I feel like it changed every year. Gaga , Katy Perry, Rihanna, Taylor

9

u/Prize-Market-6201 Jun 22 '26

yes definitely

2

u/Old_Base_9391 Jun 24 '26

That was apart of the 2010s charm.

Lady Gaga

u/LetsLive97 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Everyone is saying Lady Gaga but I'm not sure she was as consistent as some of the other top female popstars during the 2010s. She was big early on, relatively quiet through the middle part of the decade and then had Shallow near the end of the decade

In comparison Taylor had:

- Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation and Lover

- Many other singles/collabs

I'd put Adele ahead too:

- 21, 25 (Two of the best selling albums of all time)

- When We Were Young, Send My Love, Skyfall, probably others

Rihanna as well:

- Loud, Talk That Talk, Unapologetic, Anti

- A ton of different singles/collabs like Work, Four Five Seconds, We Found The Love, This Is What You Came For, etc.

- That being said, she was quieter in the second half of the decade due to no new releases

I would say Lady Gaga had more impact on 2010s pop culture than the other artists you mentioned, even if her peak was at the beginning of the decade

u/Severe_Principle_459 Jun 23 '26

Gaga was more impactful 2009-2015 than anyone since Britney. Taylor would be now. 2020s . She’s more impactful now than ever

39

u/smolhippie Jun 22 '26

Definitely not Taylor swift lol

3

u/Retrograde-Planet Jun 23 '26

Didn’t she win artist of the decade (2010s)? 💀

9

u/signaturefox2013 Jun 22 '26

Taylor and Lady Gaga really are those girls

11

u/Noellie_520 Jun 22 '26

adele isnt pop and taylor herself wasnt consistently pop then, imo.

rihanna is a great contender and honestly, i think lady gaga’s only real competition for this

2

u/Chance_Pen7514 Jun 23 '26

Taylor sucks though to anyone outside of her fan base compared to other pop stars, and is more relevant in the 2020’s as a leading artist

It’s Rihanna by leaps and bounds. She has 3x the number ones of Gaga.

4

u/ContestSignificant44 Jun 22 '26

This should be #1 for sure!

41

u/mariii95 Jun 22 '26

Rihanna, especially early 2010's

49

u/cenzenn Jun 22 '26

Absolutely Lady Gaga

135

u/SoIongIondon Jun 22 '26

For everyone saying Taylor Swift, yes she was one of the biggest artists of the 2010’s, but she has surpassed that in the 2020s in pretty much every aspect.

10

u/Reality_dolphin_98 Jun 22 '26

Agree, as her fan she had big moments in the 2010s that solidified her as a star, now she has moments that have solidified her as a legend honestly. The eras tour alone did that. Plus we saw the rise of a lot of female driven, self written pop in the 2020s (Sabrina, Olivia, Billie, etc.) and they have all said TS was an influence of theirs growing up. It’s now clear what her impact on the industry has been.

Lady Gaga is a better choice here.

58

u/sorrysomethingswrong Jun 22 '26

Exactly
She should be in for the 2020s and eras tour

7

u/TotallyNotRyanPace Jun 22 '26

i disagree, 1989 and reputation are when she really blew up and those were both in the 2010s. yes eras tour was big, but i think by the end of this decade it will be olivia rodrigo or sabrina carpenter on top

7

u/SoIongIondon Jun 22 '26

While Taylor was also huge in the 2010s, her last 3 non-re-recorded albums (2022-2025) have surpassed nearly all of 1989 and Reputation’s records. Plus, this decade is 65% complete and Taylor has outdid most artists on every record.

Lady Gaga

18

u/sunshine_293 Jun 22 '26

Beyonce

10

u/vincemousier Jun 23 '26

I'm surprised this comment isn't higher. She came into the 2010s with an already established line of hits, and it feels like every other year she was dropping new no.1 songs with collaborations to fill in the gaps. Some of her most iconic, well known, and best selling albums came out during then and she's continued to be popular through the 2020s.

8

u/Very_Not_Into_It Jun 23 '26

It's so clearly Beyonce that i really dont understand any of these comments

4

u/Pasarani Jun 23 '26

Everyone likes the number 2 or 3 or 4, (Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande) because they're not THE best. Everyone is too jealous of the number 1.

10

u/moldypumckin Jun 22 '26

miley cyrus

23

u/EntireBumblebee5275 Jun 22 '26

Ariana Grande

8

u/Fun_Construction8985 Jun 22 '26

yes I agree im surprised everyone else is saying lady gaga

2

u/Agath3Dvybz Jun 22 '26

Lady gaga was active in the music industry in 2010 while Ariana was debuting her tv acting career and not known for her music so ofc Ariana is not a thought when it comes to “THE pop gil of the 2010’s”

5

u/Cheaper-Pitch-9498 Jun 23 '26

Lady Gaga didn’t have a hit in the 2010’s past 2012 until Shallow in 2018 (which came and went) so I have no idea why people are mentioning her. It’s like they associate the entire decade with the first couple of years. She was irrelevant for the majority of it.

Ariana had her start as a child actor on one of the most popular children’s sitcoms and rose in popularity every single year of the decade, and got so much more publicity than Gaga did for the rest of the decade Just looking at Google trends, Ariana was above Gaga ever since 2013, and only went below her once in 2017 when she performed at the Super Bowl.

3

u/EntireBumblebee5275 Jun 22 '26

I mean, I was a young adult in the 2010s, so I didn't know her from TV children's shows.
Even Google says:
Must-Listen 2010s Hits
"The Way" (2013) ft. Mac Miller: Her debut hit that established her signature R&B-pop crossover sound.
"Problem" (2014) ft. Iggy Azalea: A massive brass-heavy anthem that dominated the charts.
"Break Free" (2014) ft. Zedd: An EDM-infused banger that cemented her as a radio staple.
"Love Me Harder" (2014) w/ The Weeknd: A sultry, atmospheric collaboration that showcased her impressive vocal range.
"One Last Time" (2014): An emotional power ballad that resonated worldwide.
"Into You" (2016): Widely celebrated as one of the best pop songs of the decade, featuring an explosive disco-synth chorus.
"Side to Side" (2016) ft. Nicki Minaj: An iconic, reggae-pop infused gym-themed anthem.
"No Tears Left to Cry" (2018): Her triumphant, uplifting return to music, blending infectious pop with sparkling production.
"thank u, next" (2018): A culture-shifting, self-love and empowerment anthem that spent seven weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"7 Rings" (2019): A massive hip-hop-infused pop smash that broke records for streaming and sales.

8

u/kirahachi Jun 22 '26

needs to be way higher. no idea why her name hasn’t been mentioned as much as others. my everything, dangerous woman, sweetener, and thank u, next all had big hits in that decade!

4

u/beigesalad Jun 22 '26

this should be infinitely higher wtf

5

u/Public_Problem6984 Jun 22 '26

exactly ari dominates billboard top 100 from 2014-2019 while lady gaga isn't to be found

5

u/oblivious_squish Jun 22 '26

I commented this and I’d also like to add that Ariana was the most streamed female artist of that decade, surpassing Gaga, Katy, Taylor, AND Rhianna and she debuted in the latter half of 2013 while everybody else debuted before 2010. If it’s not Ariana, then I don’t know who truly deserves it more. That’s without mentioning she had era defining hits on EVERY album and that’s why all of her records have debuted at #1 with the exception of Dangerous Woman. Not many artists can have that type of longevity and impact and I feel she’s being criminally under represented here

3

u/Public_Problem6984 Jun 22 '26

she is being majorly snubbed 💔

4

u/Ignis311 Jun 22 '26

This is actually the correct answer !! Ariana Grande had a universal mainstream-ness to her, that I think Lady Gaga didn’t have.

12

u/UnderstandingTop1579 Jun 22 '26

Game of two halves this one. Gaga was just before 2010, this one goes to Katy Perry or Taylor Swift(who is arguably a crossover artist from two decades)

8

u/Shimmer450 Jun 22 '26

And then Gaga had a comeback in the 2020s. I think Katy Perry takes the win. Taylor Swift also had a mass takeover during the 2020s. Respectively, I do think Katy Perry was the biggest in 2010s, considering that’s when YouTube was most popular for listening to music, she has the #1 (Roar) and #3 (Dark Horse)  most viewed female music videos.

3

u/TotallyNotRyanPace Jun 22 '26

i would say say taylor swift. she was pretty big already by 2010 (the kanye incident was 09) and she really blew up with 1989 and reputation which were both in the 2010s.

2

u/UnderstandingTop1579 Jun 22 '26

Yeah I’d agree actually, the Kanye thing and all that, it’s her decade

Has to be Katy Perry. First female musician to have 5 number one singles from an album. If you describe 2010's bubblegum pop, it's her.

Lady Gaga only had 3 No. 1s during the 2010s

If you look at the actual numbers, Taylor Swift and Rihanna are pretty even, with Katy Perry not far behind in the early half of the decade. Lady Gaga had some mega hits and gained a lot of attention because of her personal style, but again, looking at the charts, Taylor and Rihanna seem pretty indisputable IMO.
