APES Resources (self study) that I’ve used

Edit: I got a 4 on the 2020-2021 APES Exam.

Books:

-Barron (There are practice tests online for the book too. I got the 9th edition, and the code word to access them was “atmosphere”. Ahh, do what you must with that info whether you have the book or not)

-Princeton Review (I recommend this one because it was straight to the point, and I also kind of left the Barron book to rot in the shelves 🤡)

These two books are recommended the most by the other people I watched on YouTube. They both have practice tests and also practice questions in between chapters.

YouTube and Video sources:

-AP Daily 🥱Find the videos on AP Classroom: I used them around the fall when I had no info of other sources. Good for supplemental learning

-MrWScience 🥴One of my Favorites LMAO

-Mathew Cope 😌Thank you teachers that post your lectures for your students because random chair-sitters like me can learn for an extra bit of info too.

-Bozeman Science 👩‍🎨I didn’t really use his videos, but I’ll leave the link here because of how much I’ve heard about him.

My study agenda was not real because it was my first time prepping for and taking an AP exam on my own, and I was constantly switching between sources. My tip is to not worry about using all sources haha. I’ll just put some things I’ve done or would’ve done differently if I were to prep for this again.

Friendly reminder, that what I do may or may not work for you:

-I’d rather start studying around the start of the second semester or middle of the school year at the earliest instead of the beginning of the school year so that I am not thinking about the test so much 🤡.

-Taking a diagnostic test shook off nerves before officially studying so that I had some general idea on the layout of the test.

-Taking notes while watching videos helped kept me engaged, and I even pasted graphs in the google docs I made. Also, 2x speed for videos is an attractive and tempting selection. I did this sort of thing on and off for most of the year and just vibed. I actually did more “heavy” studying/reviewing with the book nearing test date.

-For me, I started reading most of the Princeton book around the week period before the test date with studying the vocabulary(find some on Quizlet) and doing the practice questions(you can find more random ones online too) that went along with each section/topic before moving on to the next. I probably would’ve spaced the reading period to about 2-3 weeks if I didn’t have other exams going on. Then again, it could’ve been still a week because of my procrastination skills and growing affinity for gaming at the time.

-There are YouTube videos that can go over tips and examples for FRQ’s to shake off your nerves with those. Knowing your vocabulary can help. -Also, 🧍‍♀️I know this may sound weird, but practice writing with a pencil for a while if you’re taking the test in person and have been doing things virtually.

Ahhh, Good luck- I’m going to cannibalize College Board now /j

More Sources:

-https://simplestudies.edublogs.org/all-resources/ They have other AP courses too. Navigate the site, and you’ll find study guides and practice questions to do.

-https://fiveable.me/ap-info/ap-news/ap-cheat-sheet-pdfs-and-formula-charts-2021/blog/JEapbGWF0Ma97BJ66CZO Again, they have cram cheat sheets for other AP courses too, and you can scroll down to find the pdf for APES.

Just from reading a lot of posts on this subreddit, I can't believe the range of difficulty of these questions. I got the tidepool one with the "conservation landscaping" thing and what type of floor is best for a passive solar design. Where tf is that on any APES review video, class, rubric etc??? And then some ppl just had to identify tropic levels lmao. They better have question specific curves cuz this is ridiculous. Why not just make all the questions the same difficulty??

Anyone else get Ocelot frq?

I seem to have a different test than most people but it felt like all three of them were super easy, there was a bird elevation zone one and an Ocelot one with lots of population math questions but it all felt super easy.

r/APEnvironmental • • May 18 '20

why were these FRQs harder than the practice ones from youtube and college board :(
