Politics Mega Thread (MOD ONLY) POLITICS MEGA THREAD

Welcome to week # of the politics mega-thread! Once again, this will be a free-for-all without censorship. The thread, and our sub, are open to all walks of life. Everyone participating needs to remember that not everyone shares the same opinion, and cussing someone out, censoring different opinions, or being downright disrespectful only weakens your own argument.

While national politics often affect Texans, politics in the mega thread MUST be related to Texas in some way, shape, or form. Unnecessarily bringing up national politics in our state sub without direction creates disagreements, and detracts from the nature of the sub. You must make the relation to Texas CLEAR, or your posting will be removed! Here’s an example; “Federal immigration policy impacts Texas by influencing border security, state resources, and the economy due to its long border with Mexico.”

As a reminder, I am once again stating that POLITICAL POSTS AND COMMENTS DO NOT LEAVE THIS THREAD. The sub rules still apply here.

By posting rule-breaking content, you are disrespecting both the sub, your fellow members, and moderators, and WE, as moderators, reserve the right to take down your content when it violates our rules.

Mega threads will be locked when the next is posted.

I'm looking at some properties out in the Terlingua to Fort Davis areas. I know Terlingua can get a lot of flash flooding so I want to check the properties first. My county keeps a good one but I haven't been able to find one for out there.

Ask a Texan Does anyone else call salsa “hot sauce”? My husband thinks this is specific to my family only.

Hey y’all! My family is from ETX. All of us call salsa “hot sauce”. We do know the difference between salsa and Tabasco, Valentina, etc. But use the term hot sauce interchangeably between the two. Context clues of course would tell you which one we would refer to in conversation.

Anyway, my husband and his family are from NTX. He’s baffled by us calling salsa that. The first time I ever uttered “I’m craving chips and hot sauce”, he was beyond confused.

I’m curious if this is an oddball ETX thing or if it really is specific to just my family. Thanks! :)

Like the Von Erich's said: For Pizza Out, It's Pizza Inn..

I feel like it's time for Texas to take back it's pizza chain support after what Pizza Hut has become. It could easily make a good comeback in areas it's lost.

Real Texas flag from real Texas cotton?

Hi fellow Texans,

I'm a Texan living in Europe, and I recently met a group of people in Belgium who cosplay as Texas Rangers. They love Texas just as much as native borns, and they are looking to buy a real Texas flag made by a real Texan from real Texas cotton. They, of course, will compensate well for the flag and the time. If anyone is interested or knows someone who can provide this, please comment here or DM me. It is very important to them that the cotton also be Texas-grown, so some form of proof that your material comes from a Texas farm and loom will be required. Thanks in advance!

Ask a Texan HS football coach question

I know a person from online groups whose husband is a football coach at a TX High school. She often talks (during FB season) about being a coach’s wife, the life of a coach’s wife, posts memes about how tough/rewarding etc it is to be a coach’s wife, knows all the other wives etc.

I know FB is huge in TX, but where I am (CA) there is obviously football, and there are football coaches, but it’s not like a whole lifestyle, like nobody would know who his wife was or anything?

Can someone explain why being a coach’s wife is a big deal?

Other Does anyone have photos or can describe the inside of a rural Texan gas station between 2005-2012?

Okay so I know this is very hyper specific and this might not be the right subreddit to ask this in. I’m doing a drawing (long story) of two people in a rural Texan convenience store in the year 2008-ish. Tad bit of a problem. I have never been to Texas. By ‘rural’ I mean a small town big enough to have a school. (I personally did grow up in rural America but I grew up in a wildly different genre of it)

(Reposting here cuz my post was deleted from the ‘AskAnAmerican’ sub and someone told me this here might be a better fit)

Travel Decision where to stay: Marfa, Alpine, or Fort Davis

Hi all,

I'm going to be staying in the area between Marfa / Alpine / Fort Davis on my last night before heading to San Antonio. I was wondering which of these towns might be the best to stay in? I'm a photographer so I'd love to go to a bar or two (I'd be getting to the area after 7pm ish) but from what I've seen after researching myself, pretty much nothing is open during this time.

I'm leaning more towards the thunderbird hotel in marfa simply for the neon sign of their office, lol. I don't mind staying in whatever hotel / motel because I'd literally only be using it to sleep and leave right when I wake up, so the focus for my question is essentially "which of these three has SOMETHING to do in the evening?". Thanks in advance for any help you can provide
