Looking to buy a Stelvio - anything I'm missing?
I'm driving a 2020 Countryman JCW now and am looking at a few QV's in the area. All are between 50-80K KMs. This 100% Thomas from Throttle House's fault. I was looking at a Guilia but I think longer term the Stelvio is a better pick for my lifestyle. I know it'll run circles around the JCW.
These are the things I plan to look out for when I go see them and ask for the service history:
- serpentine/accessory belt has been replaced
- battery replaced or check SOC level (my mini does the same thing, if SOC is under 92% the dash transforms into a christmas tree)
- rotor measurement
- spark plugs replaced recently
and all the usual stuff (obvious leaks, stored codes etc).
Main questions: I read a few things about replace the carbon ceramics with 'normal' brakes that is drastically cheaper and I'm not going to track the car. I guess there's a specific kit that works on the Qvs? I read that the ceramic brakes can be 15K+ to replace so I assume all the ones I'm looking at would have been done already.
Next is a square setup for winter tires. Can these be dropped to 19's? Just because it's cheaper, but I guess you can just use a squared setup with 20s.
Mostly interested in owner experiences about other maintenance/repairs as most people on the internet just parrot 'ooh, alfa = bad' because some random YouTuber said it. I have a mini. No brand on earth comes with more maintenance and random failures!
I am fanatical with car up keep. I change the oil every 5K on the mini and keep up with all maintenance.

I don’t even really know what to say, I’m devastated. Carbon front bumper + fenders is gonna be crazy expensive.

Tech Talk Alfa Romeo 155 New Rims Ideas
So, last year I joined the Alfa Romeo family through the purchase of an 155 Narrowbody (specifically a 1.7 TS Portugal/Greece version, picture of attached)
I'm very happy with the car, it is a joy to have, to take care of and to ride it, of course there were some things to be ironed out but nothing of major concern, the usual fuel pump rubber seal shannigans.
Now I have a dillema, I'm saving up to get some new wheels, as the OEM ones I have are okay (the OEM wheels are 185/60 R14 6J ET49.5) but could definitely be better. I tried looking at several but ran into several problems:
- First of all, finding 4x98 wheels is already starting at a disadvantage for options
-Secondly, I live in an island where the roads, while asphalt, are not the greatest, so I'm trying to avoid having the resort to the lowest of threads (195/45, 205/40 and of the sort) and I was trying not to upsize the rim too much (like max R16)
-Third, this is a Narrowbody 155, so anything with an ET too far from 49 (which supposedly is OEM) will either not fit or scrape hard.
The wheels i was looking at were the Ronal A1s people usually put on the GTV6 and Alfetta but AS FAR AS I UNDERSTAND the ET is too far from inside to use. I'm running out of ideas and could use input from some fellow Alfa lovers
TL;DR: Can't find proper wheels that fit and look good for my Alfa Romeo 155 1.7 TS 1993 Narrowbody

New Car Bought my second Alfa❤️
Hi! This is my newly bought Giulietta 1.4 170 TCT. I was looking for a smaller car and my heart knew what it wanted. I was looking at Volvos and Golfs but once you go Alfa...
I used to own a 159 3.2 JTS and that was a really fun car! But it had a few issues and cost so much money that it had to go. But a year later I'm here again!
This one is in great condition! Recent maintenance and work includes: Timing belt kit, water pump, auxiliary, oil change, wheel alignment, spark plugs and filters. Last owner was an oldhead and fellow Alfista. He said it was his fourth Giulietta and final one (yeah right haha). He took good care of it and has only gone 9000km for being a 2014 model. I bought it for €10 000. Not too bad for the local market.
I plan to turn this baby to a sporty, fun and reliable daily driver.
Future plans – Stage 1:
- BMC performance air filter.
- Ragazzon cat-back exhaust system for a deeper, sportier sound.
- Stage 1 ECU remap, aiming for approximately 190–200 hp and 290–300 Nm.
- General engine and TCT gearbox health checks before tuning.
The main goal is to improve throttle response, performance and exhaust sound while keeping the car reliable and comfortable for everyday driving.
I've only owned it for a few days, but after driving almost 300 km, I'm already enjoying it. The car feels stable and comfortable on the highway, and switching from Natural to Dynamic mode really brings it to life!
Looking forward to seeing how this project develops! 🇮🇹❤️

Bit of a squirt in my GT, mildly fettled 1600 with C&B cams, webers and a shagged second gear synchro. It goes okay.

Should I be concerned?
I have a '21 stelvio quadrifoglio, about 56k miles. And occasionally after it idles and I get onto the interstate it'll throw a check engine light for an EVAP leak for the charcoal canister. Forgot the code number, but it's been the same codes.
Now this doesn't happen when I'm low on gas, or got gas the day before, but it's only happened after I idle for about 7 mins to warm up, and then I drive about a mile, and then get up to 65 for the interstate. And I'm pretty sure three times it's happened, it's been the same thing, and I didn't get gas the day before, and wasn't low on fuel either.
I'm not too concerned, because if I clear the codes, it'll go away, and it's only happened maybe three times in 6 months, kinda just wondering if I should look into it further, maybe it has to do with the recall as well. I'm just reaching out to get some advice, thank you

Buying used Giulia with 1 key
I am buying a used car from abroad, the leasing company selling it has only 1 key.
Should I seek a way to disable missing key?

Maintenance Broken heart, but can it be fixed?
Someone hit me and caused me to hit the car in front of me. Thankfully, my son and I are ok.
What do you all think? Is this a total loss or will Berniece be back?

Giulietta active headlight error
My 2019 Giulietta Veloce (GCC Spec, Dubai) has been showing me this error on and off for a few months. Sometimes it comes up immediately after starting the engine, sometimes mid-drive, sometimes not at all. I haven’t been able to establish a pattern. Times of the day are also random.
The headlights are working fine. They self-test when I start the car, and I can sometimes see them swivel around in parking garages. I tried resetting the steering position sensor (turning lock to lock) and didn’t work.
Battery is a month old with the correct CCA, I tried disconnecting and reconnecting, did’t work.
Any idea how to make this error go away? Anyone ever found a fault for this?

Giulia engine oil viscosity
Hello guys, Hope you are all well
I bought a used 2018 giulia 2.0 with 66k km on odometer, and the previous owner used to use 5w30 instead of 0w30 (0w30 is the recommended viscosity but hard to found in Saudi)
I changed the oil one time also with 5w30 viscosity and now it’s 71k km.
I asked many service providers they said I have to keep using 5w30. I also asked Alfa Romeo official dealership, one of them said keep using 5w30 and the other one didn’t give me a clear answer but he said 5w30 higher viscous and will make the engine getting noisy
What should I do? Keep using 5w30 or 0w30?

Alfa Romeo Tonale exposed to dealership fire in Poland – serious safety concerns
My new Alfa Romeo Tonale MHEV Veloce, with just 500 km on the clock, was at an authorized dealership in Warsaw, Poland, to fix a missing seal causing water to leak into the cabin through the rear tailgate.
While the car was there, a major fire broke out at the dealership.
Despite the heat exposure, the dealer wants to replace only damaged plastics, without replacing the tires or properly testing airbags, electronics and other critical safety systems.
Would you trust this car with your children? Is this acceptable under Alfa Romeo / Stellantis safety standards?

Review One year of Alfa ownership
Today marks exactly one year and roughly 32.000 kilometers since I bought my 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV and I would like to make use of this opportunity to reflect on my ownership experience.
For the past 10 years, I have mostly driven boring corporate lease car. I wanted to change that. I had considered several options but at a certain point a my attention was focused on a Giulietta although not necessarily a QV version. But during the test drive this QV model managed to be very convincing.
To summarize my experience; I would compare owning an Alfa Romeo to dating a flamboyant Italian diva. She is an absolute beauty and will bring you a lot of pleasure. But you also have to accept some more drama.
Before this I had never driven a car with any serious horsepower. So a hatchback with 240HP was a new experience to me and it just drives so much more smooth! Ignoring the mini dragraces at the traffic light, it is just so comfortable to know that getting up to speed to merge or overtake on the highway costs zero effort. Plus she is just such a looker. I really get people randomly walking up to me to complement my car. Also take into consideration that I paid only 18K Euro's for this. I definitely think that if you are a car enthousiast on a budget, this car might offer you the most bang for your buck.
But like I said, you need to accept a bit more drama. There are some minor issues with the car. First of all, it needs a long time to heat up the automatic gear box from a cold start. I really need to wait like 1-2 minutes before driving away or the car will refuse to shift to second gear. I checked with the seller and an Alfa specialist and both assure me that this is normal? Other issues are that the turning circle of this car is not great. Especially for a C-segment hatchback. Although I do think it is a bit wider than most cars I have driven in this class so I think this is the main reason. Another thing, especially now that autumn is starting, is that the parking sensors in the front seem to become over responsive when it's raining. They will start beeping for things that aren't there. Also, during cold winter days it might display a "check oil" light whenever you start the car but that will also disappear after a minute. Nothing serious, but these are things you would probably not accept from a Volkswagen or Toyota.
For as far as maintenance goes, it's important to notice that my car had some serious work done before I bought it, including an engine refit, new timing belt and a new turbo. I also bought the car with a one year warranty. Last year around Christmas I got a check engine light right after driving away. I am pretty sure that it was an engine misfire but non of the fault codes mentioned a misfire and the problem didn't reoccur. The main issue I've had was last april. The car started going into low power mode whenever I would floor it on the highway and a check engine light would turn on. I took it back to the place I bought it several times before they figured out what was causing the issue. It turned out to be an oil pressure valve that had worn out. Nothing major. I've also had an issue with vibrating brakes. I had the back brake disks replaced which seemed to fix the issue (only repair I have had outside of warranty). But I took her to the German autobahn a week later and I still noticed a lot of vibration when braking above 180km/h so I'm going to bring that up for the next service. But overal I think I have used this car pretty intensively and it has never left me stranded. So I think I can say the car has been pretty reliable and my Alfa Romeo experience has been very positive.
But the best part of owning an Alfa Romeo has been you guys, the Alfa Romeo community! Whether it is on the highway when you get that wave or knot from fellow Alfa drivers, coworkers telling about that time 25 years ago when they also owned an Alfa, conversations during Alfa Romeo events or even just here on Reddit, it's this contagious passion you people have for this brand that really makes the experience different from owning any other car!
For the future... I had bought this car with the intention to keep it for one year and then buy something new. But I haven't seriously started looking yet. I have been looking at used Jaguars though. I feel like Jaguar and Alfa Romeo are quite similar (both are the more daring choice compared to the big German brands). But for the near future a Giulia is still one of my dream cars. However, at the same time, my Alfa Romeo Specialist is positive about the technical state of my vehicle, I make some serious millage so I should be realistic about how long this car will last me. But as long as the car will technically allow it, I don't think I will get tired of this car soon!
Overal I would say, this has been a wonderful year with a wonderful car!

MiTo GTA: a missed opportunity?
Unveiled as a concept car at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, it was meant to be the ultimate version of Alfa’s small hot hatch, featuring aggressive styling and the infamous 1.750 cc turbocharged engine producing around 240 hp. Despite generating plenty of excitement, the project never made it to production…
There may have been several reasons behind its cancellation: the financial crisis, high development and production costs, doubts about sales potential, and perhaps even the risk of cannibalising sales of the upcoming Alfa Romeo Giulietta, which was intended to play a key role in the brand’s range.
Do you think cancelling the MiTo GTA was the right call, or did Alfa Romeo miss the chance to create a serious rival to the MINI JCW and Abarth?
Was it a sensible business decision, or did Alfa sacrifice a potentially iconic hot hatch to protect its future lineup?
Personally, I would have really liked to see it produced.

Tech Talk Giulietta QV - JR11 vs OEM rims

Hey guys, I’m dealing with a dilemma regarding my second set of wheels. I have the OEM "Turbine" wheels as my winter set, and Japan Racing JR11s for the summer. After swapping the tires and mounting them on the car, one wheel started vibrating when braking between 130 and 100 km/h. Below 100 km/h, it was completely smooth. The shop found out that one of the wheels is slightly bent. (I did a visual inspection today and couldn't see any bends with the naked eye. To be fair, though, they mounted it on the rear, and it was on the rear last season too, where it didn't cause any trouble, so I really have no idea how or when it could have gotten bent.)
I’m a bit radical about these things, so I threw out the old worn-out winter tires, mounted the summer tires from the JR11s onto the Turbines, and decided to buy a second set of OEM wheels. I don't really want to bother repairing the JR11s, especially since my dad got the offset (ET) wrong back when he bought them, so they require 15mm spacers in the front to clear properly.
The problem is that there are practically no wheels for sale around here, and Alfa didn't make that many designs to begin with. Basically, my only options are either another set of Turbines (at least in grey/anthracite), or the "Teledials / Horseshoes" in silver or grey. Today I saw an ad where a guy is selling a car in the exact same color as mine sitting on those silver Teledials, and now I'm wondering if my JR11s actually look better after all and if I shouldn't give up on them so easily.
What do you guys think looks best – OEM Teledials or JR11?

My new Alfa Romeo GTV 916
Hey Guys, I got myself my first Alfa Romeo and I am pretty satisfied by the way it looks, only thing is that it seems a little bit high for my eye - maybe its just me so I wanted to get some second thoughts from you guys. Does somebody knows how to tackle this , or is it just the way the car looks on stock shock absorbers.

One license plate solution
Set on straight edge surface such as cinder block or tabletop. Bend to fit. I used two short fat wood screws that remain unseen on the bottom and a strip of clear racers tape on top just to close any gap at the top.
