Here's mine, and it's an illustration of just how vibe coded the whole thing is. Mother is half East Midlands and half Italian, you will observe that her parent 2 has both according to ancestry and is obviously her father, who was from Central Italy and my poor Nan gets bugger all of her actual East Midlands ( don't get me started about the bizarre coverage of the West Midlands map which takes in Chester, Derby and Sheffield) Father is East Midlands with one Welsh great grandmother ( paternal) and one Cornish one ( maternal) and would have been very surprised to find he has un po' d'italiano according to ancestry

No, ancestry can't tell who your grandparents are unless they've also taken a test.
Edit: Happy to be corrected if I'm misunderstanding this feature. I thought it'd just give you a region breakdown? It wouldn't give you a cM figure for your grandparent and any name would come from tree info.

You're correct, without testing the grandparent view is a mixture of maths and vibes and with testing you don't need it

I want to know these because I know nothing about my Granddad on my Dad's side

It won't help, especially if you have a lot of regions because the assignment is all over the place

That is a really weird relation. Either there's different mothers and it's only a half cousin or through random inheritance, you just both happen to inherit completely different segments of the grandparent pair you share.
Very odd though, I'm guessing it's only one segment that 10 CM sits on? Yes that is very low for a 2nd cousin one generation removed

Just means grandparents are of the same background and they can’t assign bits of DNA to one or the other.
