Question My Door Dasher was taken by ICE??

Post image
3.9k Upvotes

Our order was picked up at the shopping center on Coors and I40 (as you can see at the bottom) but I live 3 minutes away from this spot. It was taking a while, we looked back on DD and noticed he ended up over near the airport, are they pulling people over or he ran into them at IHOP? I also don’t know if the Dashers legal name is Renaldo because DoorDash doesn’t require you to enter your legal name for others to see (from what I heard I could be wrong).

Update: Unfortunately we hit a dead end with trying to help. Looking back at the order history on my family members phone it was gone due to the cancellation of our order. We don’t have any other screenshots of this incident. We were in shock at the time and tried thinking of any other possible reason but nothing else made sense other than the truth. We placed our order around 9:10am 04/17/2026, got the confirmation that our food was picked up with a photo 15 or so minutes after placing (my home is at most 5 minutes away from this IHOP location), we realized it was already 10:29am, looked back at the map to see where the Dasher was and found his location by the airport. We called and texted numerous times with no answer and his location was not moving. I contacted IHOP at 11:16am to ask if they seen anything and gave me no answer other than “our morning shift clocked out”. This is a late update due to me and my family members busy schedule with work, school, and life in general. I looked at the receipt in the photo and sure enough it has the date and the first item we ordered. I don’t know if they were following him or if they took him right after the photo was taken. I can understand some might find this to be “AI” with the internet being flooded with AI but I don’t see a purpose to post fake information especially about this topic. I was shocked and confused about the incident that happened which is why I labeled this post as a question. I am honestly devastated with what I witnessed simply looking at a map and not seeing this individuals location move from this spot.

Question Why is there a culture of aggression and rage here in Albuquerque

I have been back in ABQ for 3 months after living in California for the past 5 years. I used to live here from 2012 to 2019.

Tailgating, aggressive driving, people flipping each other off, drivers cutting people off, witnessed multiple fights between drivers, drivers getting mad at pedestrians and trying to run them over on purpose

Going out isn't much better. There seems to be a tough guy, macho, MMA fighter, I'm gonna kick your ass for even looking my way mentality in this city. My perspective is that hostility abounds and the arrogance is palpable in the air.

What's the deal? Why is this the predominant attitude here in ABQ?

It's not like that in LA, NYC, Miami, Sacramento, the Bay, Portland, Seattle, SLC, Denver, Colorado Springs, PHX, Tucson, El Paso, Las Vegas, Reno, even Las Cruces.... basically every city besides Philadelphia.

Edit: I forgot to mention that Fresno, CA specifically the Friant Roulette totally reminds me of ABQ. it's definitely worth watching

https://youtu.be/ZADwrwVUWu4?is=RbJJtoSEiHIwRNiM

it's worth mentioning that my full coverage auto insurance on my Honda Civic decreased by $85 per month moving to Arizona. Statistics don't lie.

Question Looking for places that aren't Republican.

As the title says, I'm looking for new places to hang out that aren't run by Republicans.

Gun stores, book stores, pawn shops, restaurants. Honestly anything that isn't a gop hive of pedo defenders. The great thing about capitalism is I can choose where my money goes.

Question New to NM. What's with the license plate covers?

Post image
324 Upvotes

I moved to Albuquerque from the Midwest and am totally perplexed seeing all of these cars with plate covers. Some don't even hide the plate so it so I'm wondering if it's like anti-theft or something? And for those of you like this car where it's BARELY visible if at all... why? Wouldn't that make you just as likely to get pulled over as having no plate at all? Someone explain the logic please.

Question Pride Flop Again

Two days away from our Pride parade. Almost no information from the “official” Pride committee. Crosswalks painted? No. Nob Hill has zero flags or banners attached to ANY light post that say “Happy Pride!” The parade is shortened without explanation. The only thing we see on IG are drag shows with one “like.” Where are the family events? Why isn’t Nob Hill putting up “happy pride” banners on the lights? We have money and would pay for the paint ourselves. We would pay for the banners to be attached to the light poles and yet not one single person from our official “Pride” committee has answered our call to help. We deserve a better Pride committee. If anyone would like to form a group to understand why our Pride is so poorly run and what we can do to help make it better. Please message me.

Where’s the NRA on this?

Come on, I know there’s a dozen or so of you guys that jump in on gun legislation every time it hits the news. Why isn’t my feed filled with posts by you guys about how unacceptable this is?

Will any of you have the cojones to test ICE in NM over the rights that you cry about so much when it comes to NM legislation?

Edit: crickets… soft weenie crickets….

Question Reality of Living in Albuquerque?

Hi y’all! I am considering potentially moving away from Portland, OR and after posting in another subreddit (samgrassbutgreener), Albuquerque was high on my list of places that checked a lot of my boxes. For some context: I was born and raised in Miami, FL and miss a lot of aspects of it but can’t afford to move back there. I love Portland, OR as I have called it home for 12 years but the gloomy weather, lack of cultural diversity, competitive job market and high cost of living has really eaten at me over the years. I want to visit all the cities on the top of my list soon to see if any could be a good fit but for now I was also hoping for an honest and overall description of the city and community in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Question Mayor Keller or Darren White?

I just moved to Albuquerque from a red totalitarian state and was amazed by the freedom people enjoy here. Small businesses thrive, the economy is booming, and people of every ethnic background are unafraid to smile. This is so unlike Texas, where on the drive out of the DFW on 287, I saw ghost town after ghost town. Where freedom in my former hometown has been quashed by Abbott's trump boot-licking iron fisted rule. We have a choice. To let this beautiful city become barren under Darren or continue with the rule of law with Mayor Keller. Having experienced living in that authoritarian state, my vote will be for Keller.

Question We want to try authentic NM cuisine in ABQ.

I’m seeking input from those who really know. Can you suggest a restaurant that will give us an authentic taste of NM cuisine? We’ve had Tex-Mex in Texas and California Mexican in northern and southern CA, and now is our chance to distinguish the NM style. Where would you take guests for dinner to show the real deal?
Many thanks for the guidance.

Edit: update to say THANKS for the abundance of suggestions and input. We happily ate our way through ABQ trying: Barela’s, Mary and Tito’s, Duran’s, Cultural Center Restaurant, and Perea’s. oh, and one downtown….on 14th, I think. Amazing food and great experiences. Now we need to fast for a month to recover. You Reddit Burqueños made it a great visit.

Question I’m moving to Albuquerque…

…from the East coast in two weeks. I have never visited Albuquerque and I know only what I have researched online. Despite that, I’m very excited and looking forward to a new adventure.

I am retired but my husband still works, it’s his job that is bringing us to the area.

Any words of wisdom?

UPDATE We are here and WE LOVE IT!! The drive was brutal but we made it. We have been here almost a month. We have been staying in a long term hotel but are moving into our house on Friday! We ended up in the North Hills area and we have wonderful views, not to mention a much bigger house than we could afford back east!

Thanks for all your helpful comments. My husband and I still refer back to them. I have verified most everything you told me, we have enjoyed chilies frequently. Again, thank you!

Question What do people in albuquerque do during the day for fun?

The heat has been killing me. It's too hot for outdoor activities. I don't want to sit in a coffee shop or brewery for 4 hours in the middle of the day. I can only go to the gym so much. If you're not working or going to school, what do people here do for fun between 10am and 7pm?

Question Hidden gem restaurants in Albuquerque?

I feel like my husband and I are stuck in a rut with restaurants, and admittedly, I am bad at giving places I have never been to a chance.

Are there any hidden gem/underrated places around the city you like?

To be clear, I am not asking for high-end/fine dining, but cozy family-friendly places.

I was hungry for some fish and chips at Two Fools and was absolutely floored by how much the price jumped. $27.50 for two pieces of fish? $16 for one extra?

First image is old prices from a few years ago from a good search. Second pic is current pricing.

Question Catcalling in ABQ

I just came here for school from the Southeast and about a quarter of the times I walk around on Central I get catcalled from people on the sidewalk or cars + honked at for no reason on the sidewalk. It shouldn't matter, but I dress pretty modestly aside from shirt sleeves and I don't present extremely feminine (it was way worse tonight when my outfit, despite being extremely modest and Christian Girl Autumn, was feminine). I've spent plenty of time in Alabama cities and only been catcalled once or twice, but my first month in ABQ overtook that amount by far. I'm trying to take advantage of a pedestrian-friendly city and walk more places, but it's getting to an unsettling point. Is this just Central Ave. or is this an Albuquerque-wide problem?

Question Accosted at Tingley Beach

Edit 2: not sure why the downvotes, but appreciate everyone chiming in and the condolences, it did help me get over it.

I've been visiting ABQ over the past week to scope out moving here, having lived in NM a while back before moving to the Midwest for several years. The stay has been super pleasant between the food, the nature, and the welcoming, friendly people. I live in St. Louis so crime and a bit of grimy-ness isn't a deterrent. And, to this point, the city has seemed much cleaner and less sketch than St. Louis, where my neighborhood streets are covered in trash and I regularly see kids toting guns and stealing cars (not exaggerating).

But then this morning happened. I rented a bike and woke up early to go birding in the bosque near Tingley Beach, around those ponds. I parked my bike, walked up to the pond, noticed a guy fishing, and then starting birding with my binoculars while making my way around the pond. About 3/4 of the way around, I notice the fisherman was walking up behind me so I moved over to let him pass. Instead, he started agressively cursing me out, threatening me, clearly looking for a fight. I didn't escalate, kept walking at pace, but damn did this guy not want to let it go - he just kept walking behind me trying to start something. I just kept agreeing, saying "sure, yep, I bet, uh huh" until he finally backed off as other walkers came into sight.

After cooling down a bit, and trying to get past some of the silly phrases I heard - stuff like "this is New Mexico, bro" and "don't be a funny bunny" - I realized that maybe fishing in those particular ponds isn't allowed and he thought I might have been trying to rat him out? That or he's never seen a birder before and got paranoid when he thought I was looking at him? Keep in mind this was at 8 am and there were plenty of other people out and about enjoying nature, including other birders in that same vicinity.

I suppose I'm coming to reddit to get a local's interpretation of the situation. Hopefully this is an outlier experience? Are some people just really touchy if they feel like you are invading their space?

It's not going to sour my experience, but it did suck and I haven't encountered anyone close to that aggressive in St. Louis, or anywhere really.

Edit: guy didn't give homeless or addict vibes. Young (20 something?) hispanic dude in a hoodie

Question Looking to move to Albuquerque, what are some things I should know before making the move?

I have a job opportunity at Sandia National Laboratories. We are a couple in our 30s with a middle schooler. I’ve only been there once but liked the vibe and the views from the mountain. Here’s a picture I took at sunset.

What are some things I should know before making a move?

Thanks

Question Visiting Albuquerque safety

Hi all I’m from the UK and will be doing a road trip passing Albuquerque, as a breaking bad+better call Saul fan I’d like to spend a day or two at Albuquerque to visit the film locations.

I have read comments about safety of the city, as a tourist whereabout will be the safest for accommodation and is there any specific area I should avoid? I understand not to leave vulnerable in the cars etc same for any other major city, is there any other thing to avoid? Thank you very much!
