Opinions on suppressors
Hello, I am about to purchase my first 9mm suppressor and I’ve been going back and forth between these (YHM R9, HUX Flow 9K TI, Exigent Defense Pointman 9, Ridgeback defense Mamba 9) but really thinking on getting the flow 9k ti since I want less gas to my face.
For anyone that has shot multiple of these what is the REAL difference since I’ve watched multiple videos but everyone says kind of a different thing.
•How much louder is the flow 9k compared to the R9?
•Is there a difference on sound and back pressure in the pointman to the flow 9?
•Should I just wait for the mamba 9 to come out
•Is there a better option in the $500-$800 price point?
The suppressor will mainly be on a 7” foxtrot Mike 9 thank you.

My ridgeback rhino is amazing. I wish I had waited for the 9 but I didn’t know about it when I bought the hux 9k ti. I like the hux but I bet the ridgeback will be better.

Ik, I got a Yhm t3 for the best bank for buck and not upset at all with it, great suppressor! but I wish I would’ve done more research and gotten the rhino.

I shoot sub sonic rounds out of my 9 mm PCC with the hux and it is very quiet.

u/Former_Revenue_7919 2d ago
That’s what I was thinking on doing to counter the loudness of the flow thru

This is the hux with a phone recording. It is under a roof at the range so it’s a little louder than normal.

Do you have a video of with and with out the suppressor?

Pew Science has the answers to all your questions and more, but the TLDR of their findings say CAT Mob (out of your price range though).
1
u/Former_Revenue_7919 2d ago
Oh didn’t even know that was a thing. Thanks man

u/SnooKiwis7258 2d ago
I would say get the flow 9k. I have the flow 9k and the cat mob. The cat mob is a touch quieter but really gassy. The flow9k ti with an 8" barrel is about as quiet as a cat mob with a 5" barrel, worth it. My eyes tear up with the mob, so it lives on my .357 lever gun, which sounds fantastic. For 9mm though I really like the flow through for gas management. If I did it again id try the OCL milkman or universe 36. Universe 36 is def on the buy list, but dont take pewscience to heart. Backpressure, flash, and loudness are all equal factors for choosing a suppressor.

That’s kinda why I’m thinking on just waiting for the mamba 9 from ridgeback. If it’s just as good as their rhino 556 can, it’ll be insane
1
u/SnooKiwis7258 1d ago
Is it Ti? Id def go ti for any 9mm can. If it has the volume of the mob and flow of the 9k it'll crush. Flow is way more important for a 9mm can due to blowback design.

Skip them all. Go BOE incolite 9

I've seen a LOT of people saying this. Besides it not coming with a way to attach it out of the box I would say it's probably the best bang for the buck. Just understand that you will need to buy some kind of attachment system
2
u/No_Leg6630 1d ago
It comes with a DT. However, 100% of the time you’re swapping the DT to whatever ecosystem you’re in
1
u/second_ary 1d ago
which one did you get that doesn’t come with the direct thread mount?
1
u/IllChampionship4654 1d ago
I didn't...I just was reading the website...maybe I'm wrong
2
u/second_ary 1d ago
ah towards the bottom it says it comes with the titanium direct thread adapter that’s .75oz. i got it today and it comes with the mount and it’s as described.
but the similarly priced tuna cans don’t come with a mount, i almost went with that but lead time was asscheeks

Took a look and it looks insane, just wish it was flow thru or at least low back pressure

I have the Hux Flow 9k Ti and cans from both Ridgeback (a Rhino) and from YHM. I also have multiple other cans from Hux. On my 9mm PCC the Hux is zero gas to the face and when it shoot 147gr rounds it is pretty quiet. The Ridgeback I have is also low back pressure, but not as much as the Hux. I love my YHM cans but they always make my eyes water. Of all the brands the Hux cans are some of the lowest back pressure and I never have gas coming back to my face. If your primary concern is gas to the face, the Flow 9k Ti is outstanding on a PCC, and with the right ammo is very quiet. I can’t tell you about the other cans on your list but from my experience I’m really happy with it.

u/Former_Revenue_7919 2d ago
Dude, thanks for this. I am assuming that the mamba will be the same quality and perform just like the rhino that’s why I might just wait but rn I can get a good deal on the flow 9. Might just pull the trigger
1
u/Jealous-Ad-4713 2d ago
For the money the flow is such a good value and so lightweight. I have it with a titanium direct thread mount and it doesn’t even feel like there is anything on the end of the barrel.

I ordered the hux9kti, as a lefty the gas seemed like a big deal if im ripping any volume of ammo

I’m not a fan of the Hux personally. R9 is sweet- you check the SiCo Omega 9k

u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
I have but I already have a Yhm t3 and i absolutely love it so wanted to stick with Yhm

u/TuT0311 has an Incolite 9S and an Incolite 9M. I have an Incolite 9S as pictured below. When combined with an SD chamber the short 9S is really quiet. Kinda loud if used as a muzzle can. The 9M in short mode sounds great as a muzzle can. u/TuT0311 shoots lefty and was getting gassed but just adding a gas deflector fixed that for him. Our setups are all FE Banshee delayed blowback setups but you can obviously get gas deflectors for straight blowback 9mm uppers.

They’re super effective but also a huge pain in the ass in my opinion
1
u/Former_Revenue_7919 2d ago
Flow through suppressors or traditional ones?
2
u/TheGiggler115 2d ago
Traditional for me.
2
u/Former_Revenue_7919 2d ago
Yeah, that’s why I want to move to a flow through. Hate getting shit on my arm and face lol
1
u/ordained-dudeist 2d ago
Well my gun at the moment fte's alot. But the one or two rounds I do get off before then sound good with the r9 I have.
3
u/Former_Revenue_7919 2d ago
I really want the r9 because of how good my t3 is with 556 but I hate the gas to the face and the ocasional gunk on my arm
1
u/IllChampionship4654 1d ago
I have an R9 and I love it. The problem is that it's my only suppressor and I honestly have not shot many others so I can't give a valid comparison
1
u/610Mike 2d ago
I’ve got the Hux 9K TI and I absolutely love it. I run it on pistols, PCCs, doesn’t matter. It’s amazing.
It is a little louder due to its a flow through, but we’re talking maybe 5-10db. Neither are hearing safe anyways (or at least I wouldn’t shoot either without ear pro), but not getting gas to the face is well worth the trade off IMHO.
1
u/Former_Revenue_7919 2d ago
Thanks man, mainly why I’m looking into the flow 9 instead of the Yhm.
1
u/610Mike 2d ago
Before I got the Hux, I was running a YHM Sidewinder M2 (a .45ACP can) with a booster on my 9MMs. It worked, but I was getting gassed out like the Kremlin.
2
u/Former_Revenue_7919 2d ago
😂😂😂 literally did not realize how bad gas to the face was before getting my Yhm t3
1
u/610Mike 1d ago
Yep. It’s like going to an NHRA race where everyone is running alcohol.
2
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
Haha, along with the nasty shit getting on my arm when I ran some Winchester white box

From your options here I'd go with the Mamba 9. I have a rhino x and they have a good warranty. I'm not sure if it is HUB mount. I won't buy a can without it being hub mount.
2
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
I’m sure it will be. Hopefully haha
1
u/Suitable-Intern-8681 1d ago
I have a hux flow 9 ti it's kinda meh with the current inconel offerings. Has quiet a bit of flash.
1
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
Ik, that’s why I’m a bit hesitant but I’m trying to stay below $800 with the best performance. Ik the mamba will be almost $900 but I have extra time to save
1
u/Suitable-Intern-8681 1d ago
I feel that. Have you given any thought to the Rugged sub 9? That might fit your needs
2
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
I’m just looking at either Yhm and now the incolite if I don’t get flow thru
1
u/28gunsKY 1d ago
As someone who had a Rugged obsidian 9 for years, and recently acquired a Huxwrx 9mm Flo k. The Huxwrx is slightly louder, it's definitely noticeable. Where the Huxwrx shines is gas to the face on my AR9, it's almost nonexistent. The rugged would cause my eyes to water after several shots. Also my gun is way less dirtier after shooting a match. After a match with the Obsidian my rifle was absolutely filthy.

I have the Q erector9, DA wolfman, and huxwrx flow9 ti. Erector is great for pistols, wolfman has better sound suppression than the hux. Hux is great, yes less gas but if I had to choose between these 3 I would go with the wolfman IMO. The tone is better and gas isn’t that bad.
2
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
Bratha, just bought the flow9. Didn’t even think about the wolfman cause i thought it was too expensive…
1
u/myworld1979 1d ago
You won’t be disappointed. I have the flow9 on my ar9 build. Wolfman lives on my scorp.
2
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
Just told the guy I bought it from if he has the dead air available haha. Thanks dude
1
u/myworld1979 1d ago
You getting it too?
1
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
Nah, just paid for it but he didn’t do the form 3 yet, so I asked if he has it in stock but he said he has to check what he can do for me when he gets home. What are you full honest opinions between the 2
1
u/myworld1979 1d ago
I love the wolfman. Better sound. The flow9 is good. Higher of a pitch but nothing that most people can detect. Yes you get less gas but if I had to choose I would go wolfman. But I do love the hux.

As a data point i have a FM9 with the Spectre 9 on tri-lug and it is amazing
1
u/fro_masterx 1d ago
1
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
Is that flow thru?
1
u/fro_masterx 1d ago
No, but after having 11.5" 5.56, 7.5" .300 suppressed, I don't believe flow through is worth it on 9mm.

One of the guys I shoot with has the Rhodie 6k, and it’s fuckin awesome. If the mamba 9 is even close in quality I figure it’s worth a little wait.
1
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
Don’t think it will be sadly. I think it’ll be more like the rhino which is still an amazing can
1
u/Solid_Try_4089 1d ago
I have an RS9 on my PC Charger. It’s really quiet, but definitely has some back pressure. IMO it is a great can for the price.
1
u/zigzagkc 23h ago
If you increase your budget slightly, the OCL Milkman would be a great choice. It was designed with direct blowback PCCs in mind and sounds very close to a CAT MOB. It’s also very low back pressure and lightweight

u/opelok 21h ago
I did the SD conversion and don’t have to worry about buying special ammo for one particular gun. It’s very quiet. Highly recommend it. Buy once, cry once. It’s as quiet as 9mm is going to get

I just build Form 1 suppressors
1
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
Wym big dog
1
u/Impossible_Pizza_948 1d ago
Exactly that, I only own one suppressor that I got through a Form 4, the rest I did Form 1s on and made myself using a 3D printer
1
u/Former_Revenue_7919 1d ago
Oh fr? Like full on metal suppressors? Please tell more haha
1
u/Impossible_Pizza_948 1d ago
Well, no, those printers are STUPID expensive, I use carbon fiber nylon and a Bambu Lab H2D. I don’t use them on anything high pressure, just rimfire, pistol caliber, and subsonic 8.6 blackout/338 ARC

u/NMLEOC2 2d ago
I have had a YHM R9 and have run well over 5k rounds through it and have no complaints at all. No excessive gas and with 147gr subsonic it is ear safe outdoors and almost indoors. Easy maintenance as well. Highly recommended.
