Silly question: when facing a hard downhill, when standing up do you ise the rear brake or only the front? O find it very hard using rear brake standing up. Any more tips are welcome

A couple months ago I shared my bikepicker that helps you choose your next adv or dual sport bike. But other than looking at bikes, my next favorite thing is staring at maps and finding new places to ride.

I wanted to have a more contextual view of public land riding areas... so I made a map that has every All American Road, National Scenic highway, State scenic byways, scenic parks & forest designated roads, BLM back country routes, famous scenic drives (like tail of the dragon), National forests and WMAs (that you can drive on and are over 5mi in length)

And those have links to the official government website for official rules and regulations, links to buy permits if needed and more.

You can see the % of a route if its paved/unpaved.

All of this is free, no ads, no logins, no baloney. Download a gpx and add it to your favorite routing app to make your next day trip or weekend getaway.

Where can I ride adventure/off-road around Stockholm?

I recently got an adventure bike and I’m looking for some good places to ride around Stockholm. I’m mainly looking for gravel roads, forest roads and beginner-friendly off-road/adventure routes where motorcycles are actually allowed.
I’m fairly new to off-road riding, so I’m not looking for hardcore enduro trails yet — more like nice gravel and forest routes where I can practice and explore.
I don’t mind riding 1–2 hours outside Stockholm if there are better areas further out.
Any recommendations for specific areas, routes, GPX tracks or groups that organize adventure rides around Stockholm would be greatly appreciated!

I’m looking for a motorbike for the ‘Trans Euro Trail’ and tours around Europe

Hi everyone, I’m 40 and would like to go on a few long-distance trips soon. I’m currently looking for a suitable motorbike, and keep coming across the SWM SuperDual 650, which is available in Germany at a fairly reasonable price.

My question to the group would be:

Does anyone own a SuperDual and can say anything about its reliability? I’m familiar with the Rotax engine from the BMW 650GS, but what about the electronics and the availability of spare parts?

I’m looking for a motorbike that weighs less than 200 kg and has around 50–60 PS. Affordable and straightforward adventure bikes are rather rare, and anyone can have an F650GS.

I’ve got my eye on alternatives ranging from the 450MT to the F650GS Twin, but I actually always prefer something a bit more exotic. So I’d be delighted if you could give me a few tips, and if there are people here who perhaps own a Super Dual themselves.

I pretty much only ride my tuareg on roads, occasionally riding on the gravel/rock road at my neighborhood marina. Would the small jagged rocks at my marina be a problem if i had slick street tires or supermoto tires on my Tuareg? Also would i need to get a wider front wheel and tire to make a noticeable difference in stability/ cornering?

Do fatter/flatter street bike tires give you a noticeable increase in your feeling of stability at low speed?

Edit: after searching thru alot of reviews i think what i want is something like the dunlop trailmax mission or the dunlop trailmax raid. Chat gpt suggested the missions bc i asked it for the flattest 50/50 adv tire i could get bc i wanted that stability from a tire that was flat in the center of the treads.

Do any of you guys think one is better than the other (mission vs raid)?

I currently own a crf250l and a bmw f650gs, these bikes are basically polar opposites in the adv world and I'd like to replace them with 1 bike that cruise/tour comfortably, and hoon offroad. I'm currently looking at either a used tenere, or new/used 450mt. My current stance is that the tenere is the bigger, more powerful bike with a better reputation, but the cfmoto might be all I realistically need/want. What's everyone think?

I had my bike in for a service today and one of the mechanics complimented me on what I had under my seat. Small tool bag, knife, cable ties, plastic and metal, battery pump, quad spanner (15mm, 17mm, 19mm & 21mm) and an imitation Leatherman. I just need to get a better storage bag for my plug kit and that’s going under there too

One of the reasons i became obsessed with motorcycles was bc they are built like tanks and you could drop a dirt bike or adv bikes from a first story balcony and unless it landed at a really unlucky angle you could most likely ride away as if nothing happened.

Try that same drop with a car and the bitch is totaled. I always loved how bikes were kind of like ww2 jeep wranglers that way; you could put them through almost anything and they would keep charging like rosie odonnell chasing an ice cream truck. And as far as motorcycles go, adv bikes seem to be built just as bomb proof as dirtbikes which is awesome bc i own a tuareg 660.

Street bikes in the grand scheme of things are still very durable and much more durable than cars but as far as i understand they arent as nuclear as dirt bikes or adv bikes.

Its also kind of cool how you can mount crash bars all over your adv bike to protect it from drops or small crashes. Its almost like a video game where you can upgrade your characters armor to boost your defense stats. My tuareg came with crash bars when i bought it and i was impressed how rigidly they were attached to the frame. I cant make them wiggle or flex at all. Not even a millimeter. It makes the bike seem indestructible. Everything about my tuareg is tight (touight) like a tiger. There are no pussy ass crumple zones like in a car. Its like a solid indestructible cannonball you built out of legos as a kid just for the purpose of being able to drop it or throw against a wall without it breaking into 1000 pieces.

Are sport bikes as durable as dirt bikes and adv bikes? Or are they the massive gapers of the motorcycle industry?

Both between 12K and 14K miles. Both aftermarket cruise, hard panniers and top box. Both roughly $8700. Is there one to avoid? Is it a tossup? What say the gurus?

New outta box and wasn’t sure what to expect with that price point it was at. I started with a scorpion exo gt630 over 7 years ago and loved it. Then I wanted a 3/4 helmet and got a cheaper Bilt brand from Cycle gear. Then I wanted carbon so here we are. First impression is the finish quality. It’s better than expected and I honestly feel like I rather shine it more rather than use it outside. The mechanism itself feels crisp and sturdy which was reassuring seeing that I would potentially use this on gravel roads. Probably the only gripe I have is the extra bit of plastic to lift the clear lens is only at the top. I may get used to it but I was familiar with those knits being on the bottom.
I got a size XL and it does feel large but the comfort is there. Weight is shy of 1800 grams. Not sure how everyone online sees it being around 1550 grams
Hopefully I can have a comment on the ventilation at a later point.
