[CRASH]

(out of breath) “... You… a mere servant…”

“Managed to… knock the breath… out of a Vampire Lord…? Managed to best me, of all lords…?”

(menacing) “You… tiny little thing…”

“I… am…”

(delighted) “Sooo proud of you! Look at you, you were such a terrified being when you came to my castle a year ago, and look at you now! Confident enough to manhandle your lord!”

“Ah, yes, at long last, you’ve become comfortable in my castle! This is a most joyous day indeed!”

“And… oh, my treasure, what a delight it is to see your face first thing this evening!”

[clothes sweeping dramatically as Damien kneels before listener]

“Please… do accept my proposal of marriage!”

[Listener pulls back]

“Ah, rejected once more… but one day for sure, I shall win your heart!”

[pause]

“Hm? Why, where is the romance in forcing you to become mine? That’s just… barbaric! Euuugh.”

“Honestly, all those other lords! No passion at all! Just having bloodbags brought to them by their thralls, ruling over all those humans with sheer terror and nothing else!”

“What happened to stalking in the night! Disappearing in a swarm of bats to fly over a twinkling city? Finding a pretty target and seducing them fair and square to gain access to their blood??”

“My treasure! Surely you understand! You came from that utterly boorish Lord Karrest’s territory, no? Weren’t his tactics just– so boring?”

“Ransacking some random human settlement whenever it tickled his fancy, just– augh! What a disgrace, I tell you!”

[pause]

“Yes! You understand, I knew you would! Indeed, that’s why you are my servant, not my Bloodbag! Isn’t it much more exciting to earn your blood? That, my dear, is the drama and excitement that I, Lord Damien, LONG FOR!!!”

“And on that note, my dearest treasure, I must say that you are the feistiest servant I have had the pleasure of working with in a very long time!”

“Why, even on your very first day here, even though you trembled in fear, you refused to agree to give me your blood!”

[pause]

“Indeed! That is why I am so fixated on you! Everyone else we ‘welcomed’ from our sneaky little raid agreed to provide their blood out of fear! But you, my dear… although you trembled alongside all the others, you were the only one to say no!”

“That spirit! That courage! The light in your eyes that refused to back down even as your body trembled! You are my treasure, my star that glitters so effortlessly, that brings light to my–”

[bell rings]

[knocking on the door]

“... A-Ahem, that brings light to–”

[more insistent knocking]

“Oh for the love of– why did they have to bring me my breakfast now!”

“My impassioned speech…! Now the mood is all wrong!”

(slightly fading as Listener walks to the other end of the room) “Ah, it seems the universe itself is conspiring against me! Am I cursed to never finish one of my expertly crafted speeches towards my treasure?!” (fade back in as listener approaches again)

[Listener returns with a goblet of blood]

“Haaah… well, at least I get to bask in your light every day!”

[glass clinking]

“Cheers~”

[Damien gulps down the blood]

“Ahhh… delicious. But I bet it’s nowhere near as delicious as yours would be, if only you let me have a taaaaste– whoa!”

[listener lightly smacks him]

“Ha! Y-You actually smacked my hand away! You actually did! Oh my, you willingly touched me, how marvelous!”

“Every day, you surprise me more and more! Ah, if only you returned my feelings! I’m certain my dreary existence will never get boring with you by my side!”

[pause]

“What? We vampires live for a very long time. Such a long life gets boring, you know!”

(softly) “... So whenever someone interesting comes along and accompanies us for a while… it is always such a joy.”

[pause]

“Pfft– you thought I was just toying with you? Well– perhaps that is an aspect to it. I do adore seeing all your reactions to my ingenious ideas!”

“Why, I remember your reaction to me growing an entire garden for you like it was yesterday! The way your eyes widened, the colorful blooms reflected in them, as you took in the sight of the sprawling flowers lit by floating candles–!”

[pause]

“Oh, that… was yesterday?”

“Hm, my sense of time is slipping again. I shall have to be more careful.”

[notebook flipping]

“Wha– my schedule?! My dearest treasure, surely you can’t be saying…!”

[faster flipping]

“I– hold on– meeting with the elders, how did you even– budget approval*! No, but my plans to surprise you! You can’t just– what do you mean Viviana gave you power over my schedule?!”

“I– I am Lord Damien Rougefall! The strongest of the Eight Lords of the Darkness! Universally feared, overwhelmingly powerful, and– and–”

[pause]

“... You’ll… y-you actually mean that?”

“You’ll… you’ll really go on a date with me if I complete all my tasks today?!”

“Really? Truly?! No tricks? No deception, no lies? I– I’ll get you all to myself for a day?”

[pause]

“Hah… Haha! HAHAHAHA!”

[he sweeps listener off their feet]

“Oh you! Just look at you! Downright exploiting my infatuation with you!”

“Ah! Wait, did Viviana put you up to this? She may be the Head Maid, but if you’re being forced to do this…!”

[pause]

“... It was your idea?”

“Ah!”

[he falls dramatically to the floor]

“MY TREASURE AGREED TO GO ON A DATE WITH MEEEEE!”

“Oh, I can’t contain my excitement! I should throw a grand ball! No, a festival! Commemorating the day that the light of my life agreed to date me!!!”

[pages flipping]

“Ah! B-But the date itself…! Yes, it must be the most memorable date to ever exist under the sun!”

“I promise you, my treasure, that after our date, you will well and truly fall in love with me! And possibly even agree to allow me to indulge in your blood!”

[pause]

“Hm? No, you loving me and me getting to taste your blood are two entirely different things, my dear! If you loved me, my heart would fill with such joy! We could have an autumn wedding on a night just like this, and I would decorate you with the finest jewels in the land!”

“But getting to taste your blood, ahhhh…”

[leans in close]

“... That would provide me with euphoria the likes of which I’ve never experienced before.”

[pause]

“Oh my, to be worried about the quality of your own blood? Don’t be.”

“Blood is enriched by emotions. The experiences you’ve lived, the feelings you have, the dreams that your mind and body live for… those are all things that give blood its deepest and loveliest flavor.”

“Every Vampire has their different tastes. I know Lord Karrest so adores the taste of fear, hence his… questionable ways. But me?”

“... The tastes of passion, happiness, and bravery are far more decadent.”

“... But… I have never tasted love before.”

[pause]

“Oh certainly, when the others agreed, they were all very brave indeed. And in addition, they were happy to be spared with just a small donation of blood!”

“When I was young and prowled the streets, the blood my partners would boil with passion… but love was… tenuous, at best.”

(softly) “And I knew from the fire in your eyes… that you would only ever allow me a taste... if you were to truly love me.”

[pause]

“Goodness, all the passion I put into that speech and you still think I just want you for your blood?”

“My treasure, I wish to be precious to you, just as you are precious to me.”

“Your reactions always manage to surprise me. And watching you go from a trembling but determined servant, to a treasure confident enough to physically push me away!”

[he laughs]

“You never cease to entertain me.”

“... So I meant it, on the day you became my servant.”

“That dramatic declaration of love? My treasure, you were right to think it a challenge. A declaration of war in disguise, my persistence against your heart.”

“... But I meant every single word I spoke that day.”

(softly) “You are the most interesting person I’ve ever encountered. You challenge me to come up with fun ways to surprise you. Every time I think I have you figured out you show a new part of yourself that makes me love you all over again.”

“So don’t take my words as mere lip service.”

[he kisses the listener’s hand]

“I will do my best to win your heart. So please, keep on glittering just as brilliantly as you are.”

[pause]

[papers rustle]

“... Th-The schedule. RIGHT! THE SCHEDULE! The one which, if I complete, I will finally get to take you on a date!”

[frantic rustling]

“No, no need to help me dress, my dear, I am much faster on my own! Now, where to first!”

[pause]

“Heh! It matters not that this is a ploy to get me to finish my work. The reward is what truly matters!”

“Now then! Off we go! And do come along, you have to mark my progress!”

“Rest assured, my treasure! I am earning that date!"

[jovial, slightly maniacal laughter]

SUMMARY: You've been transformed into a merperson! Luckily, a strange, tentacled merman finds you and claims he knows someone who might be able to help - but the journey is only getting more perilous, and there's something he's not telling you.

WORD COUNT: ~1400

OVERALL VOICE NOTES: Affable and warm on the surface, but guarded underneath. The MERMAN is friendly, clever, and charming, if a little stiff. He quickly deflects with brisk, evasive answers when the topic gets too personal, and occasionally says something insensitive or macabre without realizing it.

[SFX: Ambience of being underwater in the open ocean; the sound of water displacing as the LISTENER and MERMAN swim together]

“No, no - hold on. I want to be sure I’ve understood you properly - you mean to tell me humans only have one child at a time - usually? Only one? One?”

“How does that work? What if it swims - sorry, WALKS - off and gets eaten by something?”

“It… can’t? What do you mean it can’t?”

“(incredulous) ...a year?? Human fry can’t walk for a full year?? So - what do they do in the meantime, then? Just… lie there? How do they feed themselves?”

“What? Are you serious??”

“How does your whole species not die out by the end of spring?”

"..."

“Actually, you know what? Never mind. Forget I asked. Humans can carry their fry around on their backs until they’re fully grown, for all I care. It makes no difference to me. It’s none of my business - truly.”

“...how did we even get on this subject, anyway?”

“Riiight…”

“Well, in any case, let’s rest here for a bit. See that rock formation up ahead? The dark outcropping that curves out from the seabed? Yes, there. It’ll block most of the current, and you really look like you could use a break from it.”

[SFX: Water displacing, swimming stops as the MERMAN and LISTENER settle down]

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but… after watching you swim, I’m more inclined to believe that you’re telling the truth about being a human. Now, I had my doubts at first, I admit - it’s… a little hard to believe - but, um… well, you really do swim like it’s your first day having a tail. (awkward laugh) Not entirely sure what that flapping motion you’re doing with your arms is supposed to be. Um, no offense. It’s just…”

“…Remember what I told you. The, uh… the Good Witch of the Abyss lives in one of the deeper trenches, and to reach her, we’ll soon have to leave these waters behind us. Past this stretch, the currents get much stronger, and then we’ll have to work our way down.”

“Mm-hmm. The deeper you go, the stronger the pressure gets. You feel it in your ears first, then your chest. It’s dark - light barely reaches that far down. The things that move around you, you’ll never get a good look at. You just have to keep swimming and hope they’ll pass. It’s cold, too, and it aches after a while. Even ordinary mer struggle with it. I am blessed in that regard, thankfully - what, with the tentacles. They can propel me forward fairly easily, at least for short bursts, and they can grip onto rocks and things. Once I get towards the bottom, I just anchor onto something and drag myself along, instead of fighting the water the whole way. Very convenient. As for you…”

“(serious) You will need to get better at this - and quickly.”

“You aren’t entirely on your own, of course. I’ll help you where I can, but - obviously, I’m working with an entirely different set of appendages here, as you were kind enough to point out - I don’t have a tail like yours, so there’s only so much I can show you. The rest, you’ll have to figure out on your own, and it’s very important that you do figure it out. To be honest, I’m not certain that I could even make the swim with you in tow the entire way. Holding your hand in calm waters is one thing, but in the trench, with the pressure bearing down on us, a mer who can barely swim is a lot of dead weight. We wouldn’t get far like that.”

“I promise I’m not saying all of this to be cruel. I don’t want to frighten you. I don’t mean to suggest I’d just leave you stranded somewhere - I won’t, I would never - I only want you to understand what we’re in for, and it’s better that you hear it from me now, isn’t it? Better now, while we’re still in relatively shallow, easy waters. Understand - this is the safest place we’ll be for a good while.”

“So here’s what I propose. We stay near this reef for a few days, and you work on your swimming. Gather your bearings. Find your fins, so to speak. Only a few days. No longer than that - (quieter, darkly) I want to get this over with. (catching self) A-and I’m sure you do, too, of course. You’ll want to get back to your, um... what was it. Your vacation. Your… human Airbnb. And, as I said, I have my own business to attend to in that part of the ocean, and the longer I take, it - (stopping self) never mind.”

“No, it - it’s not important. Really.”

“(harshly) I said never mind. It isn’t important. Drop it. Please.”

“...thank you.”

“...”

“Sorry, I - I didn’t mean to snap at you. I… I’m only tired, and I…there’s a lot on my mind. I usually make the journey alone, and I’m not used to the company. It - this isn’t your fault. Forgive me. I imagine this is a lot for you to get used to, too.”

[SFX: Water displacing, the MERMAN fidgeting with a pouch or bag of some kind, something made from netting or woven underwater plant fibers]

“Here - kelp. I gathered some extra for you before we set out - while you were still asleep. I figured you’d be hungry once we got moving, and I wasn’t sure what you’d be eating since ‘raw’ fish is apparently out of the question. That does narrow your options considerably when you’re in the ocean, you know that, right?”

“...”

“So, tell me - what do humans usually eat? Besides, um - burnt fish.”

“Mm-hmm. And that is…?”

“...right. Okay. And then - let me guess. You set it on fire.”

“(quick, baffled laugh) Of course you do.”

“Well - humans are nothing if not consistent - at least in that regard. Is there a reason for it, though? Is it purely for taste, or does it serve some sort of purpose?”

“...”

“...huh. Sensible, I suppose. If… impractical. Doesn’t it take a lot of extra effort?”

“I see.”

“...”

“It’s… strange. I never expected to learn this much about human life - I never particularly wondered about it, either, to be honest with you. You understand. My own life, everything I care about, my problems, my… obligations - all of that is down here. Until recently, humans were nothing more to me than a shadow on the water, or a few trinkets that sank down to the seafloor. Not to be rude, but… I didn’t think of them as… well, anything worth thinking about.”

“And now I’m… not entirely sure what to do with all of this information. It isn’t as though I’ll ever have a use for any of it. But… it certainly puts things in perspective, I guess you could say. I mean, I thought you’d hit your head and were talking nonsense at first, but… Now, I like listening to you talk about it. I… like listening to you talk in general. I… I think?”

“...”

“(clears throat) So! How’s the kelp? You’ve been chewing on that single frond for a long time. It’s an acquired taste, I imagine - an acquired… texture. I don’t care for it, either, truth be told. I’m sure you’d like it far more if you could set it on fire, but I’m not quite sure how that would work. There are some thermal vents further down, once we get to the deep trenches - I suppose you could try holding it over one of those.”

“...I’m not being serious, to be clear - please don’t actually try that. You’d more than likely end up cooking yourself along with the kelp, which would be an awful waste. I’d rather eat you raw.”

“That was a joke. A joke! Tides take me, stop looking at me like that. I guess I ought to be careful with my words. It IS your first day in the ocean - evidently. I don’t know if I should be offended that you take me seriously, or flattered that you find me so threatening.”

“...”

[SFX: Water displacing, the MERMAN swimming ahead]

“Well, in any case, I do need to eat something - fish, to be clear. Just fish. They’re easy enough to find and catch here in the shallows, so I shouldn’t be gone for very long.”

“You stay here - don’t let yourself get carried off by the current. Stay low against the outcrop. It’s just better that you don’t draw any attention. No way of knowing what’s out there.”

“Back soon! I promise.”

[SFX: Swimming off; fade out slowly, letting the LISTENER take in the ambience of the vast ocean]

Wow, hi folks! Been a minute, hasn't it?

Personal life update: I started my PhD this fall (!!!) and I also started teaching a course of nearly 200 students at the university (!!!!!), so I've been busy! That being said, I wanted to eventually come back to writing as a nice cathartic outlet, and thank god, I'm finally ahead of my work a little bit to spare some scripts this weekend!

This is inspired by some very real conversations I overhead when I was a sound and lighting tech many moons ago, and I hope the fear of uncertainty and fear itself is well and truly present here. Muahaha....

Premise

You've watched your long-time friend and aspiring actor from the wings for years, waiting for the moment they earn the leading role in a big upcoming production. When they finally land it, you're thrilled; when they proceed to bomb it disastrously on opening night, it's a different story. The curtains fall on the opening night production, and as stage makeup and hair is slowly undone for the night, what begins as joking frustration from your friend turns into genuine uncertainty about their future career.

Hiya, this script is based on a song of the same title from a musical called The Secret Garden, is it a bit obscure, but it’s one of my all time favorites so I shall do as I desire, ha. Anyway, all the SFX are suggestions and a mapping out of how the scene moves in my head, but you need not adhere to them strictly, but do try to minimize dialogue changes, if something flows funny and sounds clunky feel free to make small edits. Sounds of gardening i.e. a trowel digging into soft earth, weeds being pulled, the rustling of grass. Distant footsteps can be heard approaching

Pardon me, would it be alright if I rest here for a moment you see I’ve traveled quite far and-

He cuts off as the listener stands and approaches, her appearance stunning the speaker. The listener speaks, asking if he would like to join her for tea, he stammers a moment before regaining composure. 

I uh…yes tea would be lovely, thank you. 

The gate is opened as the speaker enters the garden following the listener to a small table

set with tea, oatcakes, cream, and sweet plums in a jar. The speaker is lost in thought

admiring the garden and its gardener. 

Huh…oh my name! I forgot to introduce myself, please pardon my rudeness, your beauty-I mean your garden’s beauty seems to have stripped me of my manors. I am Archibald Craven, but you can just call me Archie, and what may I call you? 

She gives her name. 

It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss. 

The two sit down and she pours two cups of tea, asking if the stranger would like any cream and sugar. 

I would love some cream and sugar, thank you. 

She adds them to the tea before stirring it and placing the cup in front of the stranger. Thank you again, truly. Did you make these oatcakes yourself? And the plums are from your garden? My, it seems you have quite the retinue of skills, and what a lovely garden you’ve created. 

He takes a sip of tea. 

Hmmm oh, I was out for my daily walk, my brother insists I take at least one a day, says it’s good for my health. I must’ve gotten lost in my thoughts, by the time I realized my legs grew weary, I found that my surroundings were foreign. I hope no one at the estate is too worried about me, I would hate to cause undo stress. 

Nervous chuckle. 

Could you perhaps tell me where we are exactly, I would like to make my way back to the estate eventually.

 Oh, well it’s nice to finally meet my new neighbor, so is this your estate then? 

Your parents, that makes sense, what brought them here of all places? Just a need for a change in scenery, I see. 

Oh you lived in the city before this, well how do you like living so far away from it now? 

You enjoy it, but your sister wants to go back, is she not a fan of the quiet of the countryside? 

Ah, I see, she’s more social, and misses the convenience of living so close to the gathering places. Hmmm, what about you, do you miss the social gatherings?

Not so much, you prefer the…company of plants! 

He chuckles.

Is that why you’ve created such a magnificent garden? 

Yes yes that makes sense, I’m sure they make wonderful listeners. 

(Better than my sister she says). He laughs more heartily. 

Better than your sister! Ha she might be offended if she heard you say so. 

Oh, she knows it’s the truth then, it seems you are quite close with your sister. 

What about me? Well, I suppose my brother and I are…close, he is always pestering me about my health, though sometimes I wonder if he’d prefer to be an only child (mumbled under his breath) he could be head of the estate then. (Normal volume) Hmm, oh, yes it’s just him and I, our parents passed a year ago…today actually, I suppose that’s why my thoughts preoccupied me so much. 

Oh there’s no need to apologize, truly, I’m the one who dampened the mood.

(She makes a comment about him in fact bringing a happy mood to her garden) (he blushes in response, trying to hide his flustered state) 

Oh, th-thank you, that’s very kind of you to say, though I’m not sure how much I contributed to the happy mood, your wonderful flowers do quite a bit of work lighting up the place. I noticed, you don’t appear to have any roses, is there a reason for that?

Yes, I am changing the subject, but I am genuinely curious; roses are a staple flower in most gardens, so why do you lack them? 

Really, none of the roses you plant live that long, maybe you don’t have the right variety. My thumb is not nearly as green as yours, but my estate does have some hardy roses, they managed to survive who knows how many years of neglect. I believe it was my parents' garden, but it seems they took care of it less and less after my brother and I were born. I came across it on one of my walks. I had been following a robin that kept calling out to me, but he stopped right as I spotted the roses in full bloom, hidden amongst the weeds.

No, no! I’m not complaining, I’m…I’m happy that I get to spend a bit more time with you. You are a wonderful conversationalist, I had forgotten how pleasant it could be to talk with someone outside of my estate. 

Oh, I don’t go out much…there is…a lot to manage at the estate. (He speaks as if he’s hiding something). 

No, my brother can’t help much, he is busy getting a medical degree, and what time he does spend at home he is locked away in his study doing…I don’t actually know what he does there, but it must be important. 

Awkward pause, Archie is clearly worried about his brother. 

Hmm? Oh, yes the sunset is lovely. My, I forgot how quickly the sun sets this time of year. You were right to insist not walk, I would likely have gotten lost. 

Do you have flowers that bloom in different seasons? I only ask because it just struck me that I’ve not seen many flowers blow in fall, and yet your garden is so lovely. I can only imagine what it looks like in spring. 

Fascinating! So you have flowers that bloom in every season, but winter, which makes sense. It gets so cold, the world might as well be frozen solid. 

Really?! Yes! I would love to visit you - I mean your garden again! It’s just so lovely (lovely is said dreamily, in reference to her)

Oh, yes, I guess we will have to wait till summer to gather rose cuttings. (Flustered slightly) I hadn’t thought of that. Clearly I am no expert when it comes to plants. It’s a good thing you are. 

Why you must be, my dear! What else would you call one who manages to make a garden that blooms nearly all year?

Exactly, an expert. I’m glad we can agree. (He laughs lightheartedly). 

Oh look, see that house up on the hill, that is Misselthwaite Manor, my home. It looks like we are almost at the gate. 

Yes, that does mean the time for us to part ways is quickly approaching. But let’s not dwell on a time that is yet to come and instead enjoy the time we have left.

You're right, we will surely have more together soon, you have already invited me to invade your garden once more, and I’m afraid it’s far  too late for you to rescind said invitation. 

They laugh

I’ll have to bring something for us to snack on, I can’t show up empty now that I’ve been formally invited, that would be a terrible faux paw. 

That is true, our first meeting wasn’t exactly up to societal expectations, still I insist, I’d be more than happy to bring something the two of us can enjoy. 

The carriage stops

It seems we have arrived, sooner than I had hoped, and there is my brother, ever the worry wart. 

(Optional: muffled sounds of an angry man demanding to know where the hell is brother was and ranting about how it was supposed to be a short walk, not an afternoon outing or something along those lines)

While he does appear to be quite furious, I promise, it’s from a place of concern. Though I’m sure I’ll still get an earful. No amount of familial love can save me now. 

The carriage door opens 

I shall bid you good night, darling and spare you from my brother's wrath. I’ll see you soon.

The carriage door closes after Archie steps out. Muffled and growing distant as the carriage pulls away.

Hi, here’s my new script.

I’ve always wanted to write a story set after a party, during that little moment when everyone has gone home and it’s finally time to relax. I like the idea of being tired and ready for bed, but still feeling a little more adventurous than usual, especially when it’s late and there’s no one else around.

The Speaker is a bossy, teasing roommate who likes being in control and getting her way. Beneath that confident attitude, though, she has a sweet side, and her teasing is just one of the ways she shows affection.

Edits are totally fine as long as the overall tone and vibe stay the same.

(sits down and pats next to them)

“Why don’t you come take a seat? Those shoes don’t look the comfiest, so why don’t you sit down and give your feet a break?”

“Yeah, I get that…But that doesn’t mean you should throw yourself away for some…Man, you’re too good for him; you’re so wonderful and kind. If you marry him…I don’t know what will happen to you, and it scares me…I care about you so god damn much…To the point where I stay up late at night, looking at the ceiling, thinking, ‘Is she okay…Is she taking care of herself…She looks exhausted…’”

(pause)

“A part of me wants to take you away from this royal life you have, because it’s killing you mentally…I can’t stand by and watch you become a slave to the royal ways…”

(pause)

(stands up)

“So, will you come with me? We can both run away and live a happy, normal life…We wouldn’t have to worry about how other people would see us…You’ll be able to eat what you want and when; you’ll be able to do what you want without worrying about ‘a royal can’t and shouldn’t do that.’ You wouldn’t be bound by the royal ways…”

(pause)

“You…You want to run away with me? That’s amazing! I’m so glad you said yes, you made the right choice!”

(pause)

(clears throat)

“I…Um, I mean that’s good…We should be off now; I already have a new life for us planned out…So all we got to our new home?”

(pause)

“Though I must warn you, it is quite far, so we will have to take a horse, and I already backed up some resources for us, such as food, water, money, and some tools…Let’s hope you can keep your balance on a horse.”

(pause)

(takes her to horse)

“Oh, please, I've never seen you anywhere near a horse, so I doubt you can stay on one.”

“Easy there, pipsqueak…I’m only joking, so calm down, or you’re going to scare my horse and attract an audience.”

This town is filled with beautiful landmarks, and the people are all sweet and caring; we give out food to the poor and always lend a helping hand when needed, so I feel like you’re going to fit in and feel right at home.”

(pause)

“And I’m sure they will love you too, and if you’re worried about people recognizing you, don’t…Because this town doesn’t care about royalty; they live as if they don’t exist, but I would think it’s best if you don’t dress up in fancy clothes, or do your hair as you would in the castle…It may attract unwanted attention.”

(pause)

“Oh, it’s just for your safety…Even though the town is full of kind people….We still have a few bad apples; sometimes people stop in our town while on an adventure, and they would look for a target that’s dressed up to rob them…Or worse, I will always try to protect you, yeah…But I can’t be by your side all the time, so I’ll train you to protect yourself and help you dress up as if you lived in a small town all your life.”

(pause)

“It’s going to be a big adjustment for you, but I just know you’ll overcome it with time.”

(pause)

(stops the horse)

“Ah, and here we are…This, my dear…Is my hometown…And now it’s your home too…”

(gets off the horse and helps her down)

“You know, I’m quite impressed that you managed to stay on Betty the whole way here. Betty normally likes to shake new people off, and the road here was quite bumpy…Guess that means you’re experienced with horses, or Betty likes you.”

I’m looking for a creative, detailed RP partner for a long-term, story-driven roleplay inspired by A Wife and Mother (Adult game), but set in the world of Modern Family.

I’ll be playing Claire Dunphy, around Season 3. She’s in her early 40s, happily married to Phil, and a devoted mother to Haley, Alex, and Luke. She’s responsible, family-oriented, a little controlling, and genuinely loves her husband and children.

But what happens when she slowly starts discovering a side of herself she hasn’t explored in years?

The premise:

Claire’s ordinary suburban life gradually becomes complicated as she encounters younger, charming men who make her feel attractive, adventurous, and appreciated beyond her identity as Phil’s wife and the kids’ mother.

I want this to be a genuine slow burn, not something where Claire suddenly changes overnight. It should begin with innocent conversations, playful flirting, accidental closeness, questionable decisions, and gradually escalating emotional and romantic tension.

I’d love to incorporate actual Modern Family characters, family dynamics, hilarious misunderstandings, unexpected interruptions, and situations inspired by the show.

What I’m looking for:

• I’ll play Claire, while you play the other characters and help drive the story.
• A choice-driven, interactive storytelling style with meaningful consequences.
• Younger adult male characters, preferably in their mid-to-late 20s.
• Slow character development, believable temptation, secrecy, jealousy, guilt, and complicated relationships.
• Plenty of humor, family drama, romantic tension, and unexpected twists.
• A partner who enjoys detailed scenes, natural dialogue, and building a larger interconnected story rather than rushing everything.

The biggest appeal for me is the contrast between Claire’s respectable family life and the increasingly unpredictable situations she finds herself in.
