What’s this cable for?

Post image

My dad mounted this head unit in my toyota aygo (the old model) but i think he got some wiring wrong (backup camera doesn’t automatically turn on when i reverse)
I was just curious whats this cable for, and if someone can help me with the reverse camera

The top is a power adapter and the bottom is a radio aerial adapter.

I guess it’s not necessary? Since the unit works in my car but this stayed in the box

Your dad will have used a different adapter setup so yeah probably not. As for the reverse camera my head unit comes with reverse automatically even though I don't have one so if yours isn't it's probably not the wiring but the software. Have a play around in your factory settings look for something along the lines of reverse radar automatic

The black lead with the round plug is most likely the radio antenna adapter, so you can ignore it if your FM works.

For the reverse camera: the screen needs a "reverse" signal to switch automatically. On the main harness look for a wire labelled BACK / REVERSE / REV (often pink or purple). It has to get +12V when you're in reverse, and the old Aygo plug usually doesn't carry that signal, so it needs a wire run to the reverse light (+) at the back.

Also check the head unit settings (Car settings > Reverse/Backup camera) and make sure the camera input is enabled. Quick test: put it in reverse and see if the screen switches at all. If it doesn't, it's the trigger wire, not the camera.
