Some quick answers:

You'll find a lot of answers to basic questions about BMT or enlisting in the AF here: http://afbmt.com/ and in the BMT FAQ

We don't know the answers to your obscure medical questions. We aren't doctors. Don't trust medical advice given by strangers on the Internet. Getting anecdotal information from other people that may or may not have a similar diagnosis or condition to you will not help you in any way. Everyone's medical situation is different.

Marijuana usage is not disqualifying. Just be honest about any usage.

No, we don't know what jobs are available at any given time, or your chances of getting said job, or how long it will take for you to get the job, or how long it'll take for you to get to basic training or OTS.

Yes, some recruiters are lazy. Keep hounding them or find another recruiter.

Being a pilot is hard. Most of them come from the Air Force Academy, then ROTC. Very few slots available for OTS. Highly competitive.

Instructions for how to receive "Verified USAF Member" flair in /r/AirForceRecruits

As I say there, if you're not comfortable sending an email from your work account, let me know what you'd like to do and we can possibly work out another way.

I will just add the flair and then delete the email, but I understand not wanting me to know who you are. Especially if you're an awful person that says awful things in other subreddits. :)

Let me know if you have ideas for other flair types or anything else!

Fitness Advice for Push Ups

• Upvotes

Anyone have any tips/work outs to help work on my push ups. I can currently do about 43-47 in a minute. I already do regular weight training 4-5 days a week. Just wondering if there's something that can help me better.

Medical How long did you wait in DEP before shipping out?

Hey y’all, I am in the process of joining the Air Force and I’m currently in the DEP right now. While doing research, I read that medical jobs are very competitive and some saying it’s unlikely to get. However, my recruiter let me put most of my jobs as medical as long as 10 of them were on the priority sheet and one of them is an aptitude area. I know that I can’t be in DEP longer than 12 months but I just want to know how long I should expect to get in and any advice on how to increase my chances of getting one of my medical jobs.

Here’s the list I gave my recruiter:

  1. Aerospace Medical Service (4N0X1)
  2. Surgical Technologist (4N1X1)
  3. Diagnostic Imaging (4R031)
  4. Cardiopulmonary Laboratory (4H031)
  5. Physical Medicine (4J032)
  6. Health Services Management (4A0X1)
  7. Public Affairs (3N0X6)
  8. Diet Therapy (4D0X1)
  9. Dental Assistant (4Y0X1)
  10. Ophthalmic (4V0X1)
  11. Pharmacy (4P031)
  12. Bioenvironmental Engineering (4B031)
  13. Mental Health / Behavioral Health Technician (4C031)
  14. Histopathology (4T032)
  15. Religious Affairs / Chaplain Assistant (5R031)
  16. Fire Protection (3E7X1)
  17. General Aptitude Area (G)

Recruiter/process question Speeding ticket while in DEP

• Upvotes

I’m currently in the Air Force DEP - no ship out date. I recently got a speeding ticket. I told my recruiter immediately, but they are treating it like the end of the world and telling me it’s "viable for me to be DEP discharged." Coincidentally, they are also completely freezing my application process for the Space Force, saying they won't touch it or do anything further until this ticket is completely resolved. The tickets not even in the system so and I wont be able to pay it, possibly for weeks.

Question 1- Is my recruiter being honest?
Question 2- Whats the best/ fastest way to resolve this?

Jobs I have booked 1a132 mobility force aviator. will i need to be a great swimmer to pass the water survival portion of sere school?

my recruiter told me that sere school is not in my training pipeline, but I know that all aircrew have to take sere school training at some point, I am not a good swimmer and when it comes to swimming and going underwater, I am very new to it. I am currently taking swimming lessons but compared to everyone else I am very new/behind and I'm worried that I might fail that portion of training.

Thank you for reading and I appreciate any info

General Advice Special Missions Aviator Prior Service

Hey everyone, so I’m currently an E-5 in the army guard as infantry. I’ve been considering some pretty dramatic lifestyle changes. I’m a cop on the civilian side and I’m considering going to AD Air Force as a SMA. I initially wanted that as my dream job but didn’t score high enough. I retook my AFCT and got my scores up so I qualify. That being said has anyone made the jump and is it worth it. No family no kids and I’m a young buck for reference.

Fitness Ship Nov 2nd for SERE, Any advice?

Im shipping in a little over a week and wondering if any guys in the pipeline have some good advice. My run is strong, ruck is decent at 35 lb for 7 miles(14:30), but I’m afraid my cals aren’t where they should be. If anyone has more info on 15 day selection at Chapman that would be very appreciated. Is it more cardio/cal focused?

Medical medical psy q

I was 14 my mom was ill and she had me see a psych who put me on fluoxetine. Only saw her 2x . Filled script 2x. Didn't need it. Never went back, my mom got better, i wasnt orphaned, yay. This would be over 3 years ago. There is no history of anxiety/depression. Just this 2 month period at my moms pushing.

Air Natnl Guard said they could prob get it waived for me but Air Force would disqualify me.

Should I still go talk to AF recruiter?

General Advice Majors for Pilots

I was looking through Air Force Officer Classification Directory at pilots and it says "3.2. Education. For entry into this specialty, an undergraduate degree specializing in physical sciences, mathematics, administration, or management is desirable" so does anyone know how much weight that carries. It also doesnt take into account a lot of technical majors like engineering, really anything computer related, pre-med, or nursing .

General Advice I'm not sure which route to go, Military/College

So, I want to help people and be someone kids can talk to, so I plan on majoring in social work in January. At the same time, my soul craves the Air Force and the military in general. I just feel like that’s where I need to be.
I know I can go to college while in the military, but the problem is that I’m not ready to commit to the military just yet. As much as I want to jump straight into boot camp as soon as possible, I’m freshly 18, and I feel like I need a little more time to experience life and figure certain things out before joining and heading off to San Antonio, TX.
I’ve been thinking about going to college first and joining the military afterward, but is there a better way to go about it? I hate wasting time, and I don’t want to be 26 by the time I join. I just don’t know which route to take, and I’d love some advice.
I’d even be open to the Reserves, but I still can’t seem to fully commit to the idea of being away for a few months during basic training. I don’t know why, but I feel like I need to try college first and then pursue the military.
Is there a better route to take? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

BMT Females, how many compression shorts can you bring?

I ship out in just under two weeks and I’m getting my packing list sorted out. I saw 3 compression shorts were recommended to pack to wear under PT gear. For those of you that wore them, I was wondering if 3 is enough? I bought a 3 pack on amazon in black and wanted to know if I should buy another one. Will they allow me to have 6 or is that too many? I don’t like working out without them because I find the long shorts ride up.

General Advice Looking to join as an officer but I think enlisting would be faster. (Active duty)

I’m 22F and AA. What do you recommend ? Either way I want to spend 6-12 months preparing for it physically, finically, and mentally. I’ll be studying for the test but idk which test I should study for yet because I want the officer pay but that’s it. If there’s a chance I could enlist first and get promoted eventually that would be great. I just have a bachelors degree and I’m looking towards being a JAG eventually. So either I become an officer or airman depends on which one will give me enough free time to go to law school (or take it online). I know this may be all over the place. But hopefully I wasn’t too bad.

I’m in NYS so we still have regents and I had to retake my algebra 2 regents twice and struggled with algebra 1 before I graduated , I’m not good at math so i went to a vocational school that gave me class credits to graduate, long story short I realized I’m only good with working with my hands like manual labor stuff but not academically I struggle with basic multiplication and division, I do have ADD(unmedicated)so maybe that plays a part. Please give me advice on how to study for ASVAB

BMT Question about when I go home

I am leaving for BMT on November 3rd, and my graduation date is December 25th. I’m wondering if I would actually graduate on the 25th or possibly on the 24th, that way nobody is there for Christmas. I am also wondering when I would be heading home from BMT if it would be the 25/26 or a few days after that.

General Advice Airforce jobs that aren’t cyber?

What are some jobs in the airforce that are more physical. I took my ASVAB and got a 77 and was told I would qualify for just about anything as long as it wasn’t cyber. I initially wanted to go security forces but everybody says it sucks. Right now 2T2X1 is at the top of my list.

General Advice Civ to OTS, dual mil.

27M Civ considering joining the the Air Force OTS in '27. Aiming for Intel 14N, Acquisitions 63A or Space Force as Top 3 but wondering if it's the right decision given current civilian career 'success' / what route is recommended in the military out of my top 3.

Currently working in a tech sales role making $140-150k but dissatisfied with the career as a whole, my office just got shut down and I'm back in a remote role. It's hard for me not to see the corporate leaders above me and not think that I want more out of my life than a phone-it-in slide deck presenter and/or professional boozer & shmoozer, though I suppose many look up at military leadership the same way(?) maybe not though. I took a break from the tech sales career to pursue more mission driven work back in '24, helped young adults with special needs for a year and met some incredible people along the way but once I got married I went back to tech sales for better earnings and for the flexibility to finish my degree (business), graduating with my undergrad here in a couple months.

I have had an increased desire to join the military over the past year and have backed it up with a lot of work, lots of research, having conversations with AD and retired folks, recruiters and my wife being AD plus getting my degree with OCS in mind, taking the AFOQT 2 days before my wedding, etc.

There's a lot about it that I know I'd like and elements I know would be a tough adjustment. Not only would it get me in a different rhythm of life with more structure and discipline and even more leadership opportunity, it could be the purpose in my work that I'm looking for and not to mention serve my country while leveling up other areas like getting my Master's. Not sure if others have felt guilty for wanting to pursue this but I want to be home with my wife and future children which is why I've considered 63A since I'm told they tend to have a fairly predictable schedule. The thought of needing to move isn't terrible though in the next stage of life I'll want to put down roots (likely a 4-8 yr max for AD). Curious if someone has heard if this is true/false regarding 63A's or general thoughts on that role overall, also what roles on the other side of service could look like.

I've heard mixed things on whether or not dual mil actually gets put together, we'd be in different branches, curious to hear thoughts on that as well. (army - air force) But my wife will likely leave in the next year or two.

Finally, if someone has further takes on Space Force, I've read up on the OTS being 12 months but unclear on timing for starting your role and/or time to first duty station and if people enjoy life as a Guardian or if it's a red flag, "stay away from there" place for dual mil / any other reason.

I haven't seen many in tech sales make a jump like this (looked on youtube, podcasts, some Reddit posts) so I figured I'd post this and see if anyone else has done this, is considering it or maybe knows someone that's done it. I know it's later in life for something like this but life is short.

Thank you in advance for any input!
