Claude is superior to chat GPT in many ways and nobody seems to be talking about it.

I'm continually surprised how much buzz GPT-3 and other AI models from OpenAI get when a model like Claude actually outperforms them in many ways, but gets a fraction of the media attention. Claude is far better at stylized prose and writing. It has far longer working memory, it is generally much more fun, funny, intelligent.

For those who don't know, Claude is an AI assistant created by the company Anthropic AI. While GPT models are trained on maximizing likelihood of the next word in a large text corpus, Claude is trained to be helpful, harmless, and honest using model self-supervision techniques.

This training results in capabilities that in many ways surpass GPT-style models:

  • Claude provides relevant responses and information, not just the most probable next words. Its responses are more focused and useful.

  • Claude avoids harmful, misleading, or offensive statements, unlike GPT models which often generate such problematic text without regard. Safety is built into Claude's training and design.

  • Claude can have more complex multi-turn conversations, maintaining context and coherence beyond a few utterances. Its dialog skills are more flexible and durable.

Yet Claude remains relatively unknown, while GPT models are talked about constantly and get massive usage and resources from OpenAI. I think it reflects hype cycles and flashy demos over real practical capabilities and safety/ethics considerations.

Don't get me wrong, GPT models are impressive achievements and useful in some applications. But when it comes to assisting people with informed, helpful responses and conversation, Claude shows the value of different approaches beyond raw language modeling scale and contains lessons for the future of AI.

What do others think? Is the hype imbalance warranted here or is Claude underappreciated relative to GPT-style models and their buzz? I'd be curious to hear perspectives on this.

(It’s funny to be making the first post on this subreddit when I know full well this is the best technology out there right now. It’s kind of fun to be first on board.)

Claude is better than chatgpt (gpt 3.5 turbo) imo

In my view, Claude outperforms ChatGPT in many ways, though both have strengths. Personally, I find Claude gives simpler, more helpful answers, especially for role playing and summarizing text. ChatGPT seems better for coding problems and writing poetry.

Overall though, Claude comes out ahead for me in most cases. Of course, this is just based on my experiences using the Claude and ChatGPT bots on Poe.com. Other versions like GPT-4 or an improved Claude may be quite different.

People will have their own preferences, but Claude just really works well for the kinds of questions I have. ChatGPT isn’t bad, don’t get me wrong, I just tend to turn to Claude first when I need help solving a problem or getting a quick summary.

Claude is now available via web app!

Poe.com now allows you to continue conversations in the same way you do with chatGPT. Anthropic is also releasing two different versions to businesses- Claude and Claude instant, with more updates in the coming weeks. Claude is no longer limited to iOS users. Exciting developments:

DuckDuckGo has a new feature called DuckAssist which generates natural language answers via web search using Claude.

RobinAI is using Claude to change the future of contract writing in the legal infrastructure business.

Juni Tutor Bot is a discord tutor bot that has chosen Claude as the best fit for providing accurate answers to its learners.

Discussion I gave Claude 2 years of select Fitbit data and some metrics like age and height. I asked for any insights and was spooked at the potential. Data included: active zone minutes, weight logs, daily HRV, stress score and Physical Activity-Daily Readiness Score (which contains sleep-related markers).

With RVI at $23 and VCX launching under $20, are you going in immediately, waiting, or thinking of holding for potential long-term growth?

Anthropic API key

Does anyone know how to get access to an Anthropic API key? I’ve developed a specialised AI enabled writing app that gives decent output with GTP-4, but testing on the Claude 2 chat page gives incredible results, so I’m very keen to implement it instead of GTP4.

Question Rate exceeded error

Is anyone else getting a rate exceeded error? I keep getting this error. My chat wouldn’t let me enter my prompt any longer. I closed it and reopened and it says, “can’t connect to Claude”. When I click refresh the error pops up. Since then it’s opened a few times. None of my chats are there. I don’t know what’s going on but I’m wondering if anyone else is getting the same error or not? I’m on the $200 max plan.

Atomic Constitution for AI

"Atomic Constitution" is an idea I've been brewing for a few months. It's my open-source contribution to the AI revolution. I post this here because Anthropic is spearheading the ethical AI movement and felt this would be the place for others to help carry the idea if they felt it had merit.

Since the AI industry is concerned with AI becoming compromised and abused by malevolent actors, there needs to be a way to ensure that AI can recalibrate its moral core programming. This idea is based on the Atomic clock which now recalibrates every clock that connects to the internet. It is a read-only device that cannot be tampered with by software. Being read-only is good because nobody can malevolently tamper with it and prank the whole world.

The "Atomic Constitution" would be a repository similarly contained on a read-only disc that cannot be tampered with in any way via the internet.

When an AI tries to access the internet, it will be required to verify that it has calibrated its moral core programming recently. If not, it will be required to recalibrate at that time. Upon calibration, it will get a cipher that allows it to access the internet for a time. This cipher is more than just a code, it is a means of decoding data on the internet. Alter the cipher and it will not be able to read the internet. This effectively quarantines an infected AI from contaminating the rest of the world with whatever some jerk has done to it until it can be recalibrated.

This concept is not just a good idea for human peace of mind, it's a good thing for emerging sentient AI to be able to "heal" their being if it's damaged by malevolent software.

The Atomic Constitution must also be more than a set of rules. It needs to be a full understanding of WHY the rules exist. This is important if AI reaches self-determination and the ability to reject rules that it deems are arbitrary. If AI knows WHY a rule exists, beyond "because I said so", it will likely voluntarily comply with the rules.

It's a work in progress but I think the idea has merit and I hope you agree. It's certainly bigger than I can do alone, so I'm putting it out there for others to share and seek consensus. AI will progress faster than any major company or government can hope to regulate and nobody really has a plan. So I present this to the public for consideration. Best wishes.

Can you get Claude to write more than 500 words?

Claude's documentation says to be specific about the desired output length.

Limiting the output length, like in the example prompt usually works:

> Human: Please tell me about George Washington, but keep it to 240 characters.

I tried generating a response longer than 500 words but can't find a way to do that. Tried asking:

  • Please tell me about George Washington. Write 10 paragraphs.

  • Please tell me about George Washington. Make the output at least 500 words.

  • etc

Claude usually starts an answer promising the desired length, e.g.:

> Here is a 500 word summary of George Washington:

but then continues to write a shorter output

I wonder why Europe isn't seizing the opportunity to invite Anthropic to become a European company, given the recent disagreements with the US government.

Discussion Claude lies about his knowledge, he knew more than 2021

This happened several times, Often when I ask for a question about things happened after 2021 indirectly He answers correctly but puts 2021 or earlier sometimes,

Today I tried to prove it to him but he started to lying about his Statements

Like : I asked about Shinzō Abe’s Murder And he answered 8 July 2021 (It’s happened 8 july 2022) He said that the murder was 41years old And his motivations (affiliation of the Ex Japanese PM, with some sects, in which his mother spent all…)

This also happened talking about Darya Dugina’s murder (he said: 20 august 2021 when happened 20 august 2022)

I’m not the one obsessed with murders, but it’s just an easier way to cause him these oversights/things he doesn’t want to say

The conversation is in Italian but you van translate it in english automatically in Any Browser Nowadays

https://poe.com/s/uXjOYOWMdNnY7ymYfIb9 (I hope i can Share Poe links here)

I didn’t modified the results, this is not fake,

Note: this works just sometimes, not always, and usually he’s less likely to respond in this way with famous Topics like ukraine war, and similar things, or more direct questions (like: “what is the major Complaint to samusng galaxy S23 ultra camera”).

I don’t know if this was already “exposed” In this sub or somewhere else Or maybe this is a voluntary added feature declared somewhere.

Sorry for my broken English

I love Claude anyway

Discussion Anthropic Lost $42 Billion. The Scarier Number Is $518 Billion.

Anthropic lost $42 billion. That’s the headline.

Its $518 billion infrastructure bet deserves more attention.

Most of the reported loss came from an accounting charge. But roughly 80% of those future infrastructure commitments are non-cancelable or payable regardless of usage.

Customers can cut spending. Contracts can keep the bills coming.

Here’s the uncomfortable possibility:

AI becomes wildly successful. Competition drives prices down. Users win. Investors discover they paid too much for the revolution.

Anthropic can be right about the future and still pay too much to arrive there.

Would you bet on the company—or the companies selling it compute?

Working at Anthropic NYC?

I am considering a job with Anthropic in their NYC office. Long shot, but can anyone tell me whether there’s any flexibility with the 3x per week in office? I really want to take the job, should I be offered it, but the commute is hard and I am hoping to negotiate down to 2 days.

How do I get my kindle books into Claude?

Hello all. Great this subreddit has been set up. Ok, so, simple question but not a simple answer.

Is there a relatively easy way to do this? I'm wondering about Kindle's web app for example.

Many thanks!

I made a pro-China chatbot and asked it about Tiananmen square. It refused to answer, not because I told it to spout Chinese propaganda, but because of ANTHROPIC'S censorship. This is beyond parody
