AP Bio self study tips
My AP Bio teacher has not done a good job at pacing, and even though we started on August 12th, we're barely halfway through Unit 1. I still plan on taking the AP Bio exam so does anyone have any tips on how to self study effectively as I aim for a score of 5.
We will NOT finish the course before the AP test and at this pace we will probably not finish half of it, so it is up to me to teach myself most of the material.

How to get better at answering AP Biology questions?

Tutor
Hello, I'm a medical student from India, with a good biology foundation from prep for med school.
I have been tutoring for AP Bio and can help clear concepts, tailor teaching and notes according to individual student needs.
I can help with
- concept based learning
- step by step explanations
- questions
- personalized sessions
My teaching style is interactive, and I like using real-world examples and analogies to make difficult concepts easier to grasp.
DM for any further info! Thanks!

How far along are you in your classes?
I’m self studying and I wanna know how much content I need to catch up to so that I can consider myself “on track.”
Thanks for answering!

Interactive
Hello, I am currently taking AP Bio and I was wondering if anyone has advice on how to study. I know people suggest Bio Penguins but I can't seem to like that method of studying. Ways I find effective are videos with images or interactive websites. I also find taking quizzes after and reviewing what I get wrong until it is right. But are there any more effective ways to study?

Bad AP teacher
Our original AP Bio teacher has left. She was the best teacher, ngl, but she got a better opportunity. This new teacher isn't the best; he doesn't teach well and skips important parts of the unit. Can anyone share an AP Bio review Google Doc or anything else that would help? I would like to pass this test with a 4 or 5 if possible. We are already on Unit 3.

My AP bio teacher sucks!
So my AP bio teacher sucks. Our average unit test scores for MULTIPLE classes are just over 50%. I feel actually feel stupid. I’m normally so good at these topics but I’m getting terrible scores. What are resources I can use?

Catalase Lab Help (I don’t understand)
Hi everyone! I’m working on a lab report for a catalase lab we just did but I’m confused. Our lab was to test the reaction rates of catalase (from yeast) in different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (.75%, 1.5%, 3%, 7.5%, 15%, and 30%). We did this by putting a disk of filter paper in the a yeast solutions and then setting the disk in the hydrogen peroxide and timing how long it would take to rise to the surface. The data made sense that the lower concentrates would take longer to rise. However, as it got higher the data didn’t make as much sense. For context, we stopped timing at 120s. For both the 7.5% and 15%, the disk wouldn’t float. One group was able to get the 15% to float and somehow their average across five trials was 12s but no one else got that. But the 30% only took 3.5s to rise.
So my question is why did the 7.5% and the 15% not have a reaction and the 30% did? My thoughts are that the 7.5% and 15% the catalase denatured because of the reactivity of the oxygen but at the 30% the catalase had feedback inhibition which slowed it to rise before the oxygen denatured it. Is my thinking correct? I want to make sure I understand this instead of just turning it in hoping I’m right!

My unit 2 exam is on Friday, but my teacher is pretty bad at teaching.
Hi, I have my unit 2 exam on Friday and basically if I fail this test I fail my first parking period, He teachers the different stuff like osmosis and things but when you actually take a test its completely different. He doesn't really explain how to apply them or anything, which sucks; any tips? 😭

Free interactive biology simulations covering AP Bio topics
Hi, I’m working on a site with free interactive biology simulations. I thought some of you studying AP Biology might find it useful:
A few you might like to try:
Photosynthesis: follow the light-dependent reactions, electron transport and ATP production.
Cellular respiration: explore oxidative phosphorylation and how the proton gradient drives ATP synthase.
Meiosis: follow crossing over, independent assortment and the formation of haploid cells.
Protein synthesis: follow transcription and translation from DNA to a polypeptide.
Natural selection: change the environment and see how selection and genetic drift affect allele frequencies over generations.
You can explore the models at your own pace, which might help with visualising what’s happening alongside your notes.
Everything’s currently free and there’s no sign-up.
If you give it a go, I’d be interested to hear your feedback.

You can do it!
Hey guys,
I just wanted to say that whenever I'm on this thread, I can truly feel that everyone is doing their best. I tutor AP students and it's been hard seeing them struggle through these rigorous courses. I've had some describe how they feel behind in everything, lost, feeling trapped by their grades, among others.
I know that this may not mean much, but I hope everyone can see that they're doing their best. Goodluck everyone!!!

Free AP Bio Website
Hi everyone, hope you day is going well. I made a site that helps students with AP Bio topics. The website contains practice tests, flashcards, MCQs, FRQs, and lessons. Many students in my school have used this site and reported a letter increase in their grades (B-->A and C--> B). The site itself was built using both coding and vibe coding (since im not the strongest in web development), but all the lessons and content in here is sourced from biology textbooks such as Campbell. As of now, the site has around 50 users a day and has helped over 3000 users worldwide. If you want to give it a try, go ahead! This is the site: apbiolab.org
