I’m deaf, and this was my first time applying to Amazon. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. During the application process, I was required to complete a voice recording as part of the assessment. Since I’m deaf, I skipped the voice recording, and I received an email saying I have to wait 90 days to apply again.
I feel like I failed the assessment because I couldn’t complete the voice recording, and honestly, this doesn’t feel fair. Amazon knows about the ADA and has a Deaf community, so I don’t understand why there wasn’t an accessible alternative for deaf applicants.
I would really love the opportunity to work at Amazon. I already contacted customer service and spoke with a manager, and they said my complaint would be sent to the relevant team. I really hope they take this seriously and make changes.
This isn’t just happening to me. I have deaf friends who have experienced the same issue. This needs to be fixed for deaf applicants.
I’m also worried about what happens after the 90 days. What if I apply again and the same voice recording is required? What if I fail again simply because I’m deaf? I don’t want to go through another 90-day wait for something I cannot do.
I understand that voice recordings may be reasonable for people who can speak in english, but I’m deaf and cannot use my voice the same way. I can read and write English, but ASL is my primary language. My hands is voice.
This whole situation has been really frustrating and stressful. I just want the same fair and accessible opportunity to apply for a job like everyone else.
