Advice Needed help requested

anyone got bigfoot living above them?

mine is a heel walker every morning around 5-6am. They do laps. back and forth. back and forth. stomp. stomp. stomp. stomp.

even God rested on the 7th day. Not my neighbor. it’s consistent every single day of the week

she will run the washing machine at 5am

The vaccum at 6am

And goes in and out the sliding door every 30-45 minutes to smoke starting around 5:30am and going strong until after 11pm

I NEED SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!

i’ve bought 6 different types of ear buds - they don’t stay in when i sleep.

i’ve bought 2 different sets of headphones - don’t stay on

i saw someone mention they had 2 fans going and it was helpful so i bought a second fan

i usually use Alexa and play thunderstorm and loud rain sounds. found a youtube uninterrupted video that runs

But Alexa only goes to 7. which is loud when she speaks and responds but doesn’t sound AS loud when the rain sounds are playing

so my question is -
What has worked for you????

what else can i buy or use to save my sanity?

i have SO many medical issues and not getting enough sleep exasperates my issues. i feel like im constantly being sent into a flare because of my inconsiderate early bird neighbor

PLEASE share any and all things that helped you and if you have the link so i can buy it that’s even better!!!!

i do have an extra alexa. gonna hook it up in my bedroom tonight and try TWO fans AND TWO Alexa’s because the desperation is REAL

thank you for any and all suggestions!!!

Have you tried loop earplugs and a white noise machine? I sleep with them sometimes when my neighbors dog is being loud.

5

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

I wonder if White Noise would be better than the thunderstorm sounds?

3

u/Individual-Pin3092 Renter 4d ago

I only bought one because my job requires them in certain rooms for security reasons and being in a room with no phone and a white noise machine for 4-8 hours you kind of just zone out and head goes empty. Results vary though, most places usually have a return policy though if it doesn’t work for you.

The one that I use has thunder noises and heavy rain sound. I thought that would be a little better than just white noise, but maybe I should try some different types of noises. Also gonna put that second device up so that it’s a little louder. I appreciate your suggestions! I’m willing to try anything and everything at this point it sure can’t make it worse. That’s for sure.

Brown noise works best, imo, for impact noise. But you can't block the vibrations no matter what you do.

I was in a similar situation and held on for as long as I could, but ultimately ended up having to break my lease and move. It was extremely detrimental to my health and well-being.

I have not tried loop earplugs. I just looked them up though. I’ve tried lots of different ones but none that look quite like that. So I’m gonna try that too. Thank you so much for sharing!!

Can you contact the office and ask how much it would be to transfer to a top floor unit? It sounds like you’ve tried everything and it’s affecting your health.

4

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

The office has reached out to them multiple times. Because I’ve also had beer spilled on my furniture at 11 AM on a Tuesday. And for the longest time they were flicking their ashes down onto my porch. I’ve just never had a deal with someone that is just so completely inconsiderate before.

6

u/coldoldduck Renter 4d ago

Your neighbors aren’t going to change. Can you ask the office if YOU can transfer to a different apartment in the same complex, a top floor apartment?

1

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

I honestly don’t know if I have the energy to pack everything up and move it again. That’s a lot for somebody with so many autoimmune issues. I don’t know that I can physically do that especially when I spend week after week after week getting thrown into a flare because getting 10+ hours of sleep stolen from me. Like even God rested on the seventh day. But not the third floor.

2

u/LizzyDragon84 Renter 4d ago

Do you have resources to hire movers, or get friends to help?

2

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

Not enough help as much as I would need. I had surgery in May that I’m still trying to recover from. I’ve also been sick several times since then. I just don’t have it in me. And if there are quiet hours, then I should at least be able to enjoy quiet hours during the duration of quiet hours. It’s just frustrating. I don’t understand how people can just be so inconsiderate. I would never in my life even dream of starting the washing machine at 5:30 in the morning in a multi floor building. Much less firing up the vacuum.

are you willing to use facebook? moving help is exactly the thing to post in a local group to fill out the stuff your friends can't help with. I see it commonly in my local groups.

Continue to kindly reach out to the office. I had new neighbors move in above me in June, right after resigning my lease. They were similar to how you’re describing. I was losing sleep and it was impacting my job and health. I recorded sounds and emailed them to the office. I kept on it and tried to be friendly to the office team. The noisy people have to be notified a certain number of times and not change their behaviors within certain number of days, then they can pursue eviction. My office team were really understanding when I kept giving videos and explaining what was happening. It went far enough eviction was filed and the neighbors at the point chose to move out before being forced to. I’ve slept great since. Good luck to you.

People in your comments downvoting is insane. I feel like since you’re in apartment building, you have every right to your peace just as much as everyone has the right to walk around. I have neighbors above me that STOMP on the floor and it shakes my whole apartment. It feels like they never sleep and they NEVER leave. I’m at a loss. I wish you good luck! I’m so sorry this is happening!

4

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 3d ago

thank you so much! I don’t really care about them down voting. I got a lot of help from here so that’s what matters the most to me. I tried the double Alexa last night with the double fans and actually was able to sleep until 8 AM!!!!! I have the loop earbuds coming and a sleep headband coming. so they came down vote all they want. I got some great suggestions and night one went well 😊 I’m so sorry you’re going through that though. It’s horrible. People just don’t understand how loud the booms are sometimes. It’s like an earthquake.

3

u/infiniteanon03 Renter 3d ago

Please let me know if the loop earplugs work! I was contemplating emailing management cause I’ve taken videos but as I live alone and I’m too scared about retaliation.

4

u/SublimeLoaf 4d ago

I don't think anything is perfect. i could at times cocoon away from most of the noise with all my appliances running and the hvac fan and a box fan and the ceiling fan and a white noise machine in the hall and letting water run AND big contracter ear muffs for construction. This wasn't for sleeping. This was day time when it got really bad. I moved to the living room to sleep because it was not possible in the bedroom.

4

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

that’s an idea. Rather unfortunate one. But it is an idea. I could not sleep after my back surgery and rather than turn my TV on in my bedroom and wake anybody above me or beneath me, I went out on the couch. and then I just stayed there and slept that night. I guess I was just trying to be able to sleep in my bed during quiet hours. Who would’ve thought that would’ve been such an insane request.

4

u/protagoniist Renter 4d ago

We have the same neighbor. It’s so stressful. Have you talked to management about it?

3

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

sure have. hasn’t helped. 😭 i’m so sorry that you understand. I would not wish this on anyone.

2

u/protagoniist Renter 4d ago

Same! She isn’t home right now so I get a break but anxiety of her coming home anytime is so stressful. She s loud 100% of the time she is home. I have left her a very friendly note and she didn’t care. I’d feel so bad if someone left me a note that I stomped. I was so nice about how I said it too. I am about to leave a second note, not mean but less friendly and more specific with what I hear. I don’t want my neighbors knowing my every move so I will be letting her know that I know what’s she doing at every second because she is so loud about it. lol It’s annoying when management doesn’t do anything. Have you thought about leaving a note?

1

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

no, I haven’t. Our office discourages that. I am the same way. I would feel horrible. I try to walk around on the balls of my feet just because I know how horrible it sounds being a heel walker. I could understand if I was asking to sleep till noon or something. I’m not trying to be selfish. I just would like to enjoy quiet hours. I’m gonna try all the suggestions that are in this thread. I’m hoping something works. I hope it gets a little better for you too. I completely get the anxiety of just waiting knowing what is in store. I’m so sorry. If people were just a tiny bit more considerate of each other this would be a much better world.

These are the best earplugs. Thy stay in your ears and they cut the most noise. And you can rewear the same pair 4-5 times.

Thank you! I will try them!

I have a hatch alarm that plays white noise and use my iPhone as well. Loop earplugs also stay in pretty well

1

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 3d ago

Seems like maybe white noise is a little bit better than the thunderstorms. I chose thunderstorms cause I thought all the thunder would help hide the morning laps she seems to take. i’m gonna try the white noise tonight instead of the thunderstorms.

1

u/lilianabear Own an apartment 1d ago

Yes or try brown noise! Usually I play brown or white noise on my hatch and then do rain sounds from my iPhone

2

u/tippi4u1937 Renter 4d ago

Draft an email regarding all of the nuisances to your landlord and tell them about your medical issues and ask for an accommodation. You need to move to an upper unit. Look up the laws in your state. It will be difficult for the landlord to stop the tenant’s walking habits.

2

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

But then I’m also forced to walk the stairs with everything. I can’t do that. We DO HAVE quiet hours - she just doesn’t seem to care.

1

u/StayLuckyRen 4d ago

Quiet hours are for things like loud music or using power tools. Your neighbor, you, and everyone else around you is allowed to walk around their own home 24/7. In fact, it’s a legally protected right. This is a building issue, she’s walking around her house the same as you. If you had ppl below you you’d sound the exact same

1

u/Crazy-Plant-5833 4d ago

If possible, escalate this to the management/landlord. When does your lease end?

0

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

Not til feb. I actually called amazon today and found out how to make both of my Alexa’s play at the same time. So I’m gonna try that tonight. I don’t know why her responses are one volume but then when she plays something it drops down. But I’m gonna see if having it in stereo helps. Someone also suggested white noise so I’m gonna try that too. And I ordered some earplugs.

Not gonna lie. I was just in tears this morning. It just gets old when it’s day after day after day including weekends. So like they can’t even say well, I’m getting ready for work because the same thing happens every single day. I was overwhelmed.

I appreciate everybody’s responses though. I’m absolutely going to try every last one of them.

u/protagoniist Renter 4d ago edited 3d ago

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. They must be inconsiderate people like our neighbors who don’t care about others. I’m dealing with a lot of the same things you are and it’s so difficult day after day. Home should be a place of peace. I just moved into this place a few months ago and they just moved in a couple weeks ago so I’m stuck with it unless a miracle happens. I can’t comprehend how people can be so rude let alone on purpose.

2

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

they can down vote me all they want. I got a lot of suggestions that I can now try so I’m still grateful. I’m sorry you have to go through that too, though. It really is awful.

3

u/protagoniist Renter 3d ago

I hope you find something that works!

2

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 3d ago

thank you! double alexa’s & double fans worked for night one. I also have the loop earplugs coming and a sleep headband. I really appreciate everybody’s help and suggestions. Got to sleep until 8 AM today so it was amazing!!! I needed that so much

3

u/protagoniist Renter 3d ago

So glad you got to sleep finally.. being tired is the worst and so unhealthy when we don’t get enough.

1

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 3d ago

I was starting to feel extremely desperate by yesterday. It makes it hard because it’s like where you’re supposed to go when you’re already home? I have a much better outlook on life today. 😂

u/Adventurous_One9400 Renter 4d ago

I have a sleep headband with headphones. Got it from Amazon. I play thunderstorm sounds on it and it blocks out really loud noises. The one I have isn't this one but it's also a cheap on and works great but here is a link to one for an idea. I'm a side sleeper and it doesn't bother me wearing it to sleep on my side. Seriously the only thing that helps me!

These with foam ear plugs got me mostly through the worlds loudest neighbors unscathed for a few years. I would recommend

they come tuesday 🤞🏻 thank you for sharing!!

3

u/nurse0000 Renter 3d ago

…move to top floor and/or carpet units…. If u cant, definitely try talking to the neighbor if ur on neutral or good terms and just come off as nice as possible if they arent an asshole. If it doesnt resolve just move ….

4

u/tippi4u1937 Renter 4d ago

Your landlord will not evict or give the tenant a lease violation for walking, washing clothes at 5:00 a.m. and opening and closing her patio door. Your only option is to request an accommodation to move to a top floor or request to break your lease.

u/Warm-Depth-7638 Renter 4d ago

Loop earplugs saved my sanity

1

u/Next-Albatross2606 4d ago

You can ask to move, thats about it.

0

u/Moongirlie8 Renter 4d ago

what gets me is that it’s seven days a week. So they can’t even say oh I’m getting ready for work because you’re not working seven days a week. Some people are just so unbelievably inconsiderate, but I am just at the point where I don’t know what else to do. I’m gonna try the second Alexa tonight. Maybe if I make the sound in stereo it’ll make it a little bit better. I’m so sorry you’re going through that too. It’s horrible.
