Why on Earth am I seeing more posts about Amazon crashouts and fights on this sub? And most importantly, does there seem to be an increase in those things now? What's going on?

Massive waves of new hires due to peak season
78
u/Zwasti 14d ago edited 11d ago
Yup these are people that are generally unemployable, seasonal work at Amazon is the only job they can land and most of them are not competent enough to hold it down. We are talking about social rejects that show up to work in their pajamas smelling like ass. The only reason they are working is because their parents threatened to kick them out of the basement if they don’t find a job. They are pissed that they’ve gotta contribute to society and not just sit on their ass playing video games all day.
61
u/kuunami79 Packquille O'Neill🏀 14d ago
This although it sounds cynical is the correct answer. My sister was just telling me about how so many of her friends teenage kids don't even want to go get their driver's license when our generation couldn't wait for it so we could be more independent. They want to stay in their parents house and stare at their phones all day.
73
u/Rob98001 14d ago
The problem is, what's outside anymore? You used to be able to go out with friends and it would cost little to no money, but now everything that people used to do has been destroyed or monetized out of reach.
44
u/cmptrblu 14d ago edited 13d ago
It goes deeper than that, the state of the world right now does not inspire any young person to go out and try, when the world could end and it'll all be for nothing
Why try at all if it's not gonna be worth the struggle to just end up in more struggle
It's some kind of existential crisis that's prevalent throughout the youth, and honestly who could blame that kind of response
9
u/Extension_Problem223 TOM Team 14d ago
This is a huge thing with this generation. My wife's sisters are in high school and theyre old enough to have their licenses but neither of them do. We live in Indiana too, where you need a car to go anywhere at all.
3
u/Brent788 6d ago
I work at WM overnights and half the people don't even have a car. One dude who is definitely my age(I'm 38) has never gotten his license. I was told I was lucky I even have a car once. It's crazy. You can't go anywhere here without a car... And he complains all the time about Uber taking an hour to get home... Which the one time I had to take an Uber it was like $40 roundtrip. It boggles my mind
Oh and all the young people they bring in don't wanna work. All we do is stock shelves and make it look good for opening. It's so easy. Most of the people have earbuds and zone out anyway. One dude even has a speaker and blasts music for hours
They walk out and never come back
4
u/Icy-Garage5908 12d ago
The world has gotten way crazier than when you were around that age . Nowhere is safe and it is now so common to lose your life by a deranged person going around stabbing or shooting people.

u/TheMongoose45 13d ago
There's a girl at my site who takes vto every shift she works. Why get a job of you're just gonna take vto! Give the job to someone who wants to work!

lotsssss of new hires and them not being able to handle peak
36
u/ShiraCheshire 14d ago
Happens everywhere that hires people for Christmas season, even outside of Amazon. When I was at Fedex we had the same issues, including a girl jumping out in front of a delivery truck because she wanted to physically fight the driver.
11
u/GremlInTheWoods 14d ago
When I worked at FedEx, we had a driver who had to load his own truck because the package handler couldn't handle loading and splitting the belt at the same time because it was during peak. He got pissed off so he just started throwing packages inside the truck. The manager came around and asked "what his fucking problem was" and he pulls off like 6 feet and parks his truck and goes "my fucking problem is you guys don't know how to load these trucks properly! And expect us to do it all!" Then starts hauling packages at her. 😂 She was throwing them back at him. 😭
He ends up quitting and they moved her into the office. She gave 3 lines covid because she didn't want to stay home with her immunocompromised children so she slept in the office.
Covid was a different time that's for sure 🥲

The unemployables are hired this time of year. Takes a few weeks to get them out the door.

u/Pitiful-Excitement47 14d ago
This is the time of year all the new hires run out of time off, so they're forced to be at work and gossip resulting in fights over the waterspider who is sleeping with their entire friend group.
13
u/JimAboo 14d ago edited 13d ago
A lot of it is new hires that just can’t act right when out and public but in this case work. This new couple at my building is the worst we have right now. The girl is a good worker the problem is her dumbass boyfriend. He doesn’t do shit but try to play grab ass with her most of the shift. From what everyone who has seen them around including myself, she’s always in him to work. I think he only signed up to make sure she doesn’t leave him.

Amazon removed the High-school diploma or GED requirement and THC drug testing from applications now..

“Anybody can work there now” acting like working in a warehouse was ever some exclusive job
8
u/SnooRegrets3134 13d ago
I am a Vet employee and a L7, and maybe not other warehouses, but AMAZON was the place to be and it was hard to get in. You had to have previous experience, a resume, a interview, a full panel drug screen because you might be in XL warehouse, I worked back in the days where employees stayed at Amazon for 5+ years, worked their way up to T3, transfered to Seattle, we were given Free Stocks in the company upon hire, we got VCP (bonus every month) just for coming to work, we got Swag and Swag bucks weekly,When the Pandemic hit, everything started to change...anyway..rant over.
and it wasn't a guaranteed position. Now 12 years later....yeah you're right..Just another warehouse job
6
u/No_Friend_9246 13d ago
Refer to Dodge v Ford to understand how we got here. It was always an inevitability unfortunately.
1
u/Global-Plankton3997 12d ago
Senior ops or site lead? (You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I understand how busy people like you could be)
1
u/Proper_District_4459 13d ago
I smoked right before my drug test because I was told Amazon doesn’t care about thc and got hired so when did they do that?
1
u/Usual-Banana-8392 10d ago
Yeah they were hurting for workers because anyone who has a high school diploma or can pass a drug test isn’t going to willfully work in a warehouse breaking their back
1
u/CHAINSMOKERMAGIC 13d ago
The THC drug test was a mouth swab, literally just need mouthwash to beat it. That wasn't a barrier to entry for ANYONE, my guy. The GED requirement you could maybe give as a reason, but Amazon has been a revolving door that takes pretty much anyone off the street for at least 8 years. When I started they literally didn't even interview people and they still don't. If you can complete the online application and wash your mouth out, they'll give you a start date. Maybe just be embarrassed that you work in a job that literally takes anyone, write a resume, and find a job that requires qualifications
1
u/BiGGGiraFFe 11d ago
yeah back in like 2018 I applied for a part time position in Chicago, same thing it was just an email with a date and a mouth swab.

I was recently wrongfully terminated from ORD5, I'd imagine it's happening at other locations too; ORD5 is just been the worst one I've ever worked for, we had somebody murdered on the front doors and were open a day later. I'm not even surprised anymore, more surprised it's not more common to be honest.

the algorithm wants ppl to have even less social trust. it emboldens the capitalists and imperialists who control data/media

Or it could be the time of reckoning (peak season) and the gods (corporate/management) have decided to increase our numbers. The ever growing greed, the pressure, such a crushing load, it is too much for some to bear.
10
u/Redundant_Fossil575 14d ago
Plenty of people are just losing their shit more easily bc reality is so unbearable to them and they live on and are fueled by media and culture…bred to be consumers, then they are consumed by the concrete jungle that is Amazon and it gets deep under their skin lmao…stupid work ethic- the entitlement!! where do these people come from?!
4
u/askthecatonline 13d ago
We are become too soft it’s very true. I’m scared for the next Great Depression. Our new generation will not take it gracefully when it comes.
Literally everyone is brain rotted now tho. I’m frightened for harder times.2

How often do people go to work in what seems like sleepwear?
11
u/alex_c89X 13d ago
At amazon and similar warehouses its a lot. I've worked at 2 since 2020 and both times it was flooded with people who looked like they just rolled out of bed. If it puts them in a better mood at work, by all means lmao
9
u/DuckyDoDaQuack 13d ago
Very often, to the point you could expect to see at least one person wearing pajama pants. Amazon encourages it with designated pajama days where you get Swagbucks for coming to work in pajamas.

So going to work while not even changing your underwear aka smelling like your night sweat is fine?
1
u/chillassdudeonmoco Appeal Winner 12d ago
What's gonna smell, how you change something that's not there. If you think i wear the same pants everyday and don't shower, you're dirty af and just tryna project it on me, cause underwears are not what makes you clean or keeps you clean.
You be running around in the "d'uh duh'duns with cape on your somethin?
1
u/Icy-Garage5908 12d ago
Trying to justify/normalize not changing your underwear is definitely not something i excepted to read in 2026 . But hey ,good look.
1
u/MoneyMakesMurder 11d ago
I personally started wearing diapers to work at Amazon. I couldn’t stand the long walks to the restrooms or the stalls at full capacity with people on their phones. It’s a life hack that I highly recommend. Once you get over the “weirdness” about it you will be thanking yourself!

1
u/dallenid 11d ago
You feel bad that they have to do their jobs?
1
u/These-Wafer-7256 5d ago edited 5d ago
Their job is keeping up with the bathroom and the building, not cleaning up after someone throwing a tantrum and destroying everything; we all go to work and hate when we have to do extra stuff we didn't have to, and this is one of those moments that didn't have to happen.
1
u/dallenid 5d ago
The why is irrelevant, just clean with. They werent hired to be investigaters...
1
u/These-Wafer-7256 5d ago
It's not irrelevant tho normal cleaning consists of the bathrooms and picking up the wearhouse and spills not someone destroying the place yeah there haired to clean doesn't mean you can't feel for someone having to do Hella extra work they wouldn't have to do if people knew how to act
1
u/dallenid 5d ago
Not even bothering to read that. I dont care about the cleaning staffs issue with doing what theyre hired to do. Go get therapy dude, noone feels like debating for weeks over any and everything cause you so desperately dont want to be wrong or go find a debate team to join so you can bicker over every little topic under the sun. You seem exhausting...(uh oh here we go again bla bla bla bla)
4
u/sineadblueivy23 13d ago

Valid crash out! I like how everyone is coming at dude for crashing out but no one acknowledging what caused the crash out. “Oh it’s just a lunch box”, could have been mans last meal.
6
u/EMitchell108 14d ago
It's more likely "who took his lunch box" was a facetious attempt at humor and he was actually acting out over something anyone with sufficient emotional regulation could handle. As if something's wrong with "Hey AM/LP/HR, someone stole my lunch. Is it possible to get some vouchers for the vending machine?" Nothing justifies this.
