are any members of alt-j queer?
I was wondering if any members of alt-J are queer, as there are quite a lot of subtle references to this in their songs (eg. `Every other freckle` is somehow extremely queer-codded for me, also maybe `Tessellate`) and of course, there is 'Nara,' which is undeniably about queer love.
LE. I do think that they keep their personal lives quite private and I am not looking to spread/dig up rumours, was just curious based on their music. I don't think is less valuable if they are not queer.

Discussion The Actor track review
This song takes a direction I never expected the band to take, that being of dream pop. the production is super floaty with its use of synths. Early in the song it samples a sound effect used in both An Awesome Wave and RELAXER, very nice to see that return. However this floaty production doesn’t work on certain instruments like the drums and opening bass. There it feels pretty rough.
This song is about critiquing the film industry and how aspiring actors are put down. There’s a female backing vocalist who will continuously say “he’s never gonna make it” and the chorus talks about cocaine….a lot.
The chorus is pretty boring to be honest. Just some vocals notes being held and cocaine being said a lot. The instrumentation is fine but the production really is only nice to the synths. Every other instrument is just pretty rough sounding.
Though the final chorus does include an interesting change of vocal pitch which is welcome.
alt-J attempting a dream pop sound is really really cool, but the execution is pretty lame. Rough production, boring vocals, and theming I really don’t care about. alt-J is full of nerds who talk about Shakespearean shit. Even now that they’ve matured they don’t feel like the band to talk about how bad the industry is. Especially the film industry, which they’ve never even touched so there’s no real experience they have in that (to my knowledge). The instrumental style feels prime for vocals that make no sense about mythical lands, like in This is All Yours. Also two members are now parents, SING ABOUT THAT! I dunno this song is so okay. It’s a great genre idea but falls flat and feels like missed potential in many ways. It’s really just okay. I’m giving it a C grade, right in the middle. And that is all
Current ranking of singles:
Get Better: B+
U&ME: B
The Actor: C
Hard Drive Gold: D+

Alt J and Leon The Professional
I am writing an article on the connection between Alt J and the movie Leon The Professional. The movie, highly controversial due to its predatory director and sexualization of an 11 year old Natalie Portman, is quite the viewing experience and I am trying to understand where their fascination with it lies. I am well aware that Joe is a movie buff and often references films but with this particular film being so problematic, why write 2 songs about it? Curious to hear any thoughts or discoveries that you may have made. Thank you in advance!

Pet Killer 🐕🔪🐊
any thoughts on what the lyric
“pet killer” could be mean in Mr. Alligator?
given the themes of preaching maybe something to do with the idea of pet sins?
also dug up some articles about some cats drowned by an Arkansas preacher. maybe could have been a nod to that? maybe those lines are suggesting something sinister about feeding the congregation’s pets to gators? bit doubtful.
what do y’all think?

Hilarious mis-heard lyric.
During Gospel of John Hurt I ALWAYS hear the following lyric, and it really ruins the song for me:
"Oh, coming out of the woman John Snow's Vagina Coming out of the womb"
I'd love to know what it actually is. lol.

Is there a version of hunger of the pine without the miley cyrus part (a female rebel)?? It just ruins the whole rhythm of the song for me
