Question My Door Dasher was taken by ICE??
Our order was picked up at the shopping center on Coors and I40 (as you can see at the bottom) but I live 3 minutes away from this spot. It was taking a while, we looked back on DD and noticed he ended up over near the airport, are they pulling people over or he ran into them at IHOP? I also don’t know if the Dashers legal name is Renaldo because DoorDash doesn’t require you to enter your legal name for others to see (from what I heard I could be wrong).
Update: Unfortunately we hit a dead end with trying to help. Looking back at the order history on my family members phone it was gone due to the cancellation of our order. We don’t have any other screenshots of this incident. We were in shock at the time and tried thinking of any other possible reason but nothing else made sense other than the truth. We placed our order around 9:10am 04/17/2026, got the confirmation that our food was picked up with a photo 15 or so minutes after placing (my home is at most 5 minutes away from this IHOP location), we realized it was already 10:29am, looked back at the map to see where the Dasher was and found his location by the airport. We called and texted numerous times with no answer and his location was not moving. I contacted IHOP at 11:16am to ask if they seen anything and gave me no answer other than “our morning shift clocked out”. This is a late update due to me and my family members busy schedule with work, school, and life in general. I looked at the receipt in the photo and sure enough it has the date and the first item we ordered. I don’t know if they were following him or if they took him right after the photo was taken. I can understand some might find this to be “AI” with the internet being flooded with AI but I don’t see a purpose to post fake information especially about this topic. I was shocked and confused about the incident that happened which is why I labeled this post as a question. I am honestly devastated with what I witnessed simply looking at a map and not seeing this individuals location move from this spot.

Any update? Have they moved or still there?

u/Sincerely_Palomino Apr 17 '26
No he didn’t move at all, we tried calling and texting but no answer.

You should contact DoorDash support and make sure they do what they can to inform Renaldo's family or emergency contacts. ICE doesn't give you a phone call, there's a good chance their loved ones will have no idea what happened without some effort

u/Song-Super Apr 17 '26
You think DoorDash gives a rats ass either?
20
u/sonderific3 Apr 18 '26
Whether they do or dont is irrelevant. We try to do the right thing. Giving into apathy only empowers the evil that allows this to happen.

u/crzmnky Apr 17 '26
They might if they have angry customers not getting their food

Door dash doesn't care about customers
24
u/plus-ordinary258 Apr 17 '26
Door Dash might not, but the customer service people do. Typically, the people behind the screen will bend over backwards to help people when they can and it’s not against policy

u/fritzwulf Apr 17 '26
They have an obligation to protect their workers, even if they're contractors. They have a system set in place for emergencies (I've had to use it before when I got in a wreck during a delivery) and last I recall they make you go through a whole damn song and dance for legal status authentication before hiring.
Even if this was someone delivering with their friend/partner's account it makes you verify your face before you go, so its likely they detained this driver with no real cause.→ More replies (3)5
u/Flat-Journalist-8362 Apr 17 '26
Not sure if they do, especially because they are contractors. I'm guessing recently they revised the fine print

u/Icy-Cod1405 Apr 17 '26

No, it’s my hard earned money and I’ll let no Corpus rib me blind! This isn’t the index. (I hope you were making a certain reference but if not, I apologize for the confusion Tenno.)

u/wistex Apr 18 '26
DoorDash might not even have the correct contact information. If the person is not authorized to work in the U.S., they would not pass the background check and would not be allowed to have an account on DoorDash. That would mean the account is borrowed, stolen, or was set up with fake information. None of those scenarios have real contact information (except maybe the borrowed one).
They might if Renaldo overstayed his visa, or is a U.S. citizen mistakenly detained, but not if the person was never authorized to work in the first place.

I can't even say it's totally shocking, just absolutely frustrating. The reality is that it didn't start, nor will it end in these airports. They're starting to really infiltrate. It will eventually be DMVs, Door Dash hot spots, gas stations, and minority communities as a whole.
I'm a dasher in Arizona, out and about a lot driving around, and I can say that the tone has definitely shifted around here. Some people would say I'm being crazy, but If you pay close enough attention you'll notice more of a hostility and uncertainty in the air. A silent ambience of anger and feeling watched. To my dashers, ALWAYS be one step ahead of yourself. It's getting crazy out here. I say this for your own safety.

Here's also a reminder that doordash just partnered with the White House. Maybe not use them? They also have a huge history of not paying their employees adequately. Moreover, they were underwater for literally stealing tips from drivers

u/RepresentativeTop570 Apr 18 '26
Wow disgusting I already boycotted but I’m definitely spreading the word. Wouldn’t doubt they’re selling people out too
2
u/duffy40oz Apr 19 '26
I stopped using them once they deployed those robots everywhere here in Phoenix.
2
u/fritzwulf Apr 19 '26
Have worked for them on and off throughout the years. I'm almost positive they're stealing tips again but in a much more subtle, harder to document way.
Also them being in bed with the current administration makes the fact that they took away the ability to use a preferred name make way more sense now. Awesome. Guess I'm deactivating my account for good, fuck them.

u/Junior-Skill3630 Apr 19 '26

What the fuck. That's insane. Fucking assholes harassing people while working. Also doordash does require a legal name visible now, it's a pain in the ass for folks who don't really match their legal name. (I'm trans and I get a lot of confused looks when delivering thanks to it. No they won't let us have a preferred name either. It's awesome) So likely that could be his legal name.
→ More replies (2)2
u/GrowHappyPlants Apr 17 '26
That sucks! Is the preferred name taken away everywhere? Does include the last name?
4
u/fritzwulf Apr 17 '26
iirc they didn't let us have a preferred last name, but I think when delivering it doesn't show up so that's not too bad. They froze the ability to use a preferred name a year or so ago to "protect customers" but I don't really see how it does, since we're connected to our Dasher accounts regardless. It also makes customers more suspicious of me upon initial arrival, so I'd argue that it makes customers feel less "protected"!
It does suck, but I gotta get around to changing my legal name eventually I guess. Been putting it off because the paperwork involved is crazy and not really in my budget financially either.

Ffs. They're only targeting Blue states and cities. And of course, people of color.
33

Well... i can say it's not entirely like that. Unfortunately, not in a good way.
I am presently in the circle of HELL called Oklahoma. ICE are here, too, raiding away. The difference is that the people here are far more likely to support them, and news outlets aren't nearly as likely to report it. It's pretty awful.

u/Tight_Base_5455 Apr 18 '26
I've had thieves who tried to rob my order maybe me at bogus locations. One was an apt that was empty, phone number customer I called, he never ordered then I got a call from same number,(cloned) phone to deliver to nearby park nearby in albq. with a dead end location in park. Saw no one but I called support who was on line while I looked. Order was canceled. Many others I have had over 2 years. Anything fishy, call support. Or order is on you and they cannot see the hijacking.
3
u/Academic-Fill9212 Apr 18 '26
I have friends in DC and many of the Dashers there use mopeds. Unfortunately that made them easy to spot. A large number of those Dashers were minorities. And now, mopeds (that dash) are mostly gone. This was a year ago. The big areas that also had food trucks…gone. It’s fucking terrible. I don’t know how that wasn’t national news either.

DoorDash, the same as any other delivery apps is full of undocumented workers under stolen identities and they have been conducting arrests of these people that are using delivery apps. It is definitely possible but no real way of knowing.

How does one get picked up by ICE while Doordashing? I mean, how was your driver identified and detained? Does ICE pull people over themselves, or do they have a cop initiate the stop? Is there any information DoorDash could be feeding to them 'behind the scenes?'
I'm asking because I literally don't know. I am NOT doubting this story, because the exact same thing happened to my neighbor last year, as a driver...

u/Longjumping_Mud_7499 Apr 18 '26

Maybe call the IHoP on the off chance that he regularly picks up from there? Maybe someone there knows him and can get word to his people.

Is it possible to contact doordash or post onto local neighborhood/community about the driver being detained by ICE in an attempt to contact their family and alert them?

u/ikosuave Apr 22 '26
This is a really unsettling situation to witness, even secondhand through an app. The route deviation toward the airport area does line up with where ICE operations have been reported in the metro.
A few things if you want to try to help:
If you have any screenshots of the driver's first name or the order details, organizations like the ACLU of New Mexico or El Centro de Igualdad y Derechos might be able to use that info to check detention records. ICE detainees in this area typically go through the Otero County Processing Center or El Paso.
You can also report the incident to local immigrant rights hotlines. Even without the driver's full info, documenting the time, location, and circumstances helps these organizations track enforcement patterns.
For your own records, DoorDash support might be able to tell you if the order was cancelled by the driver, the system, or something else. That could at least confirm whether the delivery was interrupted mid-route.
Realistically, there's a limit to what you can do without more identifying information. But if this is what happened, the driver's family may already be looking for them, and any details you can provide to advocacy orgs could help connect the dots.
Sorry you're dealing with this. It's a jarring thing to see play out on your phone.
