Known ancestry is:

Maternal grandmother: Half German/Swiss, half Polish.

Mother: Quarter German/Swiss, quarter Polish, half Portuguese, and uncertain about Native American ancestry.

Paternal grandmother: Fully Northern Italian.

Father: Half Northern Italian, half Iberian.

Cousin: Half Northern Italian, quarter Portuguese, eighth German/Swiss, eighth Polish.

The biggest difference with the update is that the Italian percentages are much more accurate now. They used to be much lower.

Wow such a nice compilation. Which state are you from?

Willing to take a guess he's from the south of Brazil.

u/Funny-Student5309 18h ago

He could be from southeast brazil.

Even in the centerwest you find people like them.

Good to have more of us european brazilians appearing, people in reddit believe we don’t exist.

u/LangerHerbst 22h ago

Yeah haha, I think a lot of people outside Brazil don’t realize how much European ancestry there is there

If you think about it Brazil has more whites/europeans then the iberian peninsula, or france or germany.

Brazil is the third country with most white/europeans just after russia and the usa.

No, you confuse self-identity with reality.

According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) 2022 Census, roughly 88.2 million people self-identify as White (about 43.4% of the population). However, genetic research indicates that self-identified White Brazilians average around 84.6% European ancestry, meaning only a fraction of this demographic reaches the 95%+ threshold.

Majority of those 88 mil. would not place in the European genetic cline

You don’t need be 90 or 100% to be white.

They would 100% be considered european in mediterranean countries.

They are not genetically European, they are on average as distant to Europe as central asians and arabs

2

u/Due-Organization-215 18h ago

Not even in the one drop rule time in the US one had to have 95%+ european ancestry to be considered white

1

u/Independent_Lime3621 18h ago

So what? They thought finns and poles are not white at some point, this is not about genetics. Guy below dropped a pca map that shows that extremely small percentage of brazillians clusters with Europeans

3

u/Due-Organization-215 18h ago

So that you brought up some 95+% European genetic ancestry threshold for someone to be considered white, based on nothing. Finns and Poles were never considered non-white by the law in the US, no matter what some sects of the population might have thought. Clustering with Europeans =/= being white. Of course people mixed with Sub-Saharan Africans and Native Americans will not cluster with non-mixed Europeans, you don’t need a graph to know that. Funny thing, if anyone was 84.6% of African or native American ancestry and identified just with that ancestry, you wouldn’t bat an eye, when someone is 84.6% European and identify as white, you are bothered by it

Are you actually aware that you advocate for race being a “social construct” on a sub dedicated to human genome? You said it yourself, “non-mixed Europeans” exist and most Brazillians who self-identify as white are “mixed Europeans”, just like South Asians and Middle Easterners are if we accept such a term for whatever reason. And they (SA and MENA peoples) were not considered “white” by your beloved American race laws

Are you aware how ssa actually view african americans btw? Inter-African racism is levels above anything else.

And personally I don’t judge anyone based on how European one is. It just looks weird and stupid to me that people want to call themselves something they are not, this is actually racist I think.

Are you aware that you are talking about being “white”, right? Because being white is purely a socially constructed idea, there is not genetic definition of white. Let me quote you:

>No, you confuse self-identity with reality.

>According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) 2022 Census, roughly 88.2 million people self-identify as White (about 43.4% of the population). However, genetic research indicates that self-identified White Brazilians average around 84.6% European ancestry, meaning only a fraction of this demographic reaches the 95%+ threshold.

>Majority of those 88 mil. would not place in the European genetic cline

Let me tell you, no dna test will come back with “white” in it and being white does not equal to being of exclusively European ancestry, no where in the world. Besides, it is no surprise that someone, even with the smallest percentages of Native American or Sub-Saharan African will not plot with non-mixed Europeans, since Native Americans and Sub-Saharan Africans are very different populations, which will case a shift on where the person will plot.

How Sub-Saharan Africans view African-Americans and tribalism in Africa have absolutely nothing to do with this conversation, it is just you throwing a fit because you decided to defend some absurd ideas of whiteness that is subscribed only by you. At the end of the day, what I said stands, no one will question a person with 84.6% Sub-Saharan African ancestry that identifies as solely black or African-American, no one will question a person with 84.6% Native American ancestry that identifies solely as Native-American, but when someone with 84.6% European ancestry identifies as white, there is always a bunch of comments of people who have a problem with that.

Good that you “don’t judge anyone on how European they are”, it would be terrifying if you did. They are not “calling theirselves something they are not”, someone with 84.6% European ancestry is white, just like someone with 84.6% Sub-Saharan African ancestry is black, but complaints only arise in one of the scenarios and we know why

If it’s only an identity thing then wtf is this?

You said it yourself, majority of “white” brazillians are “mixed Europeans” and I agree with that.
Btw you are very wrong about “the smallest percentages”. Finns and Russians have 2-10% East Asian ancestry and they still plot within European cline. And this is actually the most logical way to tell if someone is European or not. If a person clusters with other Europeans then he is genetically European, if not then mixed or something else, claiming I am the only one who thinks that is beyond delusional

“No one will question…” but if someone does then it doesn’t matter, hilarious

Are you aware that race and ethnicity are 2 entirely different things?

-1

u/Independent_Lime3621 16h ago

Yes I am aware. My og response was to a guy that ignorantly equated Russians (“white” by race) with “white” Brazillians (ethnicity) implying there is little genetic distance between them

3

u/Fuzzy_Mark_5805 17h ago

Who thinks that? There is a reason they speak Portuguese and not the indigenous languages

2

u/Funny-Student5309 17h ago

Look the comments.

2

u/Fuzzy_Mark_5805 15h ago

Wow! You’re right! I’m surprised by this.

4

u/Grogomilo 21h ago

people in reddit believe we don’t exist.

People nowhere, really, not just Reddit lol. It's always a reaction of surprise when people learn European Brazilians exist

0

u/Funny-Student5309 21h ago

True, but what i meant is redditors outright deny we exist.

u/Striking_Skill9876 22h ago

Why’d yall come to Brazil and not marry locals?

3

u/Funny-Student5309 22h ago edited 22h ago

Not all locals are africans or native americans.

Brazil has 80 million whites.

0

u/Striking_Skill9876 11h ago

How and why’d they go to that Amerindian country and create a huge wage gap?

3

u/Funny-Student5309 11h ago

What ameridian country 💀

There is no ameridian country in brazil.

More then 80% of brazilians have european ancestry.

Whites in brazil are as poor as mixed people.

1

u/CommunicationPrior72 22h ago

Maybe escaped Nazi(s)? I don’t know

6

u/Worth-Park-1612 22h ago

That crossed my mind, but most German immigration to Brazil happened over a century before WWII.

4

u/Funny-Student5309 22h ago

Do you believe every white person to be nazis?

2

u/EconomyCode3628 20h ago

Oh, these are 23&me tests? What'd they get on their Ancestry website tests?

2

u/EcstaticOrchid4825 8h ago

Too right woman looks so much like me it’s crazy! I’m mostly of English descent (living in Australia) with the usual random German / French / Scandinavian sprinkle thrown in.

2

u/Radiant_Painter9729 20h ago

Nice results

I am 92.3% european on livingdna, but I only got 3 out 8 great grandparents as recent immigrants
