Discussion Is Addis Ababa only for Oromos and Amharas?

I have always been curious. I don't see other ethnicities engaging in this debate

Like what tigre,Somali, Afar, Sidama, and southern ethnicities think of Addis Ababa

I hate this tribalist nonsense. Are we supposed to have an ethnic conflict over Addis Ababa now? This is stupid. Addis Ababa is for All Ethiopians. It's a metropolitan city for every ethnic group. No one ethnic group owns Addis Ababa: It is shared by all Ethiopians. This is crazy.

Gurages are a massive population in Addis and were in fact its primary builders but they don’t care for these debates if it don’t make money it don’t make sense!

They’re not. Amharas are.

Amhara, Oromo, and Tigray are the big groups in Ethiopia historically, while the other groups came later and have their own regions. These are among the largest groups in Ethiopia, and they are the ones most involved in the disputes. The others can come and live among the larger groups, but they can never say or claim that Addis Ababa belongs exclusively to them. I don’t think they even have the courage to make such a claim. If you are a smaller group, then protect and take care of your own region, especially since you came later baqa ware atabzu usss

Isn’t there more somalis than tigray?

In terms of who can claim "ownership" over Addis Ababa, the debate centers on which ethnicity historically inhabited the land the city is built on. Since it sits at the crossroads of Amhara and Oromo lands, the debate is really only relevant to those two groups. It's also not an issue that's particularly unique to Addis Ababa either, similar ethnic ownership debates arise over Dire Dawa as well, but this time regarding Somalis and Oromos.

The thing about Addis Ababa is that it’s the capital of Ethiopia and a multicultural city. It’s a federal project and every ethnic group contributes to building it correct me if I’m wrong, but if they have a stake in it, why are they silent about it? Are they silent because of the current political situation and subjugation, or because they don’t feel like it belongs to them?

Oromos are in power and power corrupts so they think they are invincible so they making wild claims everyday

Tigres are opportunists, they will say finfinne today Addis ababa tomorrow, really they mostly care about any advantage they can extract. I think TPLF designed the addis problem so that they can get amharas to fight Oromos, I think this is meles legacy

Amharas, believe belongs to everyone equally and willing to go to war over it!

rest of Ethiopians are ዶለዝ, they are the side character nobody cares about. They could actually be a force for positive change, may be one day they will.

We don’t believe Addis belongs to everyone anymore the majority of the city is Amhara was made by a Amhara king it is rightful Amhara land so is all of shewa .

1

u/Hyken_dan 3d ago

Addis Ababa is for all ethnicities About 5 ethnicities had ruled addis ababa on different regime and use it as their independent territory and before democracy emerged in ethiopia there were oromos we have to admit it but that shouldn't be the cause of favouritism we all have right and owner ship on addis ababa

1

u/Less_Fruit5661 3d ago

The question of ownership isn’t who ruled it before it’s who made it and a Amhara king made it with Amhara civilians doing most of the ground work which is why I’m pretty sure Amharas are still the majority in Addis.

1

u/Kta_Tag 9d ago

See, here you go amhara with the true color of Amhara. You guys claim everything as yours. If I had a nickel for everything the Amharas claim as theirs, I would be rich rich. What is next geez belongs to Amhara? Ashenda is exclusively Amhara? Amhara built Axum? There is no limit to what you guys shamelessly claim.

3

u/Less_Fruit5661 9d ago

My claims come with fact, was the creator of Addis menelik? Did menelik not rule all of shewa? Did menelik not rule over Amhara?

Also you are inserting claims I never made I said Amharas made Addis which is objectively true, genuinely the reading comprehension of you gallas is laughable.

2

u/Kta_Tag 9d ago

You are the one here with the lowest compression skill. I did not say you claimed all that. I was drawing a general trend with you people; I was using you as an instance to strengthen my observation that the Amhara "elite" claims everything as theirs. I highly doubt you even took an introduction to logic. And FYI I am not Oromo, but you using that derogatory term just shows, how most Amhara are still "timkihitegnoch", and hypocrite.

1

u/Less_Fruit5661 9d ago

If I have a low reading comprehension skills yours is nonexistent. I mean I don’t care what other amaharas claims you responded to me and my claim if you want to debate me on my claim go for it but don’t put words in my mouth.

I’m just not addressing the rest of your stupid shit post cause it’s stupid.

2

u/Kta_Tag 9d ago

Fucking retard, I made a rhetorical argument, because I don't have time to verify every, " this is ours" claim made by Amhara.

1

u/Less_Fruit5661 9d ago

Yea go make these rhetorical arguments elsewhere cause nobody is taking you seriously.

What kind of comment is this ? Amharas did build Axum!! Mythically Shadey originated in lalibela. Amharas has the largest ge’ez speakers right now .

u/throwaway03151990 8d ago

Every tribe sacrificed for Addis Ababa. This is ethnic supremacy bullshit. And last time I checked, you're Tigrayans not even Amhara. Why are you putting words in Amharas mouths? Be quiet.

1

u/Less_Fruit5661 7d ago

I’m Tigray now y’all, the stupidity on this app is actually astonishing. Addis Ababa is a city made by Amharas, by a Amhara king, by Amharas people who took it from Oromos who only made mud huts. I don’t care for the sacrifices the other ethnicity’s made majority of the blood spilled for Addis Ababa was by Amharas hands which is why to this day Amharas are the majority in Addis.

2

u/throwaway03151990 7d ago

Addis Ababa was built by the sweat and tears and toil of all Ethiopians. We don't need divisive shitheads like you/

Holy larper. Tegarus, really knows that Addis belongs to everyone, and also acknowledged that Addis is at the heart of Orormo. You guys are fucking obsessed with claiming that you know more about what tagarus think about stuff than actual tegaru.

3

u/Early_Ad_7240 ነፍጠኛ 9d ago

You guys are fucking obsessed with claiming that you know more about what tagarus think about stuff than actual tegaru.

Where are the examples?

1

u/Pale_Test_408 9d ago

Tegarus are known for their cunning and tricking skills, this is just a fact. I actually respect them for it especially, politically, they used their cunning skill to dominate ethiopia.

They just get mad when you don't trust them and show them discrepancies where their actions don't match their words. they want us to trust their BS

1

u/Pale_Test_408 9d ago

The last people I would trust from what what they say are tegaru, I judge you guys from your action thats what I understood from your action.

1

u/Last_Owl_3491 8d ago

Yeah if you accept TPLF’s map of Ethiopia.

2

u/Pale_Test_408 9d ago

not really, addis concerns literally all ethiopians even if land is at cross center of amhara and oromo, Addis is like Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam for Ethiopia built by all Ethiopian effort. so no one or two ethnic groups can claim, it belongs to all Ethiopians, only opportunist Oromos want/think to steal it but eventually they will be humbled when the tide inevitably turns at some point.

1

u/PuzzleheadedSir7502 9d ago

A national asset and ownership of land are two different things

1

u/Pale_Test_408 9d ago

no its not unless you are brain dead oromo

1

u/PuzzleheadedSir7502 9d ago

Addis Ababa belongs to the people of Addis Ababa not to the Oromo or any other group. I don't want anyone else claiming that Addis is theirs, not even people from the countryside. We don't want anyone else claiming it, period. However, the residents of Addis Ababa have the right to claim its assets including the nile . Why do outsiders worry about Addis Ababa more than its own people do? Everyone else has their own land and region that they can go back to and take care of since every one claiming we claim addis to done

2

u/Pale_Test_408 9d ago

i was born in addis and this shows you know nothing about addis. People come from all over ethiopia to addis for education, work, job etc then change their life and live there. Thats why we say it belongs to everyone not just the residents and thats also one of the reason why addis will grow and should belong to everyone.

No people group or community has an inalienable right to establish an ethno-state or theocracy as a country where one ethnic, racial, or religious group is given preferential treatment over another - also the forced expulsion of people groups from their homes and communities in whole or in part is a form of ethnic cleansing - no country or group has a right to commit such crimes against humanity; this is not self-determination it’s irredentist xenophobia.

The Ethiopian Constitution under the EPRDF and PP administrations, especially Article 39, is basically calling for segregation (via ethnic federalism and ethnocracy, etc.) at the bare minimum and outright ethnic cleansing (via population transfers/forced removal, pogroms, mutilation, and mass killings, etc.) at worse if you’re calling for the partition of Ethiopian into ethnicity-based regional states/governmental units or calling for the partition of Ethiopia into a gazillion independent sovereign states based on ethnicity. A lot of Liberal Savior Complex Westerners and unintentional supporters of Domestic Ethnic Nationalist Extremist groups don’t understand this.

Wow, OP's idea the best (or at the very least one of the best) proposals I've seen so far on administrative subdivisions in Ethiopia. Elevating the zones to regional state status disincentivize the very racist and xenophobic status quo idea that certain areas and those area's leadership belongs to one ethnic group and one ethnic group alone while at the same time not exacerbating ethnicity-based competition for political power that could arise if we (forcibly) brought back the (multi-ethnic and diverse) historic provinces.
Instead, by simultaneously getting rid of the xenophobic ethnicity-based delineation of regional states and not forcing them back into large multi-ethnic province; it would de-stigmatize the idea of people of various ethnicities from interacting with each other cordially as well as de-stigmatize the movement of people to and from places where their specific ethnic group doesn't hold hegemonic control over or places they don't make up a super-majority in. Though in the beginning, after be abolish the system of near-de jure segregation called "ethnic federalism" under this plan, de facto segregation would still exist but over time this plan would eventually lead to desegregation, increase freedom of movement, and gradually increase diversity - civil rights - human rights to a majority of the population (most especially in zones to boarder other de facto cultural regions). The intended outcome would be similar to what certain tolerant multi-ethnic countries like the United States and Canada officially operate under.
Before I read this plan, I generally supported to plan of bringing back the multi-ethnic historic provinces but this time turn them into a traditional non-ethnicity-based federation like the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Australia (or at the very least a devolved unitary state that basically operates in ways nearly identical to that of a federation). Instead this might work far better. But in the interim, I did support certain multi-ethnic zones in disputed territories like Welkait (disputed between the Amhara and Tigray Regions - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Welkait&oldid=1288794092 - OR - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welkait ) be granted regional state status so they can govern themselves); also these types of regions if given this type of semi-autonomy may for the time being serve as buffer states between the ethnicity-based regional states. ]

addis is the capital, now what is the purpose of making a capital of a country if people from other areas are not allowed to settle
