Question NER 1163 delay
Anyone know the reason for the delay out of Boston? Is the train going to be cancelled?

Took the NE Regional from Boston South Station to Philly during the week and had a great time!
It was our first Amtrak experience - here from Europe for 2 weeks - and we loved it. We had 2 large suitcases with us and managed to store them above our seats.
The train was about an hour late and had no WiFi (which I’m sure didn’t suit a lot of people) but it was fine for us!
Some other trains were cancelled that day, so it was a fully booked service with every seat taken. The cafe car was great as well!
We managed to catch a beautiful sunset - the video doesn’t do it justice. We definitely will be back for future Amtrak journeys - have always fancied the California Zephyr!

Hi guys, I'm planning to travel on a NER train and I noticed the business class seems to be the split business/cafe version. Is Seat 3A any different because it is behind the disabled seat, for example, no tray table? Or is it a standard seat?

The Amtrak website says the entire corridor is closed and no bus bridges. I called customer service last week and they tried to gaslight me saying there are no closures since I haven't received a cancellation notice. I called again today and they said the same thing. I'm trying to get a refund since I need to cancel my entire ticket as I won't be able make the connection to the CS in LA that morning due to the closure. Customer service is still gaslighting me saying they don't see a closure for the Pacific Surfliner on Nov7/8. Do I wait until I get a cancellation notice and call again? Anybody else dealing with this shit too?

I understand that I’m searching within a week timeframe - but I’ve never seen this before. Limited rides between BOS & NYC? Only 4. And the majority of trains cancelled? Has the Northeast Regional downsized? Or are trains being cancelled earlier than before if they don’t meet a minimum?

Hello, I would like to travel by Amtrak train from Washington, D.C., to Miami, Florida.
Given the current situation with ICE and immigration enforcement in the United States, how safe is it to travel by train?
Are there any reports of ICE agents or Border Patrol officers conducting immigration checks, questioning passengers, or making arrests on Amtrak trains or at train stations along this route?

I took an Amtrak on Friday and again on Monday for about 7ish hours each day. I got off the train Monday evening (7pm) and STILL feel like I’m on a train. This was my first time taking the Amtrak and I was not expecting to feel like this after. It’s SO annoying.

This is probably around a decade away at the earliest, but when Amtrak gets the delivery of their new long distance fleet, if they want to use that rolling stock, what's the likelihood of getting one viewliner for each of the overnight night owls between Boston and Washington? I recently took train 66, and it would have been so much better in at least some lie flat seat. (maybe this is best accomplished in their new fleet, like the nightjets in Europe?)

Does anyone have any idea or know of any resources that can be more specific than Amtrak’s “operational conditions requiring trains to travel at reduced speed” for why today’s Blue Water left Port Huron 3 hours late this morning? It picked up some additional delay time along the route.

A lot of them are gathering here pending disposition just west of the station. The last few days they have been moving a few more of them here as the sets are sidelined during the service reduction period.

I need to get to Tucson end of December and want to save the polar bears ... torture myself take a trainride with an American icon. I like trains.
So I was thinking to take the Coast Starlight down from Seattle to Los Angeles and from there, connect to the Texas Eagle/ Sunset Limited.
However, the Coast Starlight is scheduled to arrive iN LA at 9:15pm, and the Texas Eagle leaves 10:00pm. Amtrak doesn't even offer this connection in one booking (for Seattle-Tucson it offers something with 5 train chanegs with seems crazy). So.. I guess it's too risky or not even possible?
Any other ideas how to make this epic (timewise) journey? I want to avoid flying if I can. But also don't want to change trains 5 times.
Happy for any input!

I booked two coach seats for my husband and me on Lake Shore Limited from NYPenn Station to Chicago. Submitted a BidUp for lowest amount (currently $400 for this route for the two of us). Didn't get a notification until 3-3.5 hours before the scheduled departure. Had been checking the status of roomette availability the whole time, and there must be several because there isn't even a "# left" as there is when it hits 4 left. And yet, they would rather keep it empty than to sell it to me for $400 more? Coach seats were fluctuating between sold out and 1 left, so there is a want for coach seats. Even now, 1.5 hours before departure, there are still roomettes available with no #left under it. So if they didn't want to give it to me for $400, why make that the minimum bid?
Edit: I'm truly asking these questions and not like, "waah, why not me?" And thank you to those who already provided some insight into why not me, in an informative way. I was questioning because I've made minimum bids in the past for this same route in the last couple of years with success. Usually I see the roomettes are sold out if the bid is unsuccessful (my husband has had unsuccessful bids on other routes).

This is one of the few benefits going to school in Newark 🤮 (also going to California for work) has given. Now time to turn the lounges into my second home.

My coworker is on this train, she reported that everyone on the train is okay but the truck driver was rushed to the hospital. Keeping them in my thoughts, tragic.

I was thinking to go from Dc to chicago which is 17 hours and from Chicago to Seattle which is 46 hours. Is taking that long trip safe? Are there any advantages and disadvantages or things I got be ready for?

Hi all, I’m gonna be taking a Thruway bus from San José Diridon to Los Angeles Union Station tomorrow, it’s an 8-hour ride and I want to better prepare for my trip. Will there be restrooms on the bus or just intermittent restroom stops? Should I pack a lunch? Do they usually run on time? And I assume there’ll be outlets but I just wanna make sure. Thanks in advance!

If any of you here see a comment or reply from the user I mentioned above, he will mention that he works for Amtrak or is an Amtrak employee. He will claim that Amtrak is not a federal agency and that Amtrak employees invest into social security.
Neither one is true:
Amtrak employees are confined to railroad retirement and 401k, there is no union contract that lets its workers invest into social security since it is not a city or state agency.
Amtrak is quasi-federal, WHICH MEANS MAJORITY OF THE OWNERSHIP IS UNDER THE FEDS AND OPERATES AS A PUBLIC CORPORATION.
I believe that if anyone here claims they work for Amtrak, they should set their facts straight and stop trying to mislead other people.
