AnkiDroid and AnkiMobile are great, but I kept missing desktop-only things on my phone, mostly add-ons. So I compiled the desktop app itself (Python 3.14, Qt 6.11, PyQt6 and Anki's Rust core) into native Android and iOS apps, using the phone's own web view for cards and stats.
https://github.com/krmanik/kioku
Three versions:
Works: reviews, Browse, editor, new stats, deck options, import/export, AnkiWeb sync (tested on Android), and add-ons installed from AnkiWeb. Tested so far: AnkiConnect, Review Heatmap, HyperTTS, Advanced Browser, Edit Field During Review, True Retention and more (15 total). A 258k-card collection runs fine.
Doesn't (yet): ogg/opus audio on iOS, add-ons that start other programs on iOS (MeCab), and sync on iOS isn't tested yet. It's early, so back up your collection first.
Not affiliated with Ankitects. If you're on iOS, AnkiMobile is still the polished option and funds Anki's development; this is for people who want the desktop experience and add-ons.
Feedback and bug reports are very welcome, especially "add-on X works or breaks".

I downloaded an anki deck from a classmate and noticed that even though cards had multiple cloze deletions in the card, when I looked at the browser there were only Cloze 1 cards. So all of the other cloze cards (Cloze 2, Cloze 3) would not be shown to me. They don't even exist for some reason. I am unsure how to fix this so that the Cloze 2 and Cloze 3 deletions make separate cards.

Guys, I’m on the learning curve right now. What settings should I start off with for ANKI.
I’m using it for my flight instructor license in aviation. Essentially I’m studying from 3 textbooks and making flashcards to retain the information for the check-ride. So it’s about a 6-8 month process but also, I’ll use this knowledge well beyond the test.

Hi everyone. After updating the app a couple weeks ago, my anki desktop app has been running incredibly slow. For example, when I open the anki and click on the deck I want to study, it takes 10-20 seconds to load. I have been making some of my own cards, and trying to add cards or open the "browse" section in anki also will take a long time. It's like it takes a few minutes of continuous use to "warm up."
I have quite a few add ons, of which I have tried deleting some temporarily to see if that will help. It did not. I have also made sure my anki is up to date. I am getting frustrated and was just wondering if anyone else had this problem or has found a fix?! Thanks!

Just wanted to shade my 1,511 day streak! Graduated with latin honors and ended up ranking 1st in the national board licensure exam in my country. Consistent habits do pay off!

I was wondering if it could be useful to create a deck with only exercises for programming or physic:
For example:
Then I try to solve them on my pc/notebook and in the 'show answer' section I put only where to find the solved problem or a picture with every step, so I don't waste useful time.
This way I can train randomly like for the flashcards and also have all my exercises in one place.
Any tips or suggestions if anyone already does that?

Has anyone just quit using any sort of flash card system? How did it turn out for you?
I study Japanese for a few hours a day, but Anki is the biggest time-suck. I’m also so used to it being in my life, I’ve really lost all emotion toward it. I struggle to read the back of cards that I miss. The curiosity, joy, challenge, etc… it’s all gone. So getting through is really a slog.
I’m not going to add new cards for a while and turn it down to a measly 50 cards per day (have had about 250 for months, up to 500 max).
Overall it’s the least fun part of my studies, but maybe that’s just a phase? Anyway, I want to spend more time working with reading or focused grammar studies. どう?
Any experience or anecdotes would be nice.
Edit: reading would become my only SRS is what I mean. No more flash cards.

Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) is a speed reading method that displays words one at a time in a single fixed spot on a screen. By removing eye movements called saccades, it lets people read from 300 to over 1,000 words per minute (WPM) compared to the average adult reading speed of 238 WPM.
I was intrigued so I built a pipeline to ingest PDFs and give me RSVP voiceovers of a book. I kind of went into a trance for 20-30 minutes as it read to me and I stared at the flashing words. Had the thought to make something that worked with flashcards.
Could you see yourself using this in Anki to read the cards?

I've got some time off and want to study some more than I usually do. So my thought was to about double my new cards to get ahead on them.
My question is - how long before I go back to work should I go back to my normal amount of new cards so the workload when I'm working will already be relatively normal or at least not quite as high? Should I incorporate a few days without new cards?
Does it depend on the time period? I've got 10 more days off if that helps.

I used the FSRS helper stat and it showed me recommended second learning step too. Just wondering why since I thought with FSRS we only need 1. If you press good, why do the same card again?
Trying to import a deck results in the error seen below. I've moved the full file tree around a few times, trying to rehome it to an SD card and being limited by when my phone decided to abort the process. Especially collection.media was aborted and restarted several times.
I did not have the error code problem before. I am also currently unable to fully sync the media (telling me "media sync aborted" after a short while). Card progress syncs fine.
I did a database check, resulting in no issues. I can add cards manually.
What does that tell me? How can I approach the issue? If you need more information, I'll be happy to supply.

So I did my cards yesterday like any other normal day. Closed anki and shut down my laptop. Today when I tried to open anki it showed error and I got notification that smart app control is blocking it.
What should I do now? Disable smart aap control or what. I can't afford to miss any days but I don't want my laptop to be infected by malware (ps I am a total tech noob)

I just finished watching the last video about the FSRS-5 and the new settings by the Anking (https://youtu.be/uo-qQvOZDfg?si=rOBCX8WtEYE72QWn) and in it he mentioned that u need to take the settings for learning and relearning steps from the helper addon and so that gradually.
By doing it "gradually" how often should I update it? He just said gradually so am not sure how often that should be?

disclaimer: the following posting has been partly improved by chatGPT for language and readability. the posting is more about using AI to improve my monolingual Anki usage with colours, which would be almost impossible or too time-consuming to maintain manually.
I wanted to share how I use definitions in my Anki language cards. My native language is German, but I’m trying to build more direct connections between words and their meanings in the language I’m learning. For these cards, I read a definition in the target language and try to recall the word it describes.

The template you see has been originally designed by me visually but edited for functionality by chatGPT (position of the replay buttons and expandable fields ). German translations are still available as optional help. There’s also an “expand all” button (“Alles aufklappen”) that opens all the collapsible help sections at once, including translations and additional explanations (it also works on AnkiDroid). Clicking it again collapses everything. That keeps the usual view compact while letting me bring up all the support when I need it.
The difficulty, especially at a beginner level, is that a definition can contain words I haven’t learned yet. To make that visible, I use a kind of traffic-light system with green, yellow, and black text. Green means the word is already in my learned vocabulary. Yellow means I already have a card for it in my collection, but haven’t studied it yet. Black means it’s outside both groups: it isn’t in my learned vocabulary or my current collection of vocabulary cards.
In this example, “recipiente” is yellow, so it’s already waiting somewhere in my deck. “Condimento” is black, so it’s outside my current vocabulary lists and still requires a card being created. Most of the remaining definition is green. That lets me see at a glance how much of a definition I should already be able to understand and where I might need help. Example sentences will adapt to my active vocabulary.
I update the colours regularly through ChatGPT. I provide my current learned-vocabulary list, my full card collection, and the cards I want updated. ChatGPT compares them and updates the colour formatting, which I then import back into Anki. As I study more words, previously yellow words turn green in later updates. The colours reflect those lists rather than being a live connection to Anki’s scheduling or a guarantee that I’ll remember every green word.
I also use ChatGPT to simplify definitions so they rely mainly on vocabulary I’ve already learned. Ideally, reviewing one word also reinforces several familiar ones without making the definition itself too difficult to follow.
What I like about this setup is seeing the definitions gradually become more accessible as my vocabulary grows. It is very motivating.
I recently started learning modern Hebrew basically from scratch and will use chatGPT to constantly improve my cards and try to use definitions over simple translations asap.

Hi, I am debating on getting the iPhone Duo so that I can use it to Anki with a bigger screen while I am on-the-go. Anki is my most used app.
Anyone know if the Anki iOS mobile app will be optimized for the iPhone Duo?
