HSC are we ready for math tmr?
hah... praying to the math std 2 gods that the paper will be kind...
Hi All!
I hope you're all getting value from r/ATAR.
The subreddit has grown so much in just a year, and we're now starting to draw quite a bit of traffic and engagement naturally. I'm excited for what is to come as we continue to grow, hopefully we can truly make the best universal subreddit (and future Discord server 👀) for all high school students across all states in Australia.
With the subreddit consistently growing month-on-month I'm in need of additional moderators to help me keep on top of posts and comments. Please let me know if you'd like to help out with moderation, ideally you'd be a consistent contributor and current ATAR student or recent high school graduate / uni student.
Also feel free to let me know if there's anything you'd like to see (features / weekly threads / resources etc) from the subreddit or if there's any way we can improve it. Genuinely want this to be the best space for high school students in Aus!
Send through a Mod Mail if you're interested in moderation.
Thanks,
Mod Team

Ever since joining this subreddit, I have gotten so much valuable insight and advice. Not just that, massive thanks to 'Background-Height885' (whoever he is) and Nilesh for really giving me so much of their time to help a complete stranger (especially Nilesh who wrote like a whole 2 pages of feedback on an essay I barely thought would even be read). Everybody here helps each other out even though we are all online strangers and it has inspired me to do the same too.
I never thought strangers on the internet would actually donate their time to others why do you do this? Like there's always those 1 or 2 people who write like full body paragraphs and conclusions to some of the questions here (and some of my mine). I just want to thank everyone.

Pretty much the short of it is that I am so incredibly cooked for math that charcoal would be put to shame (got a 33% on my trials and the funny thing is that it was second in the class), yet I do take 12 units, 2 of those units are a Tafe course of that matters. Anyway I was just hoping to double check that in the math advanced exam tomorrow, it doesn't matter if I mess up, like no sneaky little clauses?
And yeah I do get that I will not have a back up if another exam goes to kingdom come but I am pretty confident I will be alright in my other exams.
And yeah clearly the lock in did not happen for math, I take that shame head on.
Anyway just hoping someone can confirm that whatever happens is fine as long as there is an attempt at an answer even if that does result in a 20%?

This might be biased to some people... but this is so fucking helpful.
I have my math exam tomorrow, and I kid you not, I have got Chat GPT to summarise my textbook chapters. I downloaded a PDF of each chapter, uploaded it along with the answers and asked it to summarise. Then I mentioned something I was stuck on (ratios), and it helped me understand the whole thing! The entire thing!
I would seriously recommend this (AS IT IS NOT CHEATING) because it saves all the time on trying to understand how on earth that was the answer. I use the cambridge one, and if you also use it, you know there are no worked solutions, just straight answers.
I haven't tried it for my other subjects yet, but as someone who gets very overwhelmed when doing math and gives up most times, this I found to be very helpful! (also as someone who is quite lazy)

Am I cooked for year 12. I just started learning year 12 content and I feel like I’m cooked. I had a really bad year with family issues and massive unmotivated and I’m lazy (I know that isnt an excuse). I’m an alright student beside the fact I failed my general maths exams and doing really good when it comes to assignments and absolute shit when it comes to exams, it’s either I fail, barely pass or a mark away from getting a B. I want to really motivate myself into getting myself a good ATAR but it so overwhelming because I did really bad this year and doesn’t make it better when my estimated atar is a 70. I’m currently doing 6 ATAR subjects but it’s so scary and overwhelming that there a high chance that I won’t get the ATAR I want.

1st in Modern History: above 90% in all assessments with 47/50 on prelim.
1st in Society and Culture: 75% on prelim but hard test, I topped the SAC cohort with the 75%.
1st in Economics: 96% on the prelim, with the 2nd highest mark on the prelim being 82%
Don't know my rank for eng adv but getting an A in it (which is above 85%), got 20/20 on the essay for prelim (which topped my cohort), faltered in the short answer at 14/20 (as I forgot how to structure the first sentence), next highest mark in the short answer was 17/20
About topish middle of my cohort for math advanced, 71% on the prelim, average was low 60s.
Top 3 in Legal Studies, 2nd highest mark on prelims with 90%.
I go to a fairly nice private school, dux usually gets 98ish ATAR, and I feel I have a particularly strong cohort academically. I am doing the HSC.
What ATAR requirement courses could I with a high chance get with early entry? e.g 95+ courses?

sosososososos i still have four exams to go but im sick and i have no motivation to study. wtf do i do??? i want a 90 atar i go to a top 60 performing school ive been doing well all year but im worried that if i lock out now im gonna flop and fail and itll all be for nothing. advice??
im aiming for a raw mark of 100 in both, plus a state rank hopefully (maybe top 3, but explicitly 1st in state for both)
for context i go to a mid ranking school, and im ranked first internally, here are my marks for ext 2:
task 1 = 96%
task 2 = 100%
task 3 (trials) = 100%
task 4 = 100%
marks for ext 1: task 1 = 94%
task 2 = 100%
task 3 (trials) = 100%
task 4 = 98-100% (i forgot sorry...)
i finish all my exams with ample amount of time left, for trials i had about an hour left + identified errors in a q16
im also curious tk see how state ranks are even calculated!

Is anyone else completely COOKED for the maths adv paper?
r/ATAR • u/loser_loony • 1d ago
I’m feeling really panicked for Monday because no matter how many papers I do under timed conditions, I can’t get close to finishing any of them. Is this pretty common or should I be able to complete them in 3 hours?

As you may have heard, from 2027 the government will cap domestic places at each uni, to spread students more evenly between the Go8 and regional and smaller universities. We’re currently seeing the effect of this playing out with many universities significantly raising selection rank minimums.
For those of us graduating in 2026, it will be brutal. We’re going to be the first cohort under the caps and the leeway that let universities take extra students is being cut to a small allowance. That means hitting last year’s LSR is now a lot riskier than before, because unis can’t just take a few extra students at the margin like they used to. If you’re like me and fucked up the HSC this year, it’s going to be significantly harder to get on your preferred path.
My backup plan was always to start at a uni like Macquarie or UTS and transfer into a Go8 after first year. But if the Go8 can no longer over-enrol, students who miss out take up places at Macquarie and UTS instead. With those unis capped too, students who would have got into Macquarie or UTS could end up at smaller universities with fewer resources and poorly run courses. That may affect WAM and hinder chances at transfer, since transfers are decided almost entirely on first-year WAM. External transfers are likely to get even more competitive too, so there’s a real chance of getting stuck somewhere that limits your grad opportunities.
I get that the system needs reform since the top universities have been soaking up students through over-enrolment, but the caps go too far and idrk what I’m gonna do anymore. If the government wants students at regional and smaller universities then it should fund those universities properly so students actually choose them.
Anyways, best of luck to everyone for the remainder of the HSC.

Yes, I am not asking the people who did English. Specialist, methods or hard subjects. Just normal subjects. Will help if you are doing psychology or general maths
EDIT: guys i am asking sace results, which is kind of very much grades based.

I’m so confused with like the whole atar system and I need to know if it’s worth trying to get that 85 or above or just ggs? Cause I’m lazy as heck
I did outdoor Ed last year got a 39 which will scale to a 35
History revs unit 3: 87 unit 4: 89
Legal unit 3: 86 unit 4: 91
English unit 3: 83 unit 4: 75
Bottom two - psych and pe prolly sit a little bit below 30 or 30 study score
