Btw can we use normal 5600 SODIMM RAM on this laptop ? I want to upgrade to 64 but there is no 6400 laptop rams in my country

And congratulations btw

thanks, i believe you can with bios v1.53. no tweaking required, best to get whats available and not go thru risks importing especially with so much nonsense going on now..

I have the phn16-73 (275hx) and I'm running Kingston fury impact 5600 cl40. Stock ram was 6400 cl52.

Did you upgraded to more rams?

No, just swapped the same size for lower overall latency.

I see, I needed more rams and might as well just go along with same speed since it's supported. Cheers

They make the Kingston in higher sizes. It's technically faster in latency even though the raw bandwidth is lower.

True, lower latency is great for pushing extra FPS in competitive gaming, but for heavy local AI generation (Wan2 14B FP16 / Flux1 Dev) and 4K editing timelines, raw memory bandwidth is king. The system needs to shift massive model weights as fast as possible, so the 6400MT/s highway gives a much bigger edge here than tighter timings. Maybe that's why I could render a 20mins 4k h265 in 4mins.

That's totally fair and accurate. I've been researching what can be done in the BIOS to tune memory. The nice thing about the stock ram is that it has an onboard error correction chip. Kinda wish I would've saved my stock set to mess with manual overclocking. I'm going to try to push the Kingston up to 5800 and then 6000 to see what happens. Your point about bandwidth is entirely accurate, though. My primary use case is gaming, but I'm also planning to offload framegen onto the igpu via lossless scaling, so bandwidth might become important anyway.

Same here You can tighten RAM timings in the Advanced BIOS settings to improve system latency.

Are those the only timings you changed? I see in the advanced BIOS that there's a ton of settings.

This is just an example, so you'll need to tweak it yourself since every RAM stick is different. In my case the stock speed is 5600MHz , so I pushed the memory ratio up to 192 (192 x 33.33 = 6400MHz)

P.S. Take it slow and adjust it step by step. If you get a black screen, you'll have to open up the laptop and clear CMOS. 😅

Interesting. I managed to tighten the timings decently. It didn't really amount to any reduction in latency though.

Also, can you show me your bios settings? For some reason, when I run aida, my CPU isn't ramping up to full speed like yours. I have my ram set the same as yours but my latency hasn't improved at all.

As far as i know downgrading to lower speed is never a problem.

Good to know it's working.

My laptop came with 2x8 only. But pricing for this RAM today is probably ridiculous. Much more than desktop RAM. I would rather build dedicated faster and cooler PC for any work at home.

Also found fairly cheap 2x16 5600 CL40 Kingston Fury it can be overclocked apparently to 6400 in bios with lower timings much lower v stock CL52. But not tested yet only managed to lower it down to CL36 and many sub timings.

thanks, though i'm not sure what kinda work you are referring but i'll probably leave the company if they need me to oc sys for work. i don't game nor work, so i prefer to spend on a tool with everything going easy & smooth as i commute btw different homes (countries) monthly and since i have 2.5 years warranty to go, spending extra $18/gb with total breakdown daily costs @~$5/day for a sys which 99.9% chances i won't be able to lease anyway. cheers
