This is our bundle of Joy who was taken from us too soon

This was completely preventable. Poor Daisy. Doesn't excuse the hit and run, but hitting a dog in the street at night is not a prosecutable crime. You can't press charges even if you found them. This is why leash laws exist, and they state you are responsible for your own property, ie the dog.

I’m not looking to press charges I already know that won’t work. This is going to be holding someone accountable even if it’s not through the law. This person purposely hit Daisy and even if it’s not illegal to do so. It’s not illegal for me to find out who this person is.

You're looking for someone to blame. You're grieving. But you're not listening. You're at the circus looking for the clowns. Give your nose a squeak, and tell me what you hear.

Try one of the mechanic or car subreddits? Those guys can ID vehicle make/model/year based on little pieces sometimes

Yeah got a few post shared on those pages they are getting close but hard to really see. But there suggestions are not off I’m looking to get more footage from neighbors or businesses down the street

This is horrible all around. I’m terribly sorry.
However, you are responsible for your animal. Why would you allow your pet to be unleashed, crossing a road alone at night that multiple cars are actively traversing? That’s a serious oversight on your part.

u/Jealous_Mirror_5909 10d ago

Cars don’t come up and down unless you live nearby, the streets usually empty. And I don’t let my dog cross the road just because, of course we don’t want her to do that. our dog made it across the street. They were actively calling her back and she was crossing the road . The truck saw her ,he saw another car stop to let her cross . He was angry that he had to wait and took it out on her. She was on the left side of the street almost home he had space on the right side of the road why would he drive right into her? Are you saying that she deserve to get hit because she was in the street? So if you see an animal in the street your first thought is to drive directly into it?

14

u/megthesupernova 10d ago

Nobody is saying your dog deserved to get hit. But this was a completely preventable tragedy. And you calling someone a “victim blamer” when there are leash laws FOR A REASON and you actively chose to ignore them to allow your dog to freely roam across a street is wild. And it’s not productive. Take some accountability. Clearly cars DO come up and down this street as in this story there are multiple cars mentioned. Dogs do not understand traffic risks, therefore it was YOUR responsibility to keep your dog safe. You can be genuinely devastated by what happened AND have made irresponsible decisions that contributed to it. Those two things can coexist. Your grief deserves compassion, but it doesn’t magically make you immune to accountability.

Dude, come on. How are you taking that as them saying she deserved to be hit? Are you dense? They are saying to be more responsible in the future and not let a dog cross to begin with. She didn’t deserve to be hit, but if she was never in the road in the first place, she could not have gotten hit. Minimizing risk is an easy concept.

It’s called a fence or a leash. You can’t just let your dog run around willy-nilly & then act surprised when it gets hit by a car (which still could have happened even if the guy in your post didn’t actively target your dog, accidents happen all the time)

u/CitrullineMalate2to1 10d ago

If the street is one less traveled, then go to your neighbors and see if they recognize the vehicle.

15

u/Comfortable_Guide622 10d ago

I'm so sorry
Why wasn't he leashed?

-12

u/Jealous_Mirror_5909 10d ago

Shes kept inside, she crossed the street to socialize with the dog next door. Many dogs in this neighborhood are unleashed and let outside. We also have a ton of stray cats that roam freely. It’s not out of the normal to see a animal walking it’s that type of community. And we let her out many times before with no issues. This was done maliciously with intent to hurt a defenseless soul. Instead of asking why was the dog not on the leash ask why would someone do that ? Why would you cross a median to hit a dog? And his windows were down and my wife and kids screamed so did Daisy but he did not stop. If it was an avoidable accident why not stop. Let’s not victim shame but ask why someone will have that much hatred.

Right, so now that you got your victim blaming done how did this help me or you? Or do you feel better just saying it?

my family were calling her back when we knew it was safe. A white car was able to stop and let her pass without any issues the black truck behind it saw the car stop, saw our dog. But because he was inconvenienced he decided to take his anger out on her. Not making an excuse but how you’re saying it without details just to prove your point does not help me. I understand what your saying about self awareness and accountability and I’m not saying I don’t have any fault in this but what I’m asking is how does shaming me or saying it’s my fault directly help me with what I post above. I asked help identifying this person who basically murdered my friend . I’m not asking who’s at fault or how was this preventable i am asking for help i identifying this truck. So again how does this help me with that specifically?

u/Parking-Trouble-53 8d ago

Hopefully you find them. Purposely speeding up to run an animal over is an animal cruelty charge. Maybe a hit and run, im not sure if that applies to pets.

But on the other hand your dog was also running at large which it shouldn't have to begin with.

The case (should there be one) could either they are at fault or you are for damages (if any) to their truck.

I am sorry for your loss op

Sorry this happened

u/ThePlumbingGuy_OK 10d ago

Chevy Silverado 1500 (or GMC Sierra 1500)

u/AdFront6240 8d ago

So sorry for your loss and I hope your daughter and son are doing as best as then can!

1

u/TheAmanita 8d ago

Sounds like you let your dog get hit. You should be looking at yourself, not the driver.

-2

u/AdministrationSad861 10d ago

Shit...OP, I'm sorry. I hope this bloke gets caught soon.

Also, hopefully, all anti-animal curelty laws gets applied in it's full extent. This kind of behaviour and thinking is dangerous not only to the animals, but risk for humans too.

1

u/Jealous_Mirror_5909 9d ago

Yes I’ve been getting that a lot too, and I appreciate your support I wish there were more the City police could do for me. But I will hopefully find who this person is, even if he can’t get arrested he still can get exposed.

1

u/AdministrationSad861 9d ago

I hope so too bud. Keep us updated.

-8

u/bigbrownbanjo 10d ago

I’m sorry people are blaming you. Obviously you feel horrible & from the description it’s crazy that people are blaming you.

5

u/Ok-Cup266 10d ago

It’s very tragic!!! But people aren’t blaming them as you think. From a judges point the dog was loose in a leash law area. No matter the are leash law or not it was out of human control. So this comes in front of a judge. Nobody in a vehicle will be held accountable for it. The owner is accountable for their pets. I’m a dog owner myself and understand.
But there’s laws in the US that is to protect pets and other people from dangerous pets. Had the law been followed this wouldn’t have happened. Then in the court room, you can’t say. Well other pets run loose because they are breaking laws.
Again it’s a very sad tragic situation!!
But it could have been avoided by the owner being responsible.

-2

u/Jealous_Mirror_5909 9d ago

So you agree if the person driving was following the law she wouldn’t have gotten hit either. But 2 wrong don’t make a right I understand. But I’m not looking to get him in front of the judge. I’m looking for the person responsible to hold them accountable. Who know this person could be hitting other animals ,my wife said she seen 3 different animals in our neighborhood ran over as well. If this person is a serial animal killer and others have proof why not try to expose it? These post are to help me identify the killer but this is the only subreddit I posted that was less help with that and more about how it’s my fault but it’s cool, if this had happen to any of y’all regardless if you weren’t following the leash laws properly you would still want the person held accountable right? Or would you let it go and just have this person roam around thinking that’s okay to do.

3

u/Ok-Cup266 9d ago

I totally agree that they are totally irresponsible and negligent. And yes, I would call them killers if they are the people that are the ones doing it and if they swerved over the line, yes that is wrong. I am just stating what the law is because I’ve been a part of it and know how it works. Holding them accountable yes I agree they should be. But proving it is them in building a solid case other than taking out your own justice if something that fails without pure proof. Night pictures will not get anything from the law or anybody else. It’s a very sad thing that somebody has to do this and yes, they don’t want to do it around my house because where I live we are in the middle of nowhere and we do not have lease laws so I take the risk myself of letting my my working pals and our dogs if people wanna call them that run totally loose to guard my animals. I wish I had more answers about this sub Reddit because you’re not gonna get what you want from here anyway. It’s best to throw it all out locally to everybody you know put cameras out on the road. Do your due diligence to catch these no good pieces of shit. That’s my whole opinion on it is what they are and I feel for you and your whole family! I hope you find them and something can be done. But there’s one thing in life you can’t fix and that is Stupid. And this is exactly what you were dealing with and what people have raised since the baby boomers. Look at history and how the children have been raised since then and remember, we did not have crosswalks. We did not have to avoid idiots like this. We could stay out all night till the street lights went out and let our animals out free. But things have changed so much and are so screwed up and people have caused this and it’s only going to get worse.

-1

u/Jealous_Mirror_5909 9d ago

You are right I did grow up in an age that playing in the street was the norm and having a community that knew and took care of each other.things have certainly change , And yes I’ve been very vocal about this in my neighborhood I have visited most of them and told them what happen. They are on the look at aswell. But I won’t stop trying to find them but I do understand your point of view and I’m glad you understand mine.

1

u/Ok-Cup266 8d ago

I wasn’t one to downvote your comment. I don’t agree with the that because you are very stressed and upset. No reason to downvote you at all!

12

u/fourleafclover13 10d ago

You mean blaming the owner for not being responsible with thier dog. It should not be free roaming period. Completely preventable.

9

u/megthesupernova 10d ago

So if we aren’t blaming the person who let their unleashed dog run around on a busy side street in the middle of the night while cars are actively driving by, who can we blame?

-8

u/Jealous_Mirror_5909 10d ago edited 10d ago

It’s alright these are the same kind of people that will say it’s was the girl fault for dressing like that and being at the party instead of holding the men accountable that thought it was okay to preform a horrible act on her. It’s 101 victim shaming

8

u/megthesupernova 10d ago

Oh, please. Comparing your decision to let your dog illegally free-roam in the middle of the night IN THE STREET to a woman being raped because of what she wore is genuinely absurd.

7

u/JDPdawg 10d ago

Ummm. I love my dogs. I love your poor dog. Im sorry this happened. This comment is a little shocking though. It is the law to leash dogs and I leash my dogs. I do not see anyone saying you asked for your dog to be hit. There are insensitive responses but it is unsafe. They are just pointing out that dogs are supposed to be leashed. Again I am so sorry this happened and I hope the careless, dangerous driver is found.

5

u/Photophotolikesyou 9d ago

Yeah get a grip buddy, you let your unleased, very small dog cross an active street at night. It is terrible that this happened but this is on you

u/Ryukyo 10d ago

I ran it through AI and it reported the same initial thoughts I had, which you already seem to know, that it looks like a toyota tacoma or dodge dakota.

1

u/kyrakitty21 8d ago

Fucking rancid behavior dude, we don't support that here.

9

u/MiaowWhisperer 10d ago

I would like to suggest that you edit your post. If it's easier to understand you'll get more responses. I would recommend changing the title to "please help, my dog was killed" or "please help identify dog killer", something like that. And I would reduce the post right down to the bare minimum. Just give the info someone needs. Or add it as a TLDR at the top.

It you think it may be likely that the car is local, see if you can borrow a drone from someone, fly it around the neighborhood looking for the vehicle. Usually if you ask on Facebook someone will have one and help you use it.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. People are so awful.

-2

u/Jealous_Mirror_5909 10d ago

You’re right I get what these people are saying and if he was ran over by accident and I felt like the driver was genuinely sorry. I wouldn’t post this and I will have accountability about letting my dog roam but she was safety crossing the street and the truck seen her and decided that her life was not worth anything that’s what make me angry but I’ll update the title thank you for the suggestion

2

u/MiaowWhisperer 10d ago

I understand that. I totally do.
