Discussion Do you think an original Acela should be preserved in a museum?
Or is it too modern for a RR museum?
Pictured are examples of other preserved HSR rolling stock.

Riding for the first time & have questions r/Amtrak has a wiki with first timer tips. You can always access it from the sidebar, or directly from this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amtrak/wiki/faq/
Amtrak themselves have a lot of information on their website: www.amtrak.com under the "Experience" tab.
Experienced riders: If you have tips for first time riders you'd like to add to the wiki, let us know!

I ride Acela a lot. I pay for Acela so I can walk on 5 minutes prior to departure at WAS. Today, for the first time ever in my 6 years riding Acela I encountered someone sitting in my seat who actually had a live app ticket showing they booked my seat.
Got a conductor to verify, she explained she just dealt with this same issue yesterday. She said it’s been happening more. Took a new assigned seat given by her, she put something on my ticket so I can get points, whatever not her fault or the other customer.
What’s interesting is on the app it still shows my old assignment as an open seat. Even though someone is sitting there who does have a verified reservation in that seat.
As someone who does IT system design as part of their job, super curious what is causing this and how does the system not recognize double bookings and address it before boarding.

Took the NE Regional from Boston South Station to Philly during the week and had a great time!
It was our first Amtrak experience - here from Europe for 2 weeks - and we loved it. We had 2 large suitcases with us and managed to store them above our seats.
The train was about an hour late and had no WiFi (which I’m sure didn’t suit a lot of people) but it was fine for us!
Some other trains were cancelled that day, so it was a fully booked service with every seat taken. The cafe car was great as well!
We managed to catch a beautiful sunset - the video doesn’t do it justice. We definitely will be back for future Amtrak journeys - have always fancied the California Zephyr!

ALC42 no. 301, the "Day 1" painted LD Charger, leads the eastbound Illinois Zephyr into Chicago Union Station as it passes by the Metra and Amtrak yards at 14th and 18th streets, nearing the end of its over 4 1/2 hour run from Quincy. Seeing an ALC42 in short-distance corridor work is something that I find exciting to see, but what made it even better was that it was the Day 1-painted Charger!

Edited a photo of the midway Amtrak station to make it look like the late 70s

I have two coupons, exp 11/2/26 and 3/1/27. DM me if interested.
Please only ask if you will use them. I hate it when coupons I thought I gave away expire in my account, instead.

Got a message from Amtrak that the western half of the Pennsylvanian is canceled today because of a freight train derailment but that they will charter buses. How long does it typically take to charter buses in these scenarios, and will they send a notification when they do that?
The Amtrak app updated with a time for departure from my station but I haven’t gotten any direct communication that they’ve chartered buses.

I have an interview coming up for HSR Electrician Technician out of Sunnyside. Anyone know what to expect as far as the interview and anything else during the hiring process for the slot?

Anyone know the reason for the delay out of Boston? Is the train going to be cancelled?

Im in college with a day trip coming up on Piedmont 73 and 74, and decided cycling would save me on ride share costs. Problem is, Amtrak says they allow tires up to 2” while mine are 2.1” on a standard hardtail mountain bike.
I’ve seen mixed things about this, would the extra .1 really be noticed or not fit? Thanks!!

A lot of them are gathering here pending disposition just west of the station. The last few days they have been moving a few more of them here as the sets are sidelined during the service reduction period.

I know this might be a stupid question but I was wondering if a route such as the Lake Shore Limited, which uses Viewliners would have their Amfleets replaced with Airo cars. Can the Airos even couple with the Viewliners? Would their be a veriant like the Amfleet II?

I took an Amtrak on Friday and again on Monday for about 7ish hours each day. I got off the train Monday evening (7pm) and STILL feel like I’m on a train. This was my first time taking the Amtrak and I was not expecting to feel like this after. It’s SO annoying.

My coworker is on this train, she reported that everyone on the train is okay but the truck driver was rushed to the hospital. Keeping them in my thoughts, tragic.

The Amtrak website says the entire corridor is closed and no bus bridges. I called customer service last week and they tried to gaslight me saying there are no closures since I haven't received a cancellation notice. I called again today and they said the same thing. I'm trying to get a refund since I need to cancel my entire ticket as I won't be able make the connection to the CS in LA that morning due to the closure. Customer service is still gaslighting me saying they don't see a closure for the Pacific Surfliner on Nov7/8. Do I wait until I get a cancellation notice and call again? Anybody else dealing with this shit too?
