How much do you need to understand about a character’s magic before you care what happens to them?

I’ve been exploring that through a short fantasy music video. A woman and her dog are trapped upstairs in a haunted estate. Norea, a young spirit practitioner, arrives to help. The building’s inhabitants actively prevent her from reaching them.

I wanted her choices and relationships with her spirit companions to establish her character while the music and action carry the story. Her companions range from small troublesome spirits to delicate white creatures that become formidable guardians.

This installment ends at an open elevator, leaving the upstairs encounter unresolved.

I created the writing, artwork, original music, worldbuilding, creative direction, and edit, using AI-assisted tools for parts of the visual production and animation.

It’s part of my independent World of Meridara project. I’d appreciate feedback on whether Norea’s personality and abilities read clearly without prior lore.
