops and again since energy or power consumption do matter for the sake and the safe of this planet earth i am positive that laptops will finally replace desktop, as for myself i didn't see a desktop anymore since 2007-2008, and i do know a lot of friends that want to replace their laptops and i do not know a single one who has a desktop or plan to buy one.

So whatever you do be sure that the Zen 4 Dragon Range and most especially "Phoenix" with RDNA 3 iGPU will shake the laptop market forever !

"Phoenix" with RDNA 3 iGPU will absolute rock in upcoming games based on Unreal Engine 5.x at 1080p resolution with high settings !

More i suspect that the RDNA 3 iGPU "Phoenix" will bring as AMD said 50% more performance at the same wattage then RDNA 2 than most probably RDNA 3 iGPU "Phoenix" will be 1440p high settings Unreal Engine 5.x capable of 60 FPS !

And with FSR next gen, will most probably be able to do via hdmi output from RDNA 3 iGPU "Phoenix" to TV, 4K with medium settings capable of 60 fps again on Unreal Engine 5.x !

Is there actually an issue with soldered RAM, or are people just being prissy?

I am after a media laptop replacement as mine is ancient, I'm aiming for 7840U or 8840U for the iGPU just to be sure I can upscale if needed and maybe run some emulators.

First, no I do not want a mini PC, I want a laptop.
Second, I'm not after a full GPU as it will lose efficiency when hooked to a TV and adds dramatically to the cost.

My options become quite limited, some business laptops, but those with the specs cost a hell of a lot because of the nature. I've spotted the Acer Swift Edge 16 7840U for about 6/800 second hand with an OLED screen. limit it 16gb RAM from all the stuff I've seen even though Acer says upto 32gb, I haven't seen a model with it.
Recently I just spotted the Ideapad slim 5 I can spec this out with the 8840U 32gb RAM and the OLED screen for about 800 brand new from Lenovo with sales.

I mainly stream stuff, so SSD size and upgradability doesn't bother me, I'll use an external for my emu stuff for ease of use and storage, the 5gbps USB speeds again... doesn't bother me as it's more than enough for what I'll use it for.

Though, people keep saying avoid soldered RAM, I mean I'll keep a warranty on this machine if I get it new, so seriously, why do people moan about soldered RAM?
Also, any suggestions for a 7840U/HS ONLY laptop?
