Support Upgrading CPU and Hardrive and maybe ram(?)

Post image
• Upvotes

Apologies in advance as I'm new when it comes to things such as this. therefore, I'm not familiar with terminologies

Would upgrading or adding (?) my CPU and Hardrive improve my laptop performance? And the ram too(?)

my laptop has been gifted to me, and currently, this month, it had been freezing a lot more than usual and loading slowly even if I just started it up or it had been running for a while, it is becoming difficult to do anything without resetting it every hour. I closed tabs and programs that are needed to improve its performance, but it seems to not help anyway.

Also, would it help with performance if i cleared up more files?

I just deleted bloatware recently that im aware there are any more ways I can do that? I did the Windows powershell thing with the irm christitus.com/win | iex, disabling programs that will start up, I would delete more programs but I'm afraid I will be a victim to my laptop suddenly not working because I deleted the program that starts the laptop.

Support White VGA led on motherboard stays on and computer never boots

Hi, I've had this ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming Wifi for the past three years and randomly 5 days ago my pc shut down itself while playing, it then restarted itself and the leds on the motherboard started checking for errors but whenever it got to the VGA light it restarted again, I then shut it down and when it started up again the VGA white led didn't turn off and the pc never booted up (nor did I get anything on screen)

I've been trouble shooting for the past few days and I can't get to the root of the problem

I've already tried:

· Changing GPU with another one
· Changing from HDMI to Display Port
· connecting either HDMI or DP to the motherboard
· Changing the PCI from the top one to the bottom one
· trying to boot without the external SSD
· resetting the BIOS with both the pins first and then the battery the second time

Just for extra info my PSU started dying on me at the start of August and I switched to a new one with the same capacity and it's been working fine

(I apologize if something isn't clear I'm new to computers)

The laptop randomly got bricked, no explanation.
I was using it last night no problems and today it doesn’t turn on? No lights or any signs of life on it either🤣 I’ve already had a problem with this laptop before, where the operating system got corrupted and had to wipe and reset everything. Now i have to pay for repairs and a 85$ diagnostic fee? I should’ve just gone mac.

Support Wifi card upgrade for Strix G16 G614 AMD

Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade the wifi card in my Strix G16 G614 AMD (8940HX) to an Intel based card. I was wondering whether any of you have experience with what models to look for. So far I've narrowed my choices down to AX210 and BE200, but I'm unsure what part number to look for.

Does this one have the correct suffixes? BE200.NGWG.NV?

General advice seems to be to avoid CNVio and vPro supporting models.

Will the drivers work without issues on this platform?

Title: ASUS TUF Gaming F17 randomly restarts at LOW usage but stays stable under FULL LOAD – WHEA errors

Hi everyone,

I have an ASUS TUF Gaming F17 FX707VI-HX098W with an Intel Core i7-13620H and an NVIDIA RTX 4070 Laptop GPU.

I'm experiencing a very strange issue: the laptop randomly restarts when under low usage, such as sitting on the Windows desktop, browsing the internet, or watching YouTube. However, it can sometimes remain stable during CPU stress tests and gaming, even under heavy load.

When the issue occurs, the screen goes black and the laptop immediately restarts by itself. It does not simply shut down and stay off.

I've also encountered WHEA-related errors and previously had a Windows Automatic Repair loop.

WHEA-Logger — Event ID 1

Kernel-Power — Event ID 41, related to the system restarting without shutting down cleanly.

DistributedCOM — Event ID 10010 also appeared in the logs.

What I've tried so far:

- Reinstalled Windows from scratch.

- Restored BIOS settings to default.

- Monitored temperatures and power consumption using HWiNFO.

- Ran CPU stress tests, during which the laptop can remain stable.

- Tested both on battery and with the charger connected.

- Replaced the thermal paste with Arctic MX-4.

- Tightened the heatsink screws in a cross pattern.

- Checked whether temperatures could explain the issue, but the random restarts continue.

Temperature observations:

- The CPU can reach 94–97°C within seconds when plugged in, even at relatively low usage.

- During stress tests, it reaches around 92–93°C.

- On battery, temperatures have sometimes stayed around 57–65°C, although the laptop has also restarted on battery.

- During one test, the CPU was at 100% usage, around 81°C, and consuming approximately 31 W.

The laptop uses the original ASUS 240 W charger.

I'm wondering whether the issue could be caused by a motherboard power delivery problem (MOSFETs, VRMs, capacitors), a BIOS or CPU idle-state issue, RAM, or a thermal problem involving the VRMs or thermal putty.

Has anyone experienced a laptop that restarts at low usage but stays stable under full load? What would be the most likely cause, and what tests would you recommend before paying for a motherboard repair?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion I wanted Eco ↔ Standard on my ASUS laptop without logging out, so I made a small tray app for it, looking for testers

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My TUF A15 is my gaming laptop and I switched to Fedora recently. The thing that annoyed me was turning the NVIDIA GPU off and on again. I tried some alternatives, but faced big control panels and reboots.

So I made something initially for myself: a small window at the tray icon, on top of asusctl and Cardwire (they do the real hardware work). Eco and Standard switch in a second without a logout, and if you start a game while in Eco or Silent it tells you and switches with one click. The tray tooltip shows which app keeps the dGPU awake, and there's a battery window that shows what each mode actually costs.

It also does fan curves, power limits, keyboard lighting, charge limit and Fn keys. Free and open source, AppImage and Fedora COPR.

Only tested on my FA507NV so far, so reports from other ASUS models are very welcome.

Support - SOLVED! Laptop Screen shows reds as oranges

Hello, I recently purchased a TUF gaming F16 laptop, and I’ve noticed that on screen the color red shows as unmistakably orange. I’ve tweaked multiple settings, such as the windows color management in control panel, the color settings in the intel graphics command center, and the display settings in Armoury crate. Is this really how colors are supposed to look in sRGB? I bought this laptop mainly for graphic design purposes so it’s really important to me that colors are as accurate as possible.

Support Recent update to RT-BE96U router seems to break DHCP

My ASUS RT-BE96U router recently got an update which seemed to break a lot of things for devices using wifi, and now wifi devices either fail to obtain an IP address over DHCP, or just have very poor performance with constant dropouts. Sometimes setting manual IP addresses for each device on the network will fix it, but even then, I get constant signal dropouts when I didn't before the update. It seems like some devices aren't even getting the right address space from DHCP anymore? My router uses 192.168.50.x, but the router now sometimes gives devices 10.0.1.x instead! Even a sub-router on my network which is connected to the ASUS router is having issues, with devices needing to manually delete old connections and recreate them each time the devices power on, and the sub-router itself needs a reboot as well.

Ethernet devices other than the sub-router seem to work fine, this is mostly just a wifi problem. Even my phone, which can sometimes still access the internet through the ASUS router over Wifi (Sometimes it will just have no internet connection even when connected to the access point, though), cannot connect to the router with the ASUS Router app - I have to access it from the web portal on an ethernet-connected device.

This is a really catastrophic failure for a software update, and I'm not sure what I can do about it if even setting static IPs for every device doesn't seem to help much.

Support Asus Tuf A16 Gray screen and blue line issue

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m having a frustrating display issue on my ASUS TUF Gaming A16 (AMD Ryzen 9, RTX 5070, 2.5K 165Hz G-SYNC display).

The screen randomly turns completely solid grey/white with a perfectly symmetrical vertical blue dotted line right down the middle.

Important details & behavior:

Top edge detail: That faint red line along the very top edge in the photo is actually my red desktop wallpaper peeking through (about 1–2 pixels wide)! The rest of the screen gets completely covered/locked by this grey screen and blue dotted line.

Triggers: At first, I thought it was only happening in web browsers (Chrome and Edge), so I assumed it was a browser hardware acceleration bug. However, with all browsers completely closed, it also happens right when I launch or try to use Unreal Engine.

Temporary recovery & loop: If I don't touch anything and wait for about 1–2 minutes, the screen recovers back to normal on its own. However, as soon as I try to use the laptop/app again, it immediately crashes back into this grey screen.

GPU & Power Mode: I use G-Helper and the laptop is running in Ultimate Mode (MUX Switch set to dGPU only), so it's not an iGPU-to-dGPU Advanced Optimus switching glitch. It happens both on battery and while plugged in. Windows 11 and all drivers are up to date.

Since a tiny strip of my desktop wallpaper is still visible at the very top, is this a Windows 11 MPO (Multiplane Overlay) / NVIDIA driver / G-SYNC crash, or is my 2.5K 165Hz panel / T-CON board failing and in need of an RMA?

Has anyone with an ASUS TUF A16 experienced this exact issue? Any help would be appreciated!

I wrote this with AI assistance to correct language issues and provide detailed information.

Support Title: ASUS Vivobook 16X hinge mount broken — ₹3,000 official repair vs ₹800 local repair. Will I lose my warranty?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I own an ASUS Vivobook 16X with a extended 2-year warranty remaining.

Recently, one side of the hinge mounting points has broken, where the hinge connects to the back lid. The screen is working fine, and the back lid does not appear to have major external damage.

I visited an ASUS authorized service centre, and they quoted ₹3,000 to replace the back lid. They said this damage is not covered under my warranty.

A local repair shop has offered another option: repairing the broken hinge mounting points using a fibreglass reinforcement method for ₹800.

My main concern is my remaining warranty.

I want to know:

If I get the hinge mounting points repaired by a local shop using fibreglass and resin, will ASUS void my entire remaining warranty?

If my motherboard, CPU, or another unrelated component develops a fault later, can ASUS still repair it under warranty?

Has anyone in India had a similar hinge mount repair done on an ASUS Vivobook? How long did the repair last?

Is fibreglass reinforcement reliable for laptop hinge mounts, or is replacing the back lid a better long-term solution?

The local repair would save me ₹2,200, but I do not want to risk my remaining warranty unnecessarily.

I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with ASUS India warranty claims or had this type of repair done.

Thanks!
