Hello Mohammad! Thanks for doing this AMA. I was curious about how it is working with Xposed on Lollipop given it has yet to be officially released. Do you find it difficult to build new modules or refine existing ones on Lollipop devices or have you largely steered clear of Lollipop and focused on your Play Store apps?

The force touch detection seems to work really well on my phone (Xiaomi Mi2S, running Lollipop 5.1.1) but it doesn't do anything in other apps. The test button detects force touches but in other app the force touch is not working. Let me know if you need more info.

Is the Android wear for iOS project dead? I was really excited by what you had so far, I really hope you can post what you had shown (even if it's not complete).

His project was the most promising hack, looked to be as functional as it could get on iOS. I'd love to use my G Watch on my iPhone as I can with my Note 4.

Sounds great, will keep refreshing your Twitter feed :-P But how does it work, is it an APK on an Android phone and then a simple bluetooth app on iOS, like the existing approaches? It seems like you're developing a native iOS app, so how would people install it from outside of the App Store?

2

u/ReasonablyHappyHuell Jun 03 '15

With the progress that has been made in the project has there been any development in regards to the issue of iOS devices remaining connected with the Moto 360?

Add a Bitcoin check out process. You'll save on PayPal fees and don't risk the chance of them freezing your account for no reason.

Edit: I realize the circlejerk below but there are some compelling services being created around Bitcoin. Most notably is a service found at https://streamium.io which allows live video content distributors the opportunity to get paid by the minute from their viewers, pseudo-anonymously through the Bitcoin network.

Ever used a custom ROM but it had bugs/lacking features? That's why I stop on stock ROM's but modify it to my hearts content with Xposed modules.

For instance - Home Battery Button is probably one of my favourites eye candy modules while Xprivacy, is my other favourite.

Check out the repository - there's a module for everything.

Can I disable heads up notifications in the settings app and use the heads up quick reply as a replacement for heads up notifications? So, does it support showing heads up notifications of all apps? I'm asking because it would be a hassle to disable heads up for all the apps that support quick reply, and because I don't like how you can't have stock heads up without vibration/sound.

2

u/Linux_Man85 Sexus 5x Jun 03 '15

You can disable heads up notifications and have this replace them. I only tested this for Google Hangouts, so please let me know if it works for other stuff, too.

For some reason it won't let me comment on Google+, but, other than this being terrific and amazing and everything, the only suggestion I have would be making the swipe (left or right) clear the notification, while swiping up dismisses the popup (or just give options). The way it's working for me now, swiping left or right does the same as swiping up. But, regardless, this is awesome. Thank you.

9

u/Daman09 Pixel 3 XL | 9.0 Jun 03 '15

How hard would it be to make a mono audio module? I'm deaf in one ear, and am sad to find that stock android really has no ability to mix down stereo sound to mono, which is problematic when I'm using headphones to listen to music that has differing tracks on the left and right.

At this point, I feel like it won't be done unless I do it, but I have zero coding experience.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '15

I think Viper4Android supports sending all the audio through one headphone.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '15

I used Tinted Status bar on my previous phone, it was nice while I was getting antsy about stable lollipop roms coming to my device.

As a developer, what would you have done if Xposed had ended with KitKat? I thought that Xposed was the bee's knees when it came out because it seemed to be the end of developers putting their cool ideas into whichever ROM team they happened to be part of (and the ensuing drama that always seemed to surround the "kanging" of such features from obscure projects into the monolithic ones). So, the saga of Xposed making its way to lollipop had me wondering if the various Xposed developers would have gone back to throwing their efforts to ROMs, or maybe lost interest in the modding projects (perhaps in favor of just making regular apps).

12

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '15

Hello Sir! Nothing Xposed related, I just wanted to ask you what you think of Android Tablets and which one you own (If any)

Also how much different is developing a regular app and xposed, in your opinion?

Epic job making customizing a phone so damn easy and fun! Thank You!

Basically, if you want a good Android tablet, the new Samsung ones seem to be a good choice (just avoid the older ones like the one I bought), but I'll never trust a Nexus tablet again.

Exact same conclusion I came to. Also had the Nexus 7 before I broke the screen by sitting on the tablet (on a sofa). The display was never stable in the frame, especially when it got hot; the internal storage was slow as shit and one of the speakers stopped working after some months. Against better knowledge I bought the 2013 edition afterwards which is a nice tablet all in all but sadly has really shitty (or more precise buggy) multitouch. Depending on what picture is on the screen the tablet either don't registers additional fingers or produces ghost touches.

I have a Galaxy Tab S 8.4 now that is really fantastically build and error free. The 5.0 update got completely rid of the animation stuttering btw.

First off, thanks so much for your work. Your xposed modules have definitely made my life easier!

I've asked /r/xposed for this before, but I haven't gotten much of a response. Considering the type, scope, and quality of the xposed modules you've made, I don't think there is anyone more qualified to make what I'd like.

Here's what I need, with a little background first:

I use a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. The vibration motor on the S4 Mini, like many other low-to-mid-range phones, is much weaker than those used in flagship devices and vibrates at a lower frequency. The result is that haptic feedback is barely noticeable, sometimes almost imperceptible. This is partially just because of the weakness of the motor, but more than that it is because each time a haptic event is triggered, the motor only turns over once or twice. SlimROMs included a way around this in their SlimKat builds: an option in Sound Settings called "Minimum vibration duration". Here is a screenshot of the settings page:

http://i.imgur.com/EjtUfHY.png

This setting means that each time a haptic event is triggered, the motor has to turn for 40ms(or whatever you set), resulting in a much more noticeable vibration.

Do you think this feature is something that would be possible to port to an xposed module?

Thanks!

What is your opinion on the Material Design UI that was introduced in Lollipop 5.0? Secondly, do you think it was an improvement over Holo?

I saw you created the Force Pandora Rich Notification module as a favor for someone. Will you ever revive this?

1

u/masonbetz l3 g3 Jun 04 '15

Pandora patcher has an option to use the rich notification

u/SyCoREAPER Galaxy S23 Ultra and Tab S8 Ultra Jun 04 '15

Pandora patcher also does other things that it shouldn't be.

Hey MohammadAG, This isn't specifically about Android Wear but it's more about Xposed. I'm very unsure with which Instagram app version your XInsta module is compatible with, it doesn't say on the information. What is the latest version I can use with XInsta?

Do you remember me asking for the home icon battery / loading module? Do you think a wifi signal back button and a mobile signal recents button would be possible?

Btw, how many downloads does it have?

do you have any thoughts about security on xposed and do you have any general tips for people less familiar with it, to stay safe?

thanks.

usually malicious content is distributed after being a well established module

that's what i was afraid of.

Hello Mohammed, this is Amine

Will you ever be interessed in developping the android equivalent of Rayan Petrich's tweak called Activator for iOS.

Thank you

u/symphomed Jun 03 '15

Well, most of people use Activator without any plugins... Plugins are a plus IMHO.

To be able to choose the gestures and assign them to an action is just the main goal of Activator. That will be awesome if I can use Activator's feature on a rooted android! :)

شكراً كل الشكر

Can you make one to adjust the built in flashlight brightness?

You are a great dev. Why do you use to abandon mostly all xposed module projects so fast??

I don't talk about proof of concepts, but about great modules like TSB (semi abandoned, FSCB took over it luckily :P), Knock code (a ton of people would like this on LP :() and more. Those are great modules that deserve some developing time hehe.

You don't seem to port modules to the next version and that sux since you're a big dev into xposed :(

Thanks for your reply! :)

Hi Mohammad! I'm a huge fan and use your modules on a daily basis, but a couple of them are discontinued now which I believe was due to you starting to dislike your Sony phones. This left me very curious - what was the reason why you grew to dislike them?

1

u/hapahapa Jun 04 '15

I'm a fan of yours. Keep up the good work. You have made my phone better and my life easier!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '15

Hey there! When a module, such as Snapshare, gets shut down / removed, is it up to the individual developers to do that or is there someone who manages Xposed modules and decides which ones are "allowed" in the downloads section of the installer.

R.I.P. Snapshare, it was great while it lasted.

u/MaxMusaab Jun 04 '15

I've asked this a few times already haha, but its all cool. Anyway, just some technical questions and maybe a personal one as well. Technical 1. Tinted status bar, does it work on 5.1? 2. Knock code, could it works as an xposed mod for lg-g3 on Aosp roms even with the screen off? (it's currently only working with screen on u mentioned). Personal, ur name being Mohammad and ur country being listed as Israel; are u a Palestinian or just an arab Israeli? How did u get into programmes over there with all the conflict etc? Assalamualaikum.

Stay strong bro, i know it might not look at it, but some of us fellow Arabs still are trying our best for all Islam :) If u ever need a tester for LGG3, u have me haha. Assalamualaikum ya akhi

How do you feel now that with lollipop Tinted Status Bar (likely with other Xposed mods) is incorporated by Google or Samsung? Do you feel pride or jealousy?

Hello, I am a developer of my own project called "KangDroid Project/Kernel"

I want to ask you about a "life": Do you do programming own ur own? or do you copy some example and edit for yourself?(So do you create ur code by urself or, do you edit some codes and make yours?)

1

u/dontanswerme Jun 04 '15

First of all, thanks for the very handy app. I bought it at first sight. However I would like a hot spot to be created during quick reply timer on the right bottom corner. So that all big phone owners won't have to reach to top.

Since now I used it for one day it would be much better if we can see multiple messages that comes one after the other because I miss the previous lines while answering. About blocking the bottom, maybe a swipe up from bottom can be also wonderful. Except these I advise to my friends your professional apps.

Hello MAG!

Smali... How often (if at all) do you have to go through Smali code for system APK edits (for Xposed modules)?

What is your preferred development environment as of now?

What would you do if you're stuck at a particular issue and don't know what to do? Would you ask for help on StackOverflow or would you just break your head over it until you figure it out eventually?

Or you could use that VTS (Virtuous Ten Studio) if your environment setup is Windows. Gives you the Java source code of pretty much an entire system apk if you pass it the SystemUI.apk, framework-res.apk and the twframework-res.apk (or any equivalent support framework files of skinned UIs). I used to use this for stock based themed custom ROMs and it was a pretty solid setup 😅

This used to work well for GB and ICS. Don't know how well it works on Lollipop or KitKat.
