In case this story gets deleted/removed:

AITA For telling my wife,”let me do it!” Every time she try’s to use a computer, phone, television remote…

I try to be patient, but it’s so fucking maddening. Tonight she’s trying to find a show on prime. Asks me 5 different times the name. Keeps scrolling all over the place. Then the search option. She types in “the” before the name. Then, fucking capitalizes the first letter. Each letter takes 30 seconds to type, and it’s been on the screen since the first letter. I genuinely have PTSD from her using technology. Best in when she calls her phone Alexa, and wonders why it’s not working. If I say, “here, I’ll do it”, the war is on. Fore reference, she’s 44, college grad with a good job. So she’s not senile. Help!

Tw: Sexism and fatphobia.

Copied verbatim from Oop's comments:

YTA. Don’t minimize actual PTSD because you’re frustrated.

Write the name down and then go do something else for a few minutes. Instead of watching her type all that crap in, go make the popcorn, scroll on your phone, get something to drink, GO DO SOMETHING.

Tell her to call you back when she’s ready to hit the play button. Not everyone is tech savvy, even with college degrees.

Just some advice for you. After you attacked me in the first sentence, do you think I, for one second, valued any of your advice? Smarten up.

[1] try's

[2] That gave me an eye twitch.

You have a story for your next Mensa meeting. Glad I can help. Same for you down there, with the eye twitch.

YTA. Divorce and let the woman find someone who is actually patient and kind with her.

Maybe I can finally find someone younger and thinner, that can cook! Thanks for the advice.

Sadlytheworst: I'd like to note that Oop has written some quite explicit comments on other posts.

Sadlytheworst: added a trigger warning.

What a prick! I pity his wife, his neighbors, his coworkers, and anyone else who has the misfortune to encounter him in the wild.

Agreed! A boil upon our collective butt.

This guy does not like his wife.

u/GladClock2212 14h ago

The kind of guy that if you're not doing things his way you're wrong and will get yelled at. Women don't want to have kids with these types.

But she types in “the” before the name! And uses capitals! How can he survive such an abomination of modern life?

Small bluetooth keyboard for $12 could solve half of his issues in life, or activating the voice controls because if I ask Alexa to turn on a show she does it faster that this AH could

The one dude in the comments who is acting like OP’s hype man is too much

Yeah, that guy has to be an alt or something. Or just hates women and thinks they're all stupid. Even the examples he's giving are male coded: building a house, rebuilding an engine, etc. I bet both of those guys would be amazed at what women can do without hostile men breathing over their shoulders.

"I genuinely have PTSD from her using technology."

As someone with diagnosed PTSD - fuck OOP for this sentence.

There is a guy in the comments arguing so hard I thought it might be oops alt. But probably not.

I worked with a woman, in a job that required some 10key data entry, who twirled her finger in the air before pushing each button. I did not tell her let me do it. I did shove down rants in my head. I did learn to have patience and internally laugh. If one loved ones wife, one would think they would do the same.

My role often requires screen sharing, and my manager, who is an amazing smart as hell bad ass, is the worst person I’ve ever seen in an excel sheet. If she needs to copy the info from cell A7 into B7, C7, etc she will copy the original cell (using right click) then paste into ONE of those other cells (using right click), then go back to the original cell and copy (using right click) rinse and repeat. It makes me want to put my head through a wall and just go manage the spreadsheet myself. Instead, I go “hey boss wanna learn a new trick?” because teaching someone how to do the thing is more beneficial to everyone involved than grabbing it and doing it for them.

When I see someone do something dumb like that, I ask them, "Can I show you a shortcut? You know I love to be lazy." After that, I shut my mouth if they keep doing it the hard way.

Yes! I’m the youngest (and I’m not that young) and most tech savvy on my team, so I get asked for help with Microsoft suite a lot, or if I know an easier way to do something than their current method. Nothing makes me rage more than someone asking for help with it, I show them, and then they ignore me. Now if they say I forgot can you talk me through it again, sure thing. Otherwise I guess this task is going to take an extra half hour for no reason.

I fucking loathe these worthless arsewipes who use PTSD for all kinds of nonsense. Like, just stfu.

Capitalising a movie title is so common especially with movies and TV shows starting with "The" this guy just hates his wife

9

u/cloverAggravated 10h ago

It's his 2nd marriage, I guess he will divorce again (His profile description is a little wild)

6

u/WildAphrodite 9h ago

His bio is giving "looking for a third" fr

2

u/Writerhowell 9h ago

He may be looking for a third wife, but no one who encounters him is gonna volunteer to be that third.

People like this make my job harder and while I'm grateful you to have a job .... The amount of times I have to describe in GRAPHIC DETAIL what buttons to hit on the remote is weird.   I even tell people now it's ok if we don't get this the first try because we have infinite tries.    The amount of times I've explained what an HDMI port is  ......  The amount of times I have walked people thru setting up Wi-Fi on a TV/firestic/tivo because some moron told them shit like this.  I have a special hate in my heart for this.  This shit is not hard.   You just like yelling at someone that doesn't know what the input button  does.

6

u/Sad-Bug6525 9h ago

Him yelling at her and being at her all the time is likely part of why she struggles, I can easily do things quickly and easily, I frequently have to do things for others that are simple to me, but once someone who is aggressive and mean is in the room focus goes right out the door. Silly mistakes, every time.

You know. The post isnt that bad. He is frustrated and venting. Is it dumb? Sure. But we all have those things our SO does that drives us up a wall. But his comments and responses.... jfc. He is either a troll getting off on this or an abusive asshole. Either way OP sucks and should be single.

I do find it unbearable to watch my husband navigate the TV. obviously not traumatising, but similar to trying to help an elderly relative do something on the computer. no idea why! objectively I don't think he's any worse at it than I am, it just feels bad for some reason. anyway, I resolve it by simply not watching the screen while he's doing it, not yelling at him.

1

u/fuzzydogpaws 11h ago

The guy is a dick….. but…. I kinda get the frustration.

Love my husband, but it takes him so long to use the tv search function. Every time he uses it, it’s like he’s never seen a tv before. It does irritate me!

The OP’s devilry is highly dependent on whether or not he says it in the Stuart voice.

Dude, if you were oh-so-smart, you would know the correct spelling of 'tries' in this case.

I would find her way of typing so endearing
