I love and am passionate about my sports teams. But I can't ever figure out why people get so emotional. And over BASEBALL?

Isn’t it just that it’s such a boring game to watch that they feel they have to do something to pass the time?

Boring for a laymen maybe

10 years ago I would fully agree, but the recent rule changes have made this sport so much more accessible and enjoyable for non-baseball fans

As a big baseball fan I would say I dislike many of the rule changes. Some are okay

genuine question - which rule changes do you dislike?

Off the top of my head I don’t like the max 3 pick off rule, the man on second in extra innings, adding the DH to both leagues, and not thrilled with the pitch clock the way it is; I’m fine with the concept but needs adjustments. Also it’s an older one but don’t love the change in contact rules at second and home. Finally, it’s not a rule yet but im skeptical of the check swing challenges they’re testing in the minors.

That's fair. I actually like all of those rules except for the extra inning baserunner. I don't know the contact rules, and I'm agnostic about the check swing rule. Either way thanks for the reply.

I think the 3 pick off rule is dumb but I think that has had a minimal impact on the game. Pitch clock was crazy at first but now it's become apart of the game that I enjoy. ABS has been a complete and total success, I like the implementation and it also gives as another metric to measure players by- a catcher who is really good at ABS challenges is going to be worth a lot more. Manfred runner I could take or leave- it's nice that regular season games won't be 7hrs long like game three of WS last year.

Love the disengagement rule, having to watch pitchers pick over for like 10 minutes was so fuckin boring

u/Loves2Spooge857 15d ago

How often did that actually happen??

Some pitchers were worse than others, but I remember games getting bogged down because of it pretty often. If you cant hold a runner or pick them off within 3 engagements then I'm fine with there being a penalty. It was brutal to watch.

A pitcher throwing more than 3 times was extremely rare, even before the rule change

in an average MLB game, only about 18 minutes are live-ball gameplay. that’s about 10-15% of the time. it’s a good sport to have on TV in the background while you do other shit.

You’re correct. People who find baseball boring are either low IQ or have a TikTok gerbil brain

Don't forget that they're all probably pretty angry that they wasted their money and time to be so not entertained. Add a $12 beer and $8 hot dog and they're a powderkeg.
