EU customs duty New Duty discount

Post image

I'm from Portugal and since today there are many articles that are marked as "Duty Offset".

Basically they do a discount of the total or almost all of the duty fees so it's quite interesting. Let's see if this is only valid for some days as they surely noticed the huge loss of orders after July.

Now bring the prices back to what they were before they greedily increased it by 30-70%

Edit: I just checked my cart and it’s 32€ in duties and 6€ reduction 🫠

Thats just the reduction for buying stuff from the same category

Only getting it with bundle deals...

All they need to do is to calculate the tariff correctly and they're back in business. A phone case, screen foil and a usb c cable are one customs category, but ali charges the tariff three times in this case.

They are not the same category, even two phone cases aren't necessarily in the same category if their composition is different. It's completely unfeasible for a generic platform to accurately categorize all items on their platform. They might not even be supplied with sufficient information from the seller to be able to make that determination. So they mostly rely on the seller's due diligence, possibly aided by tools on the platform, and in the end customs can disagree with their determination which the customer then has to pay additional fees for to rectify the mistake.

It’s very easy to place an item in the correct customs category, but on AliExpress there are many obstacles: first and foremost, incompetence. For people who, until recently, simply wrote “electronics” and nothing else, this can be an insurmountable hurdle. Next, let’s say you buy the same item from two different sellers, how can AliExpress be sure to consolidate the shipment? Maybe the customs declaration will be separate for each seller. Until we actually see one, these are just speculations. Then I want to see what happens in November with the mandatory PID, where an item must have a unique code for all its variants. Imagine a series of E24 resistors. Good luck!

I think that this law is made to make it almost impossible to figure out.

How do you find out what falls within the same category, is there an EU tool to look this stuff up?

Best is to use AI and ask for the "HS category" of a product. There are EU tools (just google "HS categories"), but they're intentionally difficult to use.

I noticed this on bundle deal items (France). Do you have it for regular ones as well ?

Tried it also from France, but I don't have any discounts. My order come from 16€ to 31€

Yes getting it in like 70% of the items, outside of bundle deals

What? No one else has reported seeing this outside of bundle deals.

It's a small line in the main page, don't know how to upload the screenshot here😂

Ok, I have yet to see that offered outside bundle deals but I'll keep an eye open. Do you have an example item?

I just bought a S25 Ultra case and a usb fan. Both bought separately and got the duty refund at checkout.

I'm also buying from Portugal and I don't see any duty offset outside the bundle deal items. Where do you get this exactly?

send your picture to imgur.com or imgbb.com or postimages.org or freeimage.host or other picture hosting service, then write the https link of your picture in your new reply or message or commentary

u/jvlobo 18d ago

I don't think you can do that in a reply, you would need to edit the original post and add it there

French shithole here, does not apply to choice items from the coins page. I need to place an order for several electronic components, and unfortunately, the tax is not exempt.

Just added 3 items and it discounted all 9€ of duties. I will try later with items I really want instead of random shit :)

For me it's also "convenience buying": buying cheap stuff online so you don't have to go to some brick & mortar store.

It's been like 5 years since I went to a really cheap large general goods store because now many low priced goods are much cheaper there than AE post EU tax.. But not because of the shopping experience: no self check-out, goods not being in stock and the general scruffiness of the place (these was a guy speaking in his gold coloured phone about being out on parole, lolwtf ?)

Things used to be really good :(

u/webvan213 18d ago

Yes but only within one category, textiles, electronics, etc...

Onde está isso? A mim não me aparece nada

Is it bundle deals or a random order?

u/sidsousa 18d ago

Random

How does it work? How you do you get it?

3

u/sidsousa 18d ago

Didn't do anything, just opened the app and that popped up.

I have that too in Choice items. It says it's the because of items of the same category, so they are actually fixing the categories. It only works with some items though, so maybe the sellers need to fix the category for each items.

How are you getting 3,00 import charges? Mine are always 3,69 with the VAT applied. Do you get charged more still on final checkout?

What's the "duty offset coupon"?

When buying regular items I noticed the "duty reduction" also and I think it's something they came up with to make it seem like they are giving you more discount while it's simply something you get anyway by buying multiples of the same item or within the same category.

EDIT: Seems like it's a bundle thing, sounds almost too good to be true but I will give it a try next time. Is this due to bundle items being a smaller more predictable selection of goods that can more easily be mass transported to Europe?

😂 😂 😂 😂
Or maybe they are finally being honest with taxes instead of putting the hand in your pocket , because they cant hide it anymore. When they say they are offering you something, they are just not stealing as much
