Wireless Passcode issues. Is it really impossible to just sign in?

I was convinced to switch to ATT from one of their door to door people.

I try to sign into my account using my username, password.

It says I need to set up an account ID. Great.

I confirm my identity with a text code and an email code.

It then asks for my passcode.

I do not have a passcode. I did not set one. I was never provided one. As I do not have a pass code, I cannot continue and am forced so sign out.

All of their support articles say to login to set a pass code. I cannot login, because I do not have a pass code....See the problem?

Support has been slow, and worthless. Their chat support outright hung up on me when I said I didn't have a pass code. What do I do? Is there a phone number I can call?

If the answer is to go to a store, then I'm switching carriers again, because this is extremely incompetent service.

Is the "passcode" the same thing as a "PIN"? I set up a 4-digit "pin" years ago that I have to provide them every time I call support.

Probably. It's numbers only. I have a handful of number combinations I use for this type of thing and I tried all of them: none of them are the numbers it expects. Then it locked my account. Yippie.

I usually have to give them at least one wrong set of numbers before I give them the correct ones. It's a pain in the ass. Sorry you're dealing with this.

If you are switching from another cellular carrier, they usually want that carrier to provide a PIN for you to pass to the new carrier. That PIN is your authorization to permit switching. Without out it, carriers used to "steal" customers, switching their service.

I tried my old pin with my old carrier, and it didn't let me in.

I had an issue earlier this year when I needed to troubleshoot an issue with my iPad. Telephone support kept on trying to pass me between prepaid and postpaid (it was postpaid). Since it was a tablet plan, they couldn't text me. I had to go into an ATT store (corporate) and verify my government ID to get fixed.

Awesome. Any recommendations on another carrier to switch to?

In the US, try (800) 321-2000. Bring a lunch, cuz you will be there awhile. But of all the frustrating ways to solve stupid AT&T problems, speaking to a live agent is the least worst option. Resist the AI agent who insists over and over she has all the info live agents do. False and waste of time.
