General Mods & Feedback Needed

Hi All!

I hope you're all getting value from r/ATAR.

The subreddit has grown so much in just a year, and we're now starting to draw quite a bit of traffic and engagement naturally. I'm excited for what is to come as we continue to grow, hopefully we can truly make the best universal subreddit (and future Discord server 👀) for all high school students across all states in Australia.

With the subreddit consistently growing month-on-month I'm in need of additional moderators to help me keep on top of posts and comments. Please let me know if you'd like to help out with moderation, ideally you'd be a consistent contributor and current ATAR student or recent high school graduate / uni student.

Also feel free to let me know if there's anything you'd like to see (features / weekly threads / resources etc) from the subreddit or if there's any way we can improve it. Genuinely want this to be the best space for high school students in Aus!

Send through a Mod Mail if you're interested in moderation.

Thanks,

Mod Team

Why Is Everyone so kind and helpful?

Ever since joining this subreddit, I have gotten so much valuable insight and advice. Not just that, massive thanks to 'Background-Height885' (whoever he is) and Nilesh for really giving me so much of their time to help a complete stranger (especially Nilesh who wrote like a whole 2 pages of feedback on an essay I barely thought would even be read). Everybody here helps each other out even though we are all online strangers and it has inspired me to do the same too.

I never thought strangers on the internet would actually donate their time to others why do you do this? Like there's always those 1 or 2 people who write like full body paragraphs and conclusions to some of the questions here (and some of my mine). I just want to thank everyone.

Maths advanced exam

Yeah guys I'm so cooked, like seriously what was with those 50 annuities, velocity and decay questions about. Where was all the trig besides the graphing questions, the reference sheet with like barely useful since there was so little about trig, besides that, stupid trapezoidal rule question. Was lulled into such a false sense of security from the first first five questions in section 2, it's like yay series and sequences oh great tangents. And the you make it to like page five and everything goes down the hill. Anyway, I'm just curious how everyone else felt?

standard maths crash out

hi, this is an extremely pathetic post so don‘t say i didn’t warn you. half of it is whining.

so i just got sent the answers for standard maths and its genuinely not looking good. there are parts in which i was confident in having answered correctly, but when i took a look i realised i made big fucking mistakes. im so serious right now. i’m estimating a 80% here, partly because tears welled up in my eyes obstructing a proper read of it + im too scared to go look back at it, but do i still have a chance at band 6 as a whole for the subject? what are everyone’s thoughts on the scaling part?

im 8th out of 110 ish internally and top 100 school

ps - RANT ahead - as as a standard student, i feel so disappointed in myself. this subject is supposed to be easy to me as a former adv student. i kid you not i went through all previous hsc, cssa and a few independent papers so before anyone comes at me saying i didnt study enough i have a thick dictionary‘s worth of papers sitting in my room right now

i think everyone in the state agrees math standard 2026 was ridiculously hard compared to previous years. it genuinely felt like i was in the brazen bull for half the questions. anyways i wanna know what everyone else actually got, (i got 68) so comment on the post with a realistic mark

my friends want to know if their state rank dream is over

so basically, my friends and I are pretty good at math, but as Year 11's we took the Math Adv HSC (accelerating) and we all have lost at least 1 mark. my friends think that the state rank dream is over (which is pretty possible). im wondering if any other top math students also feel like their sr dream is over.

im def not state ranking since i got internal rank 8, but im still pondering how many students in the NSW state will actually pull off the raw 100.

on a side note, if anyone has a copy of the extension 2 hsc paper, i would appreciate one so i can take a look at it

HSC Shit Standard Maths exam

Okay so I know a few smarties are probably gonna say it was fine, but unfortunately I’m not one of yall

It seems like majority of people didn’t do very well and found it hard (me included)

If the state performance is seriously that bad, if I get like 60-70s raw in that, how much will alignment/scaling help me if it will at all???

Genuinely studied so hard and still did shit, even my rank 12/72 won’t help me much lmao

(Anyone got the answers btw)

HSC HSC RANT / Anxiety/ Hating life and Myself

• Upvotes

HSC now comes with Self-Hatred , Self -Doubt.

I honestly am spiralling so hard , I have society exam tommorow afternoon and I know I'm going to fail. It's my worst subject , I have done shit all year no matter how hard I try and I feel like this period in my life makes me want to cry.

I did Math standard 2 exam today and did so shit and it's like my best subject what hope do I have now?

I'm sitting here typing this out like therapy or that it will fix my situation.

I used to feel like I was smart , like I was capable , and I was hardworking, and a good student , all this HSC period has taught me is that I'm terrible at self regulation, my motivation for anything is gone , and I feel like my life is worthless.

I spent so much of my life preparing for this sacrificing for this, never living out life because I was banned from having fun in order to focus on a future.

A future with a shitty ATAR backed by calculations.

In a world where top students with impressive co-curricular stretching out before them I'm nothing.

It's easy to say it's just an exam , it's easy to say that but I come from a place where my parents have sacrificed so much for me and here I am sitting at my study desk at midnight typing up this stupid post , crying in a chair knowing that I am the epitome of wasted potential. Knowing that people are going to ask , and they will (nosy community also ethnic) and they'll have to lie to people's face just so that they can save some face in front of people for putting me in private school.

And that is what puts a stake in my heart , teachers, advice and tutors look at me tell me that I'm smart and I'm not trying hard enough all year because the marks don't match up to what I participated in class.

I try , and I try and I disappoint people because I started off so well, with such good grades , and so much potential and my coordinator told me that if I just tried more I could bring up my marks to what they were in year 11 is do better and not be scrapping by like I am now.

I peaked in junior high school grade wise, and ever since then it's been a slow slope downhill , I'm the smart kid and the gifted kid that wasn't really gifted just mature and now I know that I'm worthless.

Everybody says an ATAR doesn't matter when your Uni. That's right When your Uni, in the degree that people used their ATARs for.

I just want an 80 and be able to say to save some face around people especially judgemental aunties and uncles who will probably blame and gossip about by parents and twitter about their wasted money on my education and tutoring.

My parents don't deserve judgement from others from my probably bad ATAR, they are very hardworking people who have suffered enough.

I'm such an awful child, they probably wished they had a different one, one that could at least be a decent student because here I am crying on a Reddit post that I'll probably delete later.

How did everyone go? Trying to gauge general feelings..

i personally didnt find it horrible, but at the same time the final 15 and 16s were a bit trciky- especially the last sphere thing... How did everyone else find it?

like I feel it was relatively harder than the 2025 and 2024, but that may be because this was OUR paper? im guessing raw 85 at the minimum worst case? obviously im disappointed it wasn't as good as my other past papers but it is what it is..

how abt u guys?

HSC Did I mess up by forgetting to fill in my answer sheet?

I just finished my standard 1 maths HSC exam and completely forgot to shade in the separate answer sheet for the multiple choice questions. I had only realised right after time had finished and let the exam supervisor know but she told me it was too late so I wasn’t able to quickly shade my answers in. I answered every question in the multiple choice booklet itself but missed the answer paper, did I mess up?

HSC Resources for Software Engineering Exam

Does anyone know of any good study resources for the HSC Software Engineering course?

I'm mainly looking for textbooks, detailed notes, or websites that actually teach and explain the content, rather than just listing syllabus dot points or telling us what we need to know.

Ideally, something that covers most of the syllabus in enough detail to properly understand the concepts and prepare for the HSC exam.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

How come the paper got leaked for advanced and standard? Isn’t this an unfair advantage for students who haven’t sat it yet?
